BucketBags

Version: 1-2.1.2
by: Astromech [More]

BucketBags is a bag replacement addon with a twist. It allows you to sort your items into "buckets" which can be shown and hidden at will.

Features:

  • Create unlimited buckets for your items.
  • Create, remove, reset, sort, and associate an icon to buckets easily with a click, drag-n-drop interface.
  • Replaces the bag and bank frames.
  • Character specific buckets and item placements.
  • Auto-sorting of items, alphabetically, within a bucket.
  • Customize the look of the frames with minimal lua knowledge.
  • Support for LibDataBroker using Cargor's LibCargoShip. If you don't have this, BucketBags will display your character's money instead.

Customization:
The backdrop, textures, and icon look can be customized in the settings.lua file with minimal lua knowledge. It's easy! All other settings can be done in game.
  • Drag an item onto a bucket icon to place the item into the bucket.
  • Click on the small plus icon on the sidebar to create a bucket.
  • If an item is inside a bucket already, dragging the item to the bucket icon will set that bucket's icon to the item's icon.
  • Clear a bucket of all items by right clicking on a bucket icon.
  • Sort the order of your bucket icons on the side bar by dragging them. Drop them in the place you would like them to appear.
  • Delete a bucket by holding ALT and right clicking on its icon. This will also clear all items from the bucket.
  • Finally, open and close a bucket by left clicking on its icon in the side bar.

More Information:
On initial install, BucketBags has two buckets: an empty bucket and a misc bucket. The empty bucket always contains all empty bag spaces. The misc bucket holds all items not inside any custom bucket. Create your own buckets to organize your items! Buckets are shared between your bags and bank, so you always know where to look for them.
The first icon on the side bar is a bag bar button. Click on it to see your currently equipped bags or bank slots. Mousing over these bag icons will cause any items not inside that bag to fade out, allowing you to easily tell if all your herbs are in your herb bag!
The side bar also functions as a bag space indicator. The bar will fill up as you run out of space. In addition, your free bag space is displayed at the bottom of the side bar.

This addon is based on Cargor's wonderful cargBags2 framework. It is embedded in BucketBags, so there is no reason to download a separate version (it will not even be detected by BucketBags).

Requests or Bugs?
I consider this addon feature complete. However, fell free to leave feature requests in the comments section. Please report bugs there as well. Thank you!

Hi Astromech,

sad to hear you quit.

I have just a few little things

* Named Bags would be extremely nice, so i can say here in this bucket is my T5 Set, and when I hover this bag in the "sidebar", a tool-tip appears and says "Tier 5" (or whatever I have named it)

* Remembering of the opened bags on logout

* Separate buckets for Bank and Inventory. I currently have 18 buckets, many of them only filled in the bank or the inventory only. (beside: by more buckets then the inventory height it would be nice if they wrap to a second line )

* reordering of the opened bag (either by keeping the order from the sidebar or by making the whole bucket "drag&drop"-able)

unfortunately I don't know enough about Addon Programming, so I don't know how much time this would need . It would be extremely nice if you could make some of this in the addon (especially the first two points )

@vexis58:

Mulgrew's suggestion is probably the problem!

@Mulgrew8472:

I'm glad you like it! I was actually in the middle of writing a big upgrade for this a few months ago, but since then I've stopped playing WoW. I'm not sure if I will pick the addon up again.

Still, I'd like to hear your ideas.

Wow searched for such an addon for years!

Do you still develop this addon? And if yes, do you take some little feature requests? Although your addon is the best inventory replacement I have found, I have some ideas which would be very nice to have

@vexis58 you have to bind "B" to "Toggle Backpack" not "Open All Bags"

(sorry for my english, it's not my native language)

I'm having issues with this bag not closing when I press B... It opens just fine with B, and I can close it with Escape, but it's going to be really annoying if I can't easily toggle my bags open and closed with the same key.

Am I just missing something?

Not without changing the code at the moment. I will look into adding this option when I can get to the big update I have planned.

Is there any way to get predefined definitions? Such as to put all herbs in one bucket without having to drag-n-drop each herb set into a bucket? Also is there a way to drag equipment sets from the gear manager into it's own bucket?

It may just be something that I neglected to read, and if so I apologize

And again, fantastic bag mod

EDIT: Typo
Thanks! I'm glad you like it

Predefined buckets won't be included in the BucketBags core, but I want to make them possible through a plugin system. At the moment you have to manually set up those "buckets."

Alrighty, will edit that to include a few more rows.

I like your idea for separate space counters. I assume you would want a count for each type of bag? Definitely something I will include.

Thanks for the feedback! [/b]
Yeah, sorry if i wasn't being clear. Being able to see what type of bag has x number of free slots would be awesome. Also (now that I'm re-reading my last point, was a bit vague) having it keep track of x number of items total in bag or bank would be nice(similar to ArkInventory or Bagnon), although if that's out of the scope of the addon, I don't mind, can always just grab part of bagnon to keep track of items there.

Will let you know about anything else should i find it.

I can't believe I overlooked the position issue! Yes, I will definitely fix that.

Edit: Found out how to move it.
Edit2: Found that if you move it, you can see the bags. Might want to position the bag and bank at first install or something a bit inward to the screen so they'll be able to change the bags.

As for feature requests, would it be possible to split the amount of free space depending on your bags? I know for sure that my regular bag space isn't 95 free slots atm :P Also something that would keep count of both bags and bank would be nice, but if not, I'm sure i can grab an addon for it else where.

Edit3: playing around with this more caused a certain bug when changing the size.

While the bank seems to keep the buckets within their frame, the bag has the buckets flowing out of it and doesn't modify the frame to accommodate all of the extra buckets.

Suggestions?

I haven't gotten as much feedback about this addon as I was expecting. I think it's partly because the settings' needing lua editing; so I'm planning on writing a real config window in the coming months.

Do any users have comments, feature requests, or bug reports? Please comment here because I will be taking a good look at the addon in the future.

Thanks! I'm glad you're liking it!

You can change those things and more in settings.lua (located in the addon folder). It's really pretty easy, so don't be intimidated by having to edit a lua file. Just open it in NotePad or something similar.

Specifically, to change the background color, edit line 16

Code:
settings.BackdropColor = {.3, .3, .3}
The values in the braces are just red/green/blue values ranging from 0 to 1, so you can change them to anything. To scale the buttons, you can change line 20

Code:
settings.ItemSize = 30
The value is the size in pixels. If you want it smaller, try a value around 20 and see how it looks.

The third screenshot is actually how BucketBags looks in my UI. It's done only through editing settings.lua. If you want a clear background, replace line 9

Code:
bgFile = "Interface\\Buttons\\WHITE8x8",
with this

Code:
bgFile = nil,
Hope this helps!
