BottleCap: an AntiCAPS addon
Click here to lend your support!

Sick and tired with ALL CAPS CHAT? So am I! Therefore, I wrote this addon.

BottleCap is a minimalistic addon which checks for those who accidentally leave their caps lock on, and converts the text into all lower-case chat for you. It also includes a "Verbose Mode", which will indiscriminately converts all chat into lower-case text, regardless of original case.

Compatible with Prat, Chatter and Phanx Chat.

Join the Caps Lock Prevention Society today!

KNOWN ISSUES:
- BottleCap will not alter text in the chat bubbles. Blizzard don't want us messing around with them.

TODO:
- Prevent you from sending ALL CAPS.
- Add support for WIM.

Please direct all feedback to the Ticket Centre.
Change Log - BottleCap: an AntiCAPS addon
Version 3.1
- Added options allowing you to choose which channels should be monitored for all caps chat. Everything except guild and officer chat is monitored by default.
- Added an option to prevent all caps chat from showing instead of being changed to lower case.
- Added slash commands "/bottlecap" and "/bc" which show the options frame when typed.
- Removed some trailing whitespace.

Version 3.0.2
- Really updated for WoW 3.1.0 (I couldn't get on the PTR... /excuses)
- Remove now redundant Prat-3.0 compatibility layer.

Version 3.0.1
- Updated for WoW 3.1.0.

Version 3.0
- STANDALONE! No longer depends on Prat-3.0, but will work with and without it! w00t!!

Version 2.0.1
- Verbose Mode now works with chat with links in it.
- Due to popular demand, BottleCap now ignores system messages.

Version 2.0
- Rewritten for Prat-3.0 and WoW-3.0

Version 1.0
- Initial public release.

An option to automatically lowercasify your text and spam you when you leave your caps lock on is in the works.

Great addon - thanks
I was just wondering if it is possible for addon to turn off CAPSLOCK when entering any text input field or frame.
I'm complete ignorant with programming, so sorry if its wrong place to ask, but you're addon is the only one i found that deals with CAPSLOCK - and thank You for that

I am well aware of this as I haven't told BottleCap to filter those channels yet, only the most problematic ones. You will find the same thing happens regardless of what (if any) chat mods you have installed.

I will add Guild, Party, Raid and RaidWarning filters in soon.
Ahh.. I wasn't aware. I just added the filter myself.

Thanks.

Since removing the Prat-3.0 compatibility layer this is now possible. I hope to add this in the next release.

It's a shame no-one else does the same (I never knew it was possible until now ).
Besides, I use an Apple Mac and don't have this "windows register".

I've had a go at this but so far I can only get it to work without Prat-3.0 installed.
I'll continue my research and see if I can make it work for both parties (those with, and those without Prat-3.0).

Is it possible to let BottleCap filter texts with caps to not showing them at all ?

I always ignore players using caps and if BottleCap converts their annoying behaviour to lower-case texts I can't see they're using caps and I maybe still answer them. So I prefer not seeing at all what they're saying.

BottleCap is now standalone!

The addon directory has been renamed to "BottleCap". If you used versions of BottleCap prior to 3.0, you will need to delete the "Prat-3.0_BottleCap" folder first.

EDIT: Beta 2 removes the debug lines. Whoops!
EDIT: v3.0 has been officially released! Changes from Beta 2 include fixing glyph links with Verbose Mode enabled.

This could be do-able, but it could be difficult to make it work perfectly.

Player names I can't do. I could do races/classes/towns etc but it could make this mod more bloated than I want... I'll look into it though.
1) Cheers. =D
2) Yeah that's not really needed. Would be funky if doable but not required.
3) Thought Names of players was possible cause Prat finds them and colours them, but I could be wrong. Either way, races/classes/towns is fine.

Bloat... meh. Most people have to have a decent spec'd PC to run WoW these days and don't mind a bit of bloat.

Of course there are some things that are just totally pointless or extremely bloated. These things should be enable-able/disable-able.

Take Talented for example, nice idea, but too much bloat for me. If he had options or streamlined version, I'd probably use it. But alas, author chooses to throw it all to a take it or leave it type outcome, so I choose to leave it.

Prat3 is great, sure it's a lot of bloat but has options to disable things. Which is great and why I use it.

I guess my point is, if you add more and more to this addon, give options for the user to be able to enable or disable things should counter bloatness that some may not like in an addon.

Thanks for getting back to me. Appreciated. =)

Request

Probably a long shot, but going to ask anyway.

Can you leave the initial letter as a Capital and detect for full stops, leaving the first letter after a full stop as a Capital?

As well as Capitalise the first letter of Names, Classes, Towns, etc?

Yeah, I ask for a lot... but figured I'd ask.

Thanks. =)
