CompactBars  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

CompactBars - General

CompactBars is an addon that is designed to create bars for nearly everything. The difference to the other bar addons is that it does not eat up your screen space. It displays the bars in a very compact way as you can see in the following screenshots.

Cooldowns:

Internal Cooldowns:

AOE (Hurricane):

Everything combined (has bossmods included):

Explanation: (starting with the bar next to the scale)

  • First bar: Shows the duration of buffs
  • Second bar: Shows the cooldowns
  • Third bar: Shows bossmods
  • Bars that come after the first three: Show negative effects on different targets
It is possible to display the following things:
  • DoTs
  • Debuffs
  • CCs
  • Short buffs (short means that it is not designed for things like Power Word: F.)
  • Cooldowns
  • Internal cooldowns (like Eclipse or from items)
  • Bossmods (needs BigWigs or Deadly Bossmods (the first one is the better option because it uses icons for nearly every bar!)
DoTs
The addon is able to display dots from multiple targets. This means that is able to show a bar for rain of fire on every target!

What is so special?
You may ask yourself why you should choose this addon over another bar addon. A few points which are different to other bar addons:
  • You are able to compare everything with only a short look at the bars, because they all use the same size for one second.
  • Time your abilities exactly to match boss abilities.
  • Easily compare your cooldowns with your buffs.
  • Uses very little space on your screen (only one bar per target and a maximum of three bars for yourself).
  • Possibility to use a logarithmic scale and a normal scale (if you don't know what a logarithmic scale is you can find a good description here.)
  • Vertical bars are possible!
Vertical bars:

IMPORTANT NOTE
The addon does NOT use a logarithmic scale by default (because of a user request) but it has now nearly [b]EVERY spell[\B] included. So for example the deathknight has Army of the Dead which has a 20 minute cooldown. If the addon uses the default value it will create very very long bar! So go in the options to the logartihmic scale option and type in the time of your longtest spell.
You can also split it up in more segments and type 100, 200 (if you want to add 300 seconds at the end of the bar).
You can find a tutorial here!

rc8_1
- all classes work again
rc8
- it is now possible to refresh dots from targets that are not targeted
- THIS DOES ONLY WORK WHEN YOU HAVE THE 3.1 CLIENT!
rc7_2
- added a nil check
rc7_1
- forgot the config changes in the last update
rc7
- added custom markers
rc6
- added a changing alpha value when the bars overlap so that you always know if there is something under a bar
rc5_4
- forget a few debug messages :/
rc5_4
- scale can be hidden all the time now
rc5_3
- fix for dots that are not included in the default config
rc5_2
- forget a change in _1 <.<
rc5_1
- more frame updates to avoid overlapping
rc5
- can show ticks of dots now
rc4_2
- sorting updated (next patch will have new features again ;))
- added zhCN, zhTW localization. Thanks goes to rpggo for creating them!
rc4_1
- updated bar lib missing
rc4
- fixed some bugs with the sorting of bars
rc3
- bars are now resorted on creation of a new bar (you can change the sorting in the options)
- priest class added to the spell dialogs
- scorpid sting changed to use a dynamic approach instead of the static one (don't think that there is a way to spread this without having a target)

Looks like it has alot of potential but a /wave at ForteWarlock would be nice,
since that's the first mod (that I know) with compact bars utilizing a logarithmic scale,
and it's been around for ages.

Personally I liked the name Dotit better. I can see why you changed it but I preferred it when it was just dots and such. Still I'll give it a try.

Edit: Can I make a request to be able to change the order of the bars so say like dots are always on the bottom and bossmods are always on the top.

Thats true but it was not really my inspiration as this addon did start with the idea that came from http://elitistjerks.com/f32/t39672-i...imer_bar_mods/ . And I really don't see so many similarities between my addon and ForteWarlock and logartithmic scales are something which was used long before wow was created .

You can disable everything you don't need. Changing the order is possible but it is not so important for me yet as I personally think that static things should not swap positions because you are able to follow these bars easier if they have a fixed position.

I've been tinkering with it today and I have to say I like it now that I've figured out the whole logarithmic scale thing. One thing I am having trouble with though is getting the profiles to work. I can't seem to load a profile on any of my characters.

Bar-positions

Hi, this mod it so damn good =)

One request though:
I want the bars for Dot-tracking to allways be closest to the scale, and after the dot-bars the bars for short buffs/CD:s/Bossmods etc. Right now it looks a little silly when the dot-bars "float" a bit above the scale when no buffs or cd:s are up.
Whould be great if you could just rearrange the order of the bars, or make it possible for the user to do it themself.

Doing a really great job with the mob, keep it up.

As it seems that more people want to have the possibility to change the ordering of the bars I will add this as soon as possible.
I also have animations for the icons on my TODO list.

Glyph of Serpent Sting doesnt seem to work. Duration should be increased with 6 seconds due to the glyph, but the default duration of 15 seconds is shown by CompactBars

This might be beyond the scope of the addon, but tracking HoTs as well as DoTs will make this very attractive to several classes. Is this something you consider adding support for?

Would be possible but it will require some work as I don't want the standard person/spell display but a spell/person display as you will normally have more hots active than spells... so this should the best option so save screen space.

And also the druid aoe heal needs some special coding.

A few feature requests:

1. Would it be possible to add the ability to change where each bar is placed.

Like say you have
1---------
2---------
3---------

you can choose to have 3 in place of 1 or 2 in place of 3?

2. Option to change the padding between bars or bar and scale. say i have these three bars ||| but i want to them to look like this ||_| instead.

3. I dunno if it's a bug or if it can be changed already but If i have a timer that's say 60 seconds and my scale is only 28 seconds i'll get a bar that's more then double the size of the scale, i'd like to limit the barsize to the scale itself.

Point 1 should be possible with the latest revision (to be honest it is a bit bugged and will be fixed with the rc4) .. you find it under View -> Bar order

2. Maybe but will do my other things from the todo before

3. Won't restrict that because you have the possibility to add logarithmic segments:
How to do that can be found here: http://wow.curseforge.com/projects/d...ages/tutorial/

K I think i updated right before rc3 or something today.

I also wasn't aware that it was because i had my logarithmic segments set low.

Paladin Seals

great addon!

however, minor remark:
the addon thinks paladin seals are "short buffs" but for som time they've had a 30 min duration

while its easy to disable them manually, it would be nice for new paladin users to have them disabled by default.
