TB Auto-Tracker

Version: r51-release
by: Valana [More]

Features

PvE Instances
If you are a Hunter with the Improved Tracking talent, TB Auto-Tracker will make sure that you use a form of Tracking which grants you the damage bonus upon entering a PvE instance, or being resurrected inside one. Because there is no typically no need to keep switching your active Tracking during a PvE instance, TB Auto-Tracker will not attempt to adjust it at any other time in the middle of an instance. This is to avoid disrupting you by casting a Tracking spell at an inopportune time.

Arenas
Furthermore, TB Auto-Tracker will attempt to determine the composition of the opposing team during Arena matches. If a Rogue, Druid, or invisible unit is detected, or if you do not have Improved Tracking, TB Auto-Tracker will enforce Track Hidden. Otherwise, and provided you have the Improved Tracking talent, TB Auto-Tracker will switch to Track Humanoids. In the event that there is an invisible mage or a Night Elf in Shadowmeld in the opposing team, TB Auto-Tracker will keep trying to determine the best tracking until you engage in combat, at which point it will stop entirely to avoid disrupting your match.

Battlegrounds & Lake Wintergrasp
TB Auto-Tracker will switch to Track Humanoids in battlegrounds and Lake Wintergrasp if you have Improved Tracking and an improved form of tracking enabled. Otherwise, it will switch to Track Hidden.

Dual Talent Specialization
TB Auto-Tracker is aware of the dual talent specialization feature, and will readjust itself if you switch talent specializations in the middle of an instance.

Notice
TB Auto-Tracker depends on TB Core. The latest release of TB Core is included with TB Auto-Tracker so you do not need to download it separately.

Localizations
Localization for TB Auto-Tracker is open. Please contribute your translations using the CurseForge contribution page.

About the Author
I am a professional software engineer who plays World of WarCraft way too much and develops add-ons as a hobby (crazy, I know!). I have played the same character since the release of World of WarCraft, a hunter called Valana, in the Team BATTLE guild on the Mug'thol realm. I raid some, but my primary focus in this game is PvP.

Release notes for r48-release:
- Updated a lot of the detection logic to be less intrusive, more accurate, and to clean up some unwanted error messages resulting from trying to set the tracking type when it was not possible. Localization is no longer needed as a side-effect.
- Added support for dual-talent specialization.

So you think that I still get a 5% increase to damage when fighting undead even if I am tracking humanoids? Just wondering, because I hadn't understood it to be that way, but now you have me wondering. I thought that just the wording had changed but the mechanic was the same as the old days before several talents were combined into this one.

Assuming you're right, then your addon is perfect the way it is
Hi Shadowjade, and sorry for the late response. Everything has been very hectic lately and I hadn't been able to check in.

Yes indeed Improved Tracking affects all the designated creature types as long as you have any kind of improved tracking enabled. This was done to keep hunters from having to switch tracking type repeatedly during raids. Cheers

Hi Shadowjade,

Currently that is not the intent. Auto-Tracker tries to be as non-intrusive as possible. Switching tracking whenever you switch targets can be disruptive for world PvP, and could cause a lot of annoyance with numerous casts / cast sounds.

I also purposely do not switch tracking in combat because it eats a global cooldown, which would lower DPS in PvE, and might be fatal in PvP.

Additionally, if you are tracking material nodes such as ore mines, you wouldn't want an add-on to constantly switch for you.

Finally, 1-5% damage bonus while fighting mobs that die in 2 hits is rather inconsequential.

For instances, there is no need to switch targets based on the current target to get the damage bonus, since Improved Tracking was redesigned in 3.0.3 (I think) to affect all covered target types at all times. Besides, doing so would interfere with specific tracking types you might have in a given instance.

I am of course open to a refute, but that is currently my thought process.
