Muted Sounds - Everything  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: r12
by: sp00n [More]

******
I don't play anymore, you should check out this addon instead:
http://www.wowinterface.com/download...alversion.html
******

Updated for 4.3.4

This file removes all sound files from the game so that you can clearly hear your addon sounds.
It affects all* sound files in game so you won't hear things like UI clicks or ready checks or boss speeches anymore. Addons that play their own sound files sill work though.

If you only want muted combat sound, check out the other file here.

Installation:
Extract the .rar into /Data directly so that you have a /Data/Sound directory.

* Note:
It doesn't affect music. Music can be disabled in game.

This mod was inspired by silverwind's Bossmod Sound Fix (while game is muted). It does however not rely on files with zero byte content but on "real" muted valid sound files (ogg and wav). The zero byte sound files gave me problems while playing addon sounds, where half of them just didn't play.
I don't have this problem with valid files.

Thanks you for your job.

Some sounds would be nice to keep, such as BG-invite(if you want to keep them, then delete or rename the following files from wow\Data\...)

You are invited to the group:
Sound \ INTERFACE \ iPlayerInviteA.ogg
Sound \ INTERFACE \ iplayerinvitea.wav

Whisp to you:
Sound \ INTERFACE \ iTellMessage.ogg
Sound \ INTERFACE \ itellmessage.wav

ReadyCheck:
Sound \ INTERFACE \ ReadyCheck.ogg
Sound \ INTERFACE \ readycheck.wav

BG invitation:
Sound \ Spells \ PVPThroughQueue.ogg
Sound \ Spells \ pvpthroughqueue.wav

Could not find a sound for invitation to the dungeon, have an idea where it should be?

Not sure if I should add these back in - I mean, after all this is supposed to mute "all" sounds.

You could try the muted combat sounds version though, there you'll have all the other sounds still available but still perfect audability of your addon sounds.

hey, first of all thanks for this nice "addon". now to something different, the sounds of the new goblin mount called goblin turbo-trike, or goblin trike dont get muted with the version r2. would be nice if you can find the file names.

keep up the good work

Cataclysm sound files are not included 100% - I wasn't able to open SoundCache-3.MPQ and get a list of the files there. And I guess I won't be able to do so until Cata hits (and then I'll be busy leveling first).

@Squiddy0
Yeah, you'd have to open up one of the .mpq files (sorry, don't know which one of those it is right now), find the packed SoundEntries.dbc file there, extract it, convert it to an .csv file and look for the spells you'd want not to be muted.
Then delete these files from the /Sound directory so that they're played from the .mpq files instead the muted files.

If you're lucky you'll be able to identify the sound files, it's quite a mess sometimes with double and triple used sounds for different spells/abilities.

hehe my bad I didn't even consider that idle electrical sound was for something else as well ... it's no big deal I did get the spectral worg sound for him at least, regardless it's a nice addition to have most of the sounds gone, I really like it

Did you stop updating this for Cata? Still many sounds play, most from Cata player abilities, goblin trikes, etc.

Was really hoping blizzard would have fixed this by now

Thank, but I've meanwhile solved the issue. Ladik's beta version did the job just fine.

If i wanted to hear all the boss speech, would i just go into:

WoW > Data > Sound > Creature > Boss Name

And delete the new sound files this addon put in there? Or is there more to it than that?

You basically delete all files in the folder you mentioned that are not named *attack or *wound.
That should work most of the time, however sometimes you'll find certain spells/abilities that are named differently in that folder and aren't speech/event files. Then you can either delete them anyway if you don't really care, or check whether it's worth keeping the sound file by playing the original, unmuted sound file (either by having it extracted or using the PlaySoundFile() API command (of course you shouldn't use this when you're already having muted sounds - it would play only silence).

That being said, the "muted - combat only" pack aims for exactly that: no sound played during combat while still maintaining boss speeches/events/special emotes/whatever. There'll be some other sounds as well (footsteps, the enchanting sound ("pling"), other tradeskill sounds, eating, etc), but that's not really a game breaker (at least for me), since it was the combat sounds that gave me headaches. And those'll be removed.

It's not 100% ready yet though.
