Silent XT

Version: 1.0
by: help137 [More]

This is a set of sound replacements to silence the new Lil' XT pet.

Please note: Since the pet uses the same sound files as the real XT002 Deconstructor, this will silence the real one as well. There's no way around that without LUA codeing that I am not capable of (yet).

CATACLYSM NOTE: These sound mods work with the Cataclysm Beta as of Wow version 4.01 (12857)(Test) Aug 27, 2010

Unlike other sound mods that use a corrupt .wav file accomplish the feat, this uses properly formatted silent .wav files.

Nine files are present

UR_XT002_Adds01.wav
UR_XT002_Aggro01.wav
UR_XT002_Berserk01.wav
UR_XT002_Death01.wav
UR_XT002_HeartClose01.wav
UR_XT002_HeartOpen01.wav
UR_XT002_Slay01.wav
UR_XT002_Slay02.wav
UR_XT002_Special01.wav

DIRECTIONS:
This does not install like a normal Addon. Unzip it into your DATA folder instead of your ADDONS folder. The final path should look like this on a Windows XP pc:

C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Data\Sound\Creature\XT002Deconstructor\UR_XT002_Adds01.wav

or like this on a Windows 7 PC

C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft\Data\Sound\Creature\XT002Deconstructor\UR_XT002_Adds01.wav

or like this for a system running Mac OS X

/Applications/World of Warcraft/Data/Sound/Creature/XT002Deconstructor/UR_XT002_Adds01.wav

Linux users will have to figure out the proper folders on thier own for now. If a linux user wants to post the proper file path, I'll add it in.

Thanks to the authors of AudioX II for enableing me to find the right files.

Thanks to whomever did the gunshot sound mod for letting me know you could change sounds in the first place!

Enjoy!

He's mostly silent now, but he still issues the "I'm tired, I'll rest for just a moment now" sound. I suspect that this is a new sound not uttered by XT-002.

Dark,
Yes, if you've not installed any sound mods in the past the tree will need to be created. I've got a couple of add-ons available to silence some of the more annoying sound FX in the game and several other people have posted yet still more. A few of the older ones will try and create the tree when unzipped, but with at least 4 different standard paths at this point (WinXP, Win7, Mac, Linux), I don't include the paths in my zip files.

I would think that you could register the CHAT_MSG_MONSTER_YELL event with an addon, do a string compare against what the known quotes are, and then play the appropriate sound file.
The addon doing this would have to include the sound files, since you've overridden the originals in the .\Data\Sound\Creature\ directory.
