DinnerBell

Version: v1.7.0
by: ZombiePope [More]

Plays a sound when someone puts down a feast. Supports MoP, Cataclysm, and WotLK stat-increasing feasts, as well as the holiday Bountiful Feast. The sound will play even when you have the normal sounds turned off. The sound is from Ogri'la dailies; you can preview it with this:

/run PlaySoundFile("Sound\\Doodad\\SimonGame_LargeBlueTree.wav", "Master")

Very helpful so you don't miss Feasts in raids, or accidentally put down a second one!

Intentionally does not work in combat, to avoid any concerns about performance for watching the combat log. (One extra mod watching your combat log is harmless, but a dozen might be noticeable. But I don't want DinnerBell to contribute to this, so it doesn't watch the log during combat.)

v1.6.6
- TOC bump for patch 4.2.

v1.6.5
- Forward-compatible with Patch 4.2 PTR.

v1.6.4
- TOC bump for patch 4.1.

v1.6.3
- Uses new "Master" sound channel; workaround no longer needed.

v1.6.2
- Supports Goblin Barbecue.

v1.6.1
- Aware of FixModSounds and avoids conflicts.
- Removed pre-4.0 support code, bumped TOC.

v1.6
- Workaround for patch 4.0's horrible, misguided sound changes.

v1.5
- Supports Cata feasts.

I'm surprised that there aren't more comments.

Both of your mentioned addons (this one and the general fix) aren't "needs", but they're certainly "wants" and make quality of (raiding) life so much better.

Keep up the good work.

I added Goblin Barbecue. I'm sorry this wasn't available last week. The rush to level and get ready for raiding in Cata has been insane and all-consuming. :-\

I made a new mod FixModSounds, that does DinnerBell's sound workaround for all sounds not just one mod.

I had to make a new version of DinnerBell that's aware of it though, so they don't conflict. That's what v1.6.1 is.

edit: Blizzard will be fixing the annoying sound change that came with 4.0. There'll be a new version of DinnerBell that doesn't require the workaround whenever they fix it.

v1.6 has a workaround for patch 4.0's bizarre sound changes. It turns the sound on and volume up for 1 second, so the sound will play. The workaround won't activate until 4.0, but it's in the code now waiting for 4.0, and the mod won't need an update.

I'm still looking for a better workaround, but what I expect will happen is tons of people will throw a fit on live once they realize their boss mods don't play sounds they want, and Blizzard will fix it then. Hopefully.

BTW, currently on Cata it's not possible to play addon sounds when sound effects are off. Several authors have complained about this to Blizzard.

If Blizzard doesn't change it, I'll just make DinnerBell turn sounds on for 1 second when playing the sound. There's no need to address this issue until 4.0 though.

The new version has the Cataclysm feast IDs. I couldn't test it without the profession and mats, but it's almost certain to work.

It also supports Addon Loader if you have it.

It still works for me; I've been using it all week, and I tested it with sounds off and on both. Has anyone else had trouble?

3.3.5

Not sure if it is just me, but noticed that it is not currently functioning in raids for me since the patch

Today's version 1.3 is just a TOC bump for Patch 3.3.

I added Bountiful Feasts. It also works in 3.3, although there'll be another update then just to bump the TOC.

updated for patch 3.2

The new version updates the TOC for patch 3.2 and adds support for Great Feasts. If you've modified your version it may not be worth updating just for this. The previous version is tested and still works with patch 3.2.

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. At some point I'll make a new version so the user can change the sound without editing the Lua. I just have to decide on the right way to add a little configuration without bloating up the addon to 100x its current size. Until then, you can just change this line:

Code:
local BELL_SOUND = "Sound\\Doodad\\SimonGame_LargeBlueTree.wav"
WoWWiki has an entry on PlaySoundFile macros with a lot of sounds listed. If you really want the Red Dwarf sound, a combination of Firefox DownloadHelper and AoA Audio Extractor will let you make an MP3 from the YouTube video. (I guess you'd need additional software to clip out just the part you want to play; I don't know what to use there.) Then you could put RedDwarf.mp3 in the Interface folder, and play it with "Interface\\RedDwarf.mp3"
