OnyxBoxUI

Version: 4.1.2
by: Albido [More]

- OnyxBoxUI -

- About the UI -

Roles supported: DPS, Tank & PvP'er
Resolution: Any widescreen setup should work. I run 1366 x 786

OnxyBoxUI is a minimalistic UI design to condense all necessary information into a small "center box". Everything is set up to push information you do not need to see out of the way. The alpha of all the UI elements are set to below 100%, as to not obstruct environmental viewing.

Perhaps the most important thing to note about the UI is the buff and debuff fames. After countless nights of configuring, I have set up the buff and debuff frames to show information in the most efficient and minimalistic way possible.
The "Center Frames" attached to each unit show important buffs and debuffs castable by players (e.x. Icebound Fort, Hand of Freedom, Bladestorm & Cyclone, Frost Nova, Strangulate), as well as Buffs and Debuffs cast by NPC targets (in dungons and raids [for the most part]). This is done so you can see the spells that matter to you, and the "unimportant" buffs and debufs (like Fort, Mark of the Wild, Battle Shout) that you don't need info on RIGHT THE HELL NOW, are kept out of immediete veiw.

This UI was built with a Tank / DPS'er in mind, and therefore lacks add-ons like grid, healbot and other healing "necessities". I have no plans to incorporate healing elements into this UI, or configure it in a way more conducive to a healer.

I love to hear feedback and answer questions. Swing by the comments page and lemme hear what you got to say!

- FAQ -

Note: there is A LOT of information in the README. I suggest that you look it over.

Q: how install the UI?
A: check the README. Also check this.

Q: question/problem with Buff frames? Vehicle? Raid Frames? Quest tracking?
A. check the README. Seriously.

Q: what's up with your buff frames?
A: It's spelled out in the opening section of this page. For more information, I suggest that you actually play with the UI a little bit; it will make MUCH more sense.

Q: the "Center Frames" show a lot of spells I don't need to see, and generally "spam" in battlegrounds / WG. What gives?
A: in short, because of how satrina buff frames handles the filtering of spells. In a battleground, people will often have spells that were cast on them by another player, but not well you were there to witness it. The result is that SBF thinks that that buff was cast by NPC, and I told it to show NPC buffs. Other than filtering out every single buff cast by players (which is not only a ton of work, but it would prevent the showing of buffs of the same name cast by NPCs), there is no way around this. That said, I can speak with 100% confidence that this does not occur in arena, due to the small space.
UPDATE: Fixed at the cost of 6 hours and 27 minutes worth of work!

Q: SBF is/isn't showing a buff/debuff that I want/don't want it to show. help?
A: I can't answer this in the FAQ. The answer is far too long, simply because of how I set up the buff frames. If you do have a question about something like this, get in contact with me via the ways I provided.

Q: How often do you update this UI?
A: As often as I need to. If something breaks with a patch, I'll fix it and upload. Other than that, I keep trying to make it better, and will upload when I think it is working well.

A bit late, but better than never. Oh man, was my UI bad back then.

Great UI. I have been using this since early wrath, when it looked a bit different. I have kept the same look as then, but updated addons and muddled with the buff bars a bit. It also has grid configged and in a place that is usable for healers if needed (made bigger if needed too). I also pvp, and that is why I have the target debuffs where they are. I think i could probably use filters and sorting with sbf better, but i guess i have just got used to finding it among the jumble of buffs. Im not as much of a perfectionist as some as well.

Anyway just for interest/to show you, here it is: http://img522.imageshack.us/i/screen...610223327.jpg/

Sorry it is a bit out of date, I am currently transferring my character and can't log on it.
Wow! That's from a long time ago! That's really cool that you're still using it! I always love to see how people take something and run with it and make it their own. I hope it keeps working out for you so well!

In regard to the chat mod, you first have to go to the Blizzard section of the interface control, and go to "social" and click unclick "lock chat settings". Then hover over the chat frame, and when the "tabs" come up, right click on the "general" one and select "unlock frame".

When you're done, I suggest you undo the steps, so you don't accidentally move the frame.

I'm beginning to think it's a LUA file somewhere and since I'm not versed in any coding at all, any help would be greatly appreciated.

4.0 Coming soon!

Hello everybody!

I've been using this UI since I've made it, for every character I play. I love it. No other UI that I've found is so fine-tuned to my tastes (obviously, I'm the one who made it!). That said, I've been looking towards the future for this UI.

I've started PvPing again. I did in tBC, and there was a period (S2&S3) that I was 2k+ in all teams. I did not have a real UI back then, so when I started again, I knew I needed to overhaul this one. So, with that in mind, here is a list of the major changes incoming:

Buff frames - totally overhauled. The original conditions I set up for the "center buffs/debuffs" wasn't working NEARLY as well as I hoped. PvP made this blindingly obvious. Here's what's happening:
  • Target - Will have two separate "layers" of buffs and debuffs. One will show all NPC buffs and debuffs (pets excluded). The other will show "important" PvP buffs & debuffs, like Pain Suppression, Frost Nova, Anti-Magic Shell, Weakened Soul, Barkskin, Ardent Defender, Bladestorm and Viper Sting.
  • Player - Same as target frames. Will show all npc buffs/debuffs and things like Power Word: Shield and Polymorph.
  • Pet & Focus - Receiving much the same treatment as the previous 2, still small and compact.
  • Player, Debuffs - Now have filters to not show redundant buffs / debuffs that the Player frame shows. Will show all other debuffs (i.e. Frost Fever, Corruption, etc.) in a much more visible manner.

Raid Frame
- Now come in 10, 15, 20 and 25 player varieties!

Memory - Cut out ~10 MB of memory usage during gameplay.

Nameplates
- Received a graphic update, cast bar works much better now. (Hopefully)

Cast Bar
- Will now show what casts cannot be interrupted as well as helping the pet bar find a better home.

Really, the big thing you should be excited about here is the buff/debuff overhaul. I don't think there is a UI out there that has done what I am attempting to do. I've never been more excited to upload a UI in my life!

It's still very much in the works, as there are tons of spells I need to filter out so they don't show up when you don't want them too. That said, I've been playing with it so far, and when it works, it's a joy to use. Everything you need to know is right in front of you, and barring looking for what buffs I'm missing in raids, I've never had to look at the complete player/target buff/debuff list.

Spam with the filter is still very much a problem in BGs, where SBF cannot accurately detect if a spell was cast by a player or an NPC. So, I have to go thru by hand and cross of spells I don't want to see. That's the primary reason I haven't released a new version in a while: I have to filter every buff that can be cast by a player, and that's a huge task.

Look forward to new screenshots soon. I'd expect another week to three weeks before I'm happy enough with the new version to release it.

Until then...
