NowCarrying monitors any stackable items you receive/are carrying.
When you gain/lose one-or-more of these it replaces the message
You receive [ITEM]xN
with
Now Carrying T [ITEM] (+/-N)
where N is the amount you've gained/lost
and T is the total you are carrying.

So instead of
"You receive [Knothide Leather]x2"
you would get something like
"Now Carrying 22 [Knothide Leather] (+2)"

Why do this?
Unlike the Blizzard message, which only appears on looting corpses or when crafting
NowCarrying gives a message when taking things from Mailboxes, Banks, Trading etc.

In fact ANY time your inventory changes!

So you're farming for a specific number of items and you can see how many you have
EVERY time you loot one - without having to open your bags.

When you use a spell/ability which requires reagents, you see how many reagents you
have left.

When you eat/drink/use potions/bandages etc., you see how many of these you have
remaining.

When you craft an item you see the remaining raw materials


FAQ

Q - I sometimes get the standard "You receive..." message for items which are stackable
A - Items which are not in your local itemcache are reported 'unstackable' until the server updates
The message may appear the first time you see a particular item - nothing I can do about that...

I think it is worth the effort frankly. I don't want to know how many Icy Spinnerets I've picked up off of spiders, but I might want to be informed of Iceweb Spider Silk that drops off those same mobs. I personally have been using FarmerFu since this isn't available in this mod, but I don't like having FuBar.

There are lots of exclusion/inclusion mods out there (SellFish, DropTheCheapestThing, FarmerFu), so it seems like it should be relatively simple to do this, and you could even just leave it command line. There would be no need to include a database, just allow others to add only what they are interested in tracking. Something like:

/nowcarry exclude ItemID
/nowcarry include ItemID

You could even reverse it by:

/nowcarry exlcludeall OR /nowcarry includenone
/nowcarry include ItemID

Then that would exclude all the items from the database (or clear them I guess) and then allow you to ONLY watch ItemID.

I think this would be much more intuitive and, frankly, useful than watching a million lines of chat spam or making another chat window just to hide this spam at. Granted, mod authors always develop the mods they want to use, but I just can't see that the amount of chat spam this generates is useful for anyone. So yes, IMO, I think it is well worth the effort and if I could program I'd give it a try myself. As it is, taking care of a house and a kid is a full-time job, so I'll leave it to those who know more than I to do the addons. =)

I fully realise that people are obsessed with having options for every combination or everything in every mod - but I'm just not going to stack a simple mod like this with 100 slash commands or a menu which will triple it's size and complexity...

You could hack it yourself and post a patch ofc. - if you're REALLY keen on the idea - but in all honesty is it really worth the effort?

As a hunter, any chance of getting it to ignore arrow count?. Although I realise that warriors and rogues may want ot know this.

On the debug messages - try downloading the zip when the re-upload is authorised (should be done by the time this message appears) - I'm working from my laptop here and it's ZIP utility is a bit screwy.

On the options - NC is such a simple mod I really don't want to triple it's size by putting in options.

I can't imagine why people would want to disable the 'receive' messages - and you only get 'reduced' inventory messages at vendors etc. so it's not really noticable spam...

Cash - I'd have thought 99% of people have their cash totals on-screen anyway??

The problem with blocking chat message seems to be fixed. Thank you! Though, there seem to be a few lingering things that look like debug messages. Specifically, if I loot something I already have 1 stack of, it prints ">>X" in the chat window, where X is the maximum stack size.

This is correct, I'm sorry if I was unclear. The major reason I want this option is to cut down on spam. I can see how this option would be useful, and I would probably use it if I didn't play a hunter. Since I don't use many reagents, anytime I'm losing an item, I'm usually well aware of that already, and don't need any reminders. It's not a very big deal, just a small suggestion.

As another suggestion for a potential feature (again, this is just a suggestion, not a demand), it would be great if this addon could also add how much money you have after you loot coins.

That doesn't make sense? You either gain an item or lose one - you can't do both at the same time!?!?

I'm GUESSING you mean an option 'dont show losses' or 'dont show gains' - and whilst I realise people who use addons are OBSESSED with having options - I can't think of a good reason why you'd EVER want to suppress those (aside from the hunter ammo issue we've addressed?)????

Meanwhile - I've uploaded a new version which uses the new Blizzard chatfilters (that they didn't bother telling they'd written) - being an addon writer is an endless walk through 'Guesswork Forest'

Feature suggestion and issues

I'd like to first say that this is an excellent idea for an addon. Unfortunately, I've come across a rather severe problem with it. When NowCarrying is enabled, it blocks all other chat messages from appearing. Nothing in guild, say, yell, general, trade, LookingForGroup, anything. Oddly enough, the combat log still works just fine.

I determined this by having no other addons loaded except "Ampere", "BugGrabber", "BugSack", and "NowCarrying". No messages appeared. Upon removing NowCarrying from that list, everything worked fine again.

Also, while I'm at it, I'd absolutely love it if there was an option for the addon to report values only on item gains or losses, and not both. If that's too much to ask, don't worry about it.

Thank you again for the addon, and I hope it gets fixed soon!

It seems they changed the way chat 'filtering' works in 3.0.2 or 3.0.3 - the latest (1.3) SHOULD work aok tho...
