WoW Crap Cleaner
WoW Crap Cleaner

What is WoW Crap Cleaner?

WoW Crap Cleaner is a tool to clean your World of Warcraft directory. The program scans your AddOn directory and WTF directory and then shows the results in a few tabs.

Which files is WoW Crap Cleaner looking for?

WoW Crap Cleaner looks for your installed AddOns, *.lua files, *lua.bak files and SavedVariable.lua and shows it all in organized tabs.

WoW Crap Cleaner has a tab for unofficial Blizzard AddOns, a tab for Blizzard AddOns, a tab for SavedVariable.lua files and a tab for *lua.bak files.

Why should I use WoW Crap Cleaner?

You should use WoW Crap Cleaner if you want to scan for settings that are left over by deleted AddOns, if you want to reset a Blizzard AddOn by deleting the setting of that specific AddOn, if you want to delete a specific SavedVariable.lua or want to remove all *lua.bak files.

IMPORTANT: Before doing anything with my program, make sure you backup your directory first. My program has a neat little button that automatically creates a backup of your Interface and WTF directory with the date of the backup. Use my program at your own risk!

Comments and suggestions are appreciated!

*Changed some inner coding.
*Button "Create Backup" and "Search" are back! .

Beta 1.4

*After pressing search, or deleting a AddOn (which in turn also performs a search for leftover settings of that AddOn), the first item is selected in all of the lists (if there is at least one item in the list present).

Beta 1.1
*Added a few checks to prevent the program from crashing.
*Small tweaks to the layout.
*Added progress bar when deleting multiple items.

Beta 1.0
*Release.

yeah... so that made no difference...well I take that back, no it just sits there longer before it times out and tells me it's not responding
I had the same problem with this program until I renamed the Backup folder to something else. Then it worked without any troubles.

pattern to freezing...

I love this AddOn despite the issues surrounding the freezing... I've noticed certain circumstances when it always freezes... and over time, that as long as I avoid those circumstances, it works well and consistently for me. We play WoW as a family and I maintain all of the computers in our home, so I have used this AddOn on two desktops and two laptops, (all different brands, different levels of performance, two have XP and two have Vista...) ...and the issues seem to occur regardless of the computer/OS...

Thought I'd share my observations--might help other users who just want it to work and/or the author to figure out where the glitch may lie...

1. Once it freezes, it tends to freeze more frequently. My practice: delete the addon, reload WoW, play for a few seconds, log off WoW, unpack a fresh copy of WoW Crap Cleaner...

2. It seems to not work at all if I hurry to an action just after booting it. My practice: wait a good 5-10 seconds after booting it up.

3. Though having a back-up function is a really smart (essential) option for an addon of this nature, I've noticed that it tends to freeze more frequently after I've run the back-up function and then moved on to the search function. My practice: I don't use the back-up function in the add-on... However, I do manually make copies of my Interface & WTF folders before running it...

4. Though I don't know anything about code or how this works, it seems to me that the problem lies somewhere in telling the addon to do something when it hasn't finished another process, (whether that be booting up, searching, backing up, deleting settings, scrolling to view the Leftover AddOn Settings or switching tabs...). My practice: handle the add-on like I would a young child... meaning: not rushing it through each task, not asking it to do more than one thing at a time, letting it finish each step before moving on to the next and when it does mess up (aka freeze), wipe the slate clean and give it a fresh start.

So, yes, this AddOn does have issues. But IMHO, the benefits of this little gem FAR outweigh it's idiosyncrasies. As long as I respect those idiosyncrasies, it keeps my files squeaky clean!

Hi, this program worked fine for me when I clicked "delete leftover files".

However, when I then selected a third party addon and clicked "Delete", it froze up. Checking the Addon folder, the addon I wanted it to delete had indeed disappeared, but the program had ceased responding.

Also, I'm curious why this program needs to connect to the internet? My bandwidth monitor program popped up a permission box for this program, and when I clicked "No", it promptly had an error and closed. It opens fine though when allowed to connect to the net.

*Edit: I'm using XP and have Framework 3.5.

Running Vista Home Premium 64bit SP2, with .net fully up to date, and the freezing is random, but this works less than it "freezes".

Best zip/unzip is 7zip http://www.7-zip.org/

I Filled in all the folder options correctly, I do have the latest version of Microsoft Framework, and the first time I downloaded and ran this software, it ran fine.

(Saved it to my desktop from the rar file, ran it form my desktop, setup my folder options, clicked search, created a backup, and cleaned the files, then exited.)

Since then I have run it a few times just to make a backup and never had any problems, however sicne that first run I have not clicked the search button, only the backup button, this morning I tried to do another scan and I started getting this freeze.

I tried rebooting, restarting the program over and over and it seems to happen every time, so basically after my first install and run the search button no longer works.

Running Vista Ultimate x64 here. Are there any logs I can provide you with to maybe help find a solution? Thanks for the great program!

Do you have the Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 installed? That is needed for my application to run.

WoW Crap Cleaner

People calling Vista crap are uneducated morons or just anti-Microsoft fanatics.

More to the point, WoW throws everything in folders such as WTF, WDB and Interface straight into RAM when it boots up, deleting random unused files will slightly reduce your memory consumption, depending on what files are laying around.

I personally have Curse Client do it for me since it's built in, nifty program none-the-less though.

I'm not sure what is wrong with the program on my system, I'm going to check it out some more today. I'll post back if I can get some different results.

Now it seems that I can't unrar it. What is everyone using to unrar this file? Keeps telling me there are no files even though I can see the exe in the folder.
WinRAR -> www.rarlabs.com

I'll look into it

People still use that resolution? I'll make it around 800x600 but with a little widescreen flavor (and it wil still fit!

hi, i tested the last version you posted, but i think there is a few things you could fix like automatic recognizing of the wow folder, maybe make it find the wow exe? and then setup where the WTF folder is, also auto generate a backup folder + backup support if you wanna restore quickly

another way would be to make a installer and make sure the settings is stored in %appdata% or regedit

either way i love this!
Good suggestion, I will make it so you only need to select the wow.exe and a backup folder and the rest will be automatically detected.

I will also have a look on how to find registry settings of a specific program and let the program fill the folders in all by itself.

Auto-backup I won't do, because I want to let the user decide for himself, but restoring a backup is something I might implement.

Can't promise anything though!

As for Vista. I can't do much about it. Vista is just a crap os (imo). I blame Microsoft.

@Melis

Do you get a error? Or just a plain hard crash and that's it? If you get a error, can you post it?
