Wow UI Backup 1.9

Version: 1.9
by: Infraded [More]

Finally got back into WoW and have updated my UI backup program.

1.9 -- corrects detailed timestamps in the debug output

This batch file uses the command line version of WinRAR. If you don't have it, it displays the site to download it. It also can be configured to launch WoW when finished. It backs up the Addons, WTF, and Cache folders and stores the backup in a dated folder in the WoW directory under the created 'UI Backup' folder. It also copies it to a secondary location for a true backup solution. This can be very helpful if you change/edit addons a lot, or if you use addons that you can't loose the data from; like the many logging addons.

You can change the location of the backups in the batch file. Paths are now very customizable. Just edit config section at the top of the batch file.

You can set this as your WoW launcher to be sure you have a current UI backup at all times.

Feel free to comment or post with questions.

1.9 -- corrects detailed timestamps in the debug output

1.8 -- fixes the cache folders, cleans up how WinRar is called, and adds full Vista compatibility.

1.7 -- was released by Dixon Butz (Many thanks) and adds Cache folder support.

1.0 - 1.6 -- I made several years ago and no longer have exact change notes.

If I am reading your problem correctly, then this is possibly because your World of Warcraft folder may not be located in c:\Program Files. Mine is actually in C:\Public.
You will need to backup this .bat file first then open and if necessary edit the paths on the lines beginning with the 'set' command. Also check and change any of the other options, then save the file and run it.
Otherwise, I have had no problems with Winrar recognising this archive.

So I've been using this for a few months now and must say I love it, a couple questions though.

1: Is it possible to have it delete a file before ending?
Specifically the "creaturecache.wdb" located in "\Cache\WDB\enUS" folder.
Deleting that file helps when I hunt rare spawns with addons such as NPC Scan/ESN Rare/Silver Dragon.

2: Is it possible to have it check for backups made since the most recent Tuesday/Wednesday and if detected prompt if I really want to make another backup?

I've already google'd the first one but I don't trust the command I've put together and would much prefer to see what someone else comes up with.
I know if inputted wrong it can delete a lot more than the specified file >.<

The second one though while I know can be done with a little programming, I am not sure if a batch file can actually do that. My knowledge of the command line is far too little for me to even know how to begin to try performing that.

Well any comment would be appreciated and thus thanks in advance for any input anyone would be willing to give on my two questions.

Can't wait to try this out! I'm constantly installing new UI's to get ideas for my own and this looks like a god-send! Awesome work!

Far superior command line version than any other commonly available compression software really. I made this a batch file so the source could always be seen and didn't want to distribute any compiled executable for zip support so it had to be something I hoped others would trust to download if they didn't have it already.

This started ( about 3 years ago now ) as a personal tool, and I haven't had any other primary compression tool installed for a lot longer so it was pretty much the only option at first. Shortly after the first version when I decided to distribute it, I did look for the possibly of using something a little more common, but that pretty much only left WinZIP with bad command line support and a very commercial feel to it.

There are few more options now like 7z but I'll probably still stick with rar.

Obviously you didn't even attempt to use it. WinRAR works 100% during the trial and continues functioning after the trial with no requirement of payment ( only a nag box on the graphical interface which this doesn't require ). I can find no documentation stating that RAR would cease functioning or even checks registration. I personally do have the paid copy of WinRAR but have tested this on systems with both the trial, and an "expired" trial. Also keep in mind, you do NOT need to download the specific "Command Line" version on the WinRAR website. Even the site recommends against it. Get the latest regular WinRAR and you should be fine.

Sounds like you have it pointed to a drive that isn't there or has no media installed ( a removable disk like a card reader with nothing in it). Be sure to edit the section at the top of the file to configure where you want the second ( true backup ) copy to go.

Did you edit the batch file to match your config?
