Tidy Plates: Threat Plates - Version 8.6

About:
Tidy Plates: Threat Plates (TPTP for short) is a addon for customizing your nameplates. It offers a high amount of customization and tweaks to how your nameplates react and look. It also offers some unique features that are not available with any other nameplate addon. I've spent a considerable amount of time improving this addon and any comments or concerns about this addon are appreciated. I'm always looking for ways to improve this addon.

Starting with version 8.6.0, TPTP now is a standalone addon that no longer requires TidyPlates. Please enable only one of these two nameplate addons, otherwise two overlapping nameplates will be shown for units.
Features:
  • SharedMedia support and many, many, options for name, health, level, and spell text. As well as all of the standard nameplate features such as castbar and icon, elite icons / textures, skull icons / textures, raid marks, and healthbar coloring/alpha/scale.
  • Ace3 profiling.
  • Low memory footprint.
  • Threat system management.
  • Automatic talent detection and role assigning for an easy out of the box setup.
  • Customizable widgets.
  • Customizable totem nameplates.
  • Customizable nameplates for extra customization for specifically named units.
Commands:
  • /tptp - Displays options.
  • /tptptoggle - Toggle Role from one to the other.
  • /tptpdps - Toggles DPS/Healing threat plates.
  • /tptptank - Toggles Tank threat plates.
  • /tptpol - Toggles nameplate overlapping.
  • /tptpverbose - Toggles addon feedback text.
Additional Information:
A considerable amount of information about options and its internal priorities are not gone into details. Most options that are enable or disable based will toggle off options that are no longer changeable once enabled or disabled. If you have any questions about options and what they do, feel free to leave a comment or PM me here for more information.
TPTP In Action
Please feel free to leave feedback in the comments!

8.6.0 (Standalone, TidyPlates is no longer required)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Integrated all necessary parts of TidyPlates into ThreatPlates to make it standalone. TidyPlates is no longer required for ThreatPlates to work.
  • Added new widget Boss Mods to show auras from boss mods on your nameplates (since patch 7.2, hostile nameplates only in instances and raids).
  • Fixed a bug with healthbar background working like alpha (0% should be nontransparent).
  • Fixed a bug with castbar background transparency working like alpha (0% should be nontransparent).
  • Fixed bug where the resource widget border was not shown correctly on rare occasions.
  • Fixed several bugs with widgets not showing up or not updating in headline view even if enabled.
  • Removed the deprecated aura widget.

Ok, finally the new version 8.6.0 with the boss mods functionality is released. It took me a lot of time as there was a bug that I just could not fix (not related to the boss mod part).

Yeah, I released an alpha where it's working already, but I did not find the time to finsh it. v8.6. which will contain it will probably take two more weeks to finish. So, I think it's best to disable it until v8.6. is release. Sorry for that.

dbm right now simply does basic and more limited version of it if user isn't using kui, but if they are using kui it just passes it on to KUI to handle. you can look at DBM-Nameplates to see what's going on.

If you add proper support then I can simply update DBM to pass request to threat plates.

This is still used and quite helpful on a LOT of fights (most notable this tier is showing what mobs have bone armor on Desolate Host

You will note that DBM still supports friendly nameplate auras while Bigwigs version of it stripped that out. My thought on this was that world bosses have no restrictions and you just never know.
I started to working on supporting this feature now. Is there any easy way to test it (like a button for showing test icons like there is for other DMB UI elements)? Going into LFR to test it is to really fun

Edit: Ah, found it: /run DBM.Nameplate:Show(true, UnitGUID("target"), 227723)
Glad I checked this, so I should go ahead and add TPTP global to DBM so DBM passes it to you and doesn't double up and run internal code as well.

and done, now if you use latest alpha, DBM will trust you to handle it, and not run any of it's internal nameplate code at all. Now you get to do all fun stuff, test the enable/disable call backs, etc.
Great. I'll do that. It's basically working right now, even in raids (with some local changes to DBM). Still have to improve the performance though. Plan is to integrate it into the 8.6 release (with ETA currently).

And I can't change any of those settings either, none of the drop down menus work, can't change from graphite or anything.

Ended up disabling everything but tidy plates, the widget, and then the threat platess. Works fine now :P I am also able to load all my other addons.
That's really weird, but good that it works again.

Ok, that sounds interesting. I'll have a look at it.

What got the feature removed was exorsus using nameplates to calculate player positions. Because you get position of any namplate on screen, and because friendly nameplates existed, exorsus created tools that allows them to write a HUD using nameplates even though blizzard went out of their way to kill huds by gutting UnitPosition. It was pretty complex too and even enabled them to use radars again because you can stll use spells to check ranges, so checking ranges AND nameplates combined let you approximate unit positions without UnitPosition(). The end result is, now blizzard gutted nameplates too. Blizzard wasn't mad at bigwigs and DBM for what they did, and would have left nameplates alone if Exorsus hadn't tried to get clever and use them to bring back a feature blizzard intentionally removed.
I did not know that. There were some requests to implement these features (anchoring DMB/BW stuff) some time ago, but before I had the time to look into it, Blizzard removed the possibility . Still, interesting to know what was possible.

I still think Blizzard should have found another solution than to disable all nameplate addons in raid environments for friendly units. But it was the easiest solution, I guess.

Yeah, I just think it was the easiest solution for them for the problem (that boss mods used nameplates for highlighting certain things).
When I originally created Threat Plates back when I was breaking world firsts in Ulduar, one of my biggest features was custom nameplates.

Really made visibility for special mobs amazing.

Miss having the time to really enjoy my mod.
