Perl Classic Unit Frames  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 10.05
by: Global [More]

If you like this mod, please vote for it!

What is Perl Classic?
Perl Classic Unit Frames are a complete rewrite of the original mods by Perl. They replace the default Player, Pet, Target, Target of Target, Party, and Party Pet frames and add dedicated frames for many other units (Focus, Focus Target, Party Target, Target of Target of Target). It has been a high priority to maintain the look and feel or the original Perl mods while expanding functionality. The mod has been recoded for performance and is built around the Blizzard UI usage of events.

Q&A
-----

Q: I'm seeing double party buffs for some reason, what gives?
A: 99% of the time this is caused by CT_PartyBuffs. Simply remove the mod and you will return to having one set of party buffs.

Q: I am having massive dead spots for clicking on some of the unit frames, what's wrong?
A: This can be caused by a number of mods, but the most common seems to be CT_MovableParty. Please remove this mod as Perl can be moved without the use of this mod.

Q: The default party frames are showing up with red lightning bolts. What's going on?
A: As of version 1.503 of CT_RaidAssist this should no longer be caused by CTRA. The settings for this are now located in the WoW settings under Interface Options -> Basic -> Raid -> Hide Party Interface.

Q: Do you support ArcaneBar?
A: Yes, it is included in your download of Perl Classic.

Q: Will you be adding any features to Perl_PlayerBuff?
A: No, my coding for this mod goes as far as making sure it 'works.' If anyone would like to expand upon it, feel free to do so.

Q: Where are the raid frames?
A: As of 2.0 I no longer code raid frames for Perl Classic. Luckily, X-Perl's raid frames work great alongside Perl Classic. X-Perl's raid frames (and the unit frames themselves) can be found here: http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/3416/

Q: The scaling is all messed up! What do i do?
A: I recommend setting the scale to that of the UI if you are having issues. Open the options menu via "/perl" or the Black Pearl icon on the minimap and set the scale accordingly under the "All" tab.

Q: I am having an issue not listed in this FAQ, what can I do?
A: First, update *every* mod. I do not support ancient outdated and unmaintained mods. If you have double checked that everything is up to date, post on any of the Perl Classic mod pages and I'll be glad to help you narrow down the issue or give suggestions to help find a solution.

Q: Can you add this feature?
A: I'm sure it's possible, but the primary purpose of this mod is to 'modernize' the original Perl mod so that it doesn't slow your game down.

btw, you might want to add some new screenshots, not that good old aq40 isn't apealing but my first thought was "Yeah like that one is gonna be up to date"
I've been told that a few times over the years, but honestly, the mod looks identical to that still. The only thing that has changed is that I don't have 200+ mods loaded anymore

@Masticor: X-Perl still is and always will be more feature rich this Perl Classic. My code certainly has some very ugly portions, but for the most part, it should never cause and weird lag spikes. I went for the "use all the memory I'm going to need ever, at the start" rather than "use memory as I need it" approach. Both have their advantages and can be argued to the end of time. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter though.

What I've been telling people for the longest time now is, if you enjoy how X-Perl looks, use that. If you like how Perl Classic looks, use that. Personally, I don't need all of the extra fluff that X-Perl has, and anything I do need, I can find in Grid (not that I raid anymore).

With that said, Perl Classic isn't perfect either. It has a few outstanding bugs that I know about, but haven't had the time or desire to fix. But hey, they all have their work arounds that work though. So it's not a huge deal.

Anyway, choose the one that you like the looks of.

Ok I have a rather simple/stupid question:

I have been using X-Perl for a long time but I stoped using the Raidframes/Partyframes of X-Perl thx to other, better Addons.

But I still like the Player/Target/Pet/TargetofTarget Frames.

I do have everything I don't need turned off. Is it smarter to simply use Perl now isntead of X-Perl?

Could there be any Problems if I try out Perl, and go back to X-Perl? Any possibility of losing SavedVariables, Settings and simliar Stuff due to the similarity and Background of the two Addons?

How different is the Coding of Perl in comparison to X-Perl?

I am really tired of X-Perl to be honest, random lags, randomly rearanged Frames for Focus/Pet/TargetOfTarget, disapearing Balance Bar for Moonkins .... the List goes on and on and makes me feel every day like I am playing with a Dead Addon even if I update with Ace-Alpha Versions.

I don't like making "Is this better?"-Posts or Questions but who better to help me understand the diffrences then the Users and/or Author of this Addon.

Not too sure what to tell you. Simply relogging fixed the issue for the one player who reported it on the PTR. As for me, it works with or without mods on live. Without errors or a taint log or an XML error I'm not too sure where to even begin looking since I'm just moving the frame's anchor point to Perl.

It is not included with the mod since it is not coded by me anymore. The latest version of it can be found here: http://wow.curse.com/downloads/wow-a...ayer-buff.aspx

Any ideas?

You can cancel them through the default Blizzard buff system in the top right corner of the screen.

Hope you can help.
Perl Classic doesn't make any of the numeric timers display, just the dark circles. Personally, I use OmniCC for my buff timers.

Perl Classic doesn't handle or interfere with the inspection window. I'm not sure what mods there are that modify that window anymore since I don't use them. Maybe list what mods you are using and we can figure it out.

Some things are overlaping on the frames. Not sure what. Guild and somthing else maybe? I see it on NPC's too.
That is most likely the guild frame and the threat/rare mob frame. I'll see about fixing it for the next version.
