WoW Crap Cleaner  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: Beta 1.6
by: Sjubi [More]

WoW Crap Cleaner

What is WoW Crap Cleaner?

WoW Crap Cleaner is a tool to clean your World of Warcraft directory. The program scans your AddOn directory and WTF directory and then shows the results in a few tabs.

Which files is WoW Crap Cleaner looking for?

WoW Crap Cleaner looks for your installed AddOns, *.lua files, *lua.bak files and SavedVariable.lua and shows it all in organized tabs.

WoW Crap Cleaner has a tab for unofficial Blizzard AddOns, a tab for Blizzard AddOns, a tab for SavedVariable.lua files and a tab for *lua.bak files.

Why should I use WoW Crap Cleaner?

You should use WoW Crap Cleaner if you want to scan for settings that are left over by deleted AddOns, if you want to reset a Blizzard AddOn by deleting the setting of that specific AddOn, if you want to delete a specific SavedVariable.lua or want to remove all *lua.bak files.

IMPORTANT: Before doing anything with my program, make sure you backup your directory first. My program has a neat little button that automatically creates a backup of your Interface and WTF directory with the date of the backup. Use my program at your own risk!

Comments and suggestions are appreciated!

Beta 1.6
I got back to the game after a break and decided to check if my program still works since I had a lot of leftover settings after a year or so with installing and removing AddOns.

I just tested it and it still works. I do recommend to do a manual backup first (always be safe!) but after that, the program is still safe to use and it clears leftover AddOn settings like it always did.

It does not display any data in the upper table of "Blizzard AddOns" since Blizzard doesn't show those there anymore so that table will remain empty.

I tested it on Windows 10 x64 edition on the latest Windows Insider Preview.

I would like to recreate the program (lost the source) but have not programmed in years so I need to re-learn programming again.

Beta 1.6
*Re-uploaded to confirm that it still works with WoW patch 3.3.5

Beta 1.5
*Changed the program layout once more. Should be less buggy now and work correctly.
*Added program icon. Thanks Sparanoid!
*Changed some inner coding.
*Button "Create Backup" and "Search" are back! :).

Beta 1.4
*Added the ability to delete multiple items.
*Added the ability to resize the result windows.
*Added the ability to resize the program.
*Added menu item to reset the layout to defaults.
*Placed "Create Backup" and "Search" options into the "Tool" menu.

Beta 1.3
*Fixed four small typo's.
*Fixed the way how settings are saved. Pressing "OK" in options now saves the settings immediately instead of on program close, and pressing "Cancel" will actually revert to the old settings it had before changing it.

Beta 1.2
*Added copy file dialog when making a backup, to show the user detailed status information of the progress.
*After pressing search, or deleting a AddOn (which in turn also performs a search for leftover settings of that AddOn), the first item is selected in all of the lists (if there is at least one item in the list present).

Beta 1.1
*Added a few checks to prevent the program from crashing.
*Small tweaks to the layout.
*Added progress bar when deleting multiple items.

Beta 1.0
*Release.

Do people actually download this kind of stuff ? I mean , im not saying you are dishonest or anything , but i would never download and run an executable that says it's gonna do something to my wow-dir.

If i were a programmer i would probably not even invest any time in making something like this , cause i would think , noone is even gonna dare to download this so why bother.

Keep in mind that every executable that is uploaded to wow interface is picked appart clean before it is even approved. They wouldn't put up anything that is malicious.

I think this program is very helpful for compilation authors myself. I seem to forget to go through and delete the saved variables of other mods that arent include in my packages.

I'm not sure why.

I didn't programmed anything that has to do with the internet. What I do think it might be is, that in the application settings (by that I mean in Visual Studio) I set the option to check for Windows Installer 3.1 and Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5, and that if those are not installed it should download them from the official website.

That is the only thing I can think off.

And no, my program isn't a keylogger.

I understand what you mean. But wow interface curse and wowmatrix also has programs that work with the wow directory and that people use.

As long as you download a file from a trustworthy source, like wow interface, you can be sure it isn't anything malicious. that and as Elloria pointed it out, wow interface is picking it apart first before its placed here.

If they wow interface wants the source because they don't trust my application, hell I would give it to them.

Also, I created the program for myself in the first place. And then I decided to upload it as well, because there might be other people interested in it!

I actually went and downloaded this program and I must say it looks really promising.
Unfortunately it crashes when I try to make a backup, I work under vista so that might be the problem :P
Other then that it looks good. I'm someone that tries out a lot of add-ons so my saved variables get cluttered really fast with add-on files I don't even have anymore.

Did you set a backup directory in Tools > Options?

Can you give me the error message that you get, if you get one, when it happens?

I'll play around with the backup a little and see if I can get it to work wrong. :P

Edit: I checked on a Vista comp, and somehow, it takes longer then on my other system for the backup to complete. I tested on XP and Windows7, where the backup time was just "normal" but on Vista it took 3 times as long.

Did the program crashed with a error, or did you just see the progress bar at like 35% and then it staying like that?

If that is the case, give it some time. Seems the backup takes longer on Vista for a weird reason. (I blame bad coding on Vista's side :P).

i set the directory to just my d drive, maybe i should also set it to a specific folder?
And there is no error, it just goes to "program is not responding" and then I have to turn it off via task manager.

That is odd. I Just tested it myself as well, and I got a backup created just fine in C:\. Off course, windows did told me the program was not responding, but a few seconds after that, the program came to live again (windows thinks the program hangs, but in reality it is backing it up).

I assume that you gave the program some time before terminating it?

I did what you suggested and just left it "hanging" and indeed after 30 seconds or so it came to life again and made a perfect backup
I guess its just vista being moody

Good to hear.

I just uploaded a new version, which shows the copy file dialog when you press backup. Now you can see what the program is doing, eliminating the idea that my program has crashed!

Yep, this is correct. This program sat on hold in the download queue until either Dolby or Shirik had the time to decompile it and break it apart. We do that for all .exe files, whether new uploads or updates to existing projects on WoWInterface. Sometimes it means that an .exe is on hold for days.

This is a fantastic idea, not to mention the very simple automatic backup application built right in. A+
