Rematch is an addon to help manage battle pet teams and pets.

Its primary purpose is to store and recall battle pet teams for targets. For instance:
  • When you target Aki the Chosen, bring up the Rematch window and hit Save, you can save in her name the pets you have out.
  • When you return to Aki another day, you can target her, bring up the window and it will offer you those saved pets to load.

How to Use

You can summon the Rematch window several ways:
  • Set a key binding from options.
  • /rematch command.
  • The Rematch button at the bottom of the pet journal.
  • 'Use Minimap Button' in options will create a minimap button.
  • From its LDB button if you use a Broker infobar addon.
  • Have 'Auto Show' checked in options and target something for which you have a saved team that's not already loaded.

Saving a Team

As mentioned at the top, this addon's primary purpose is to save for targets. Target an NPC, click Save, and you will be prompted to save in their name.

If you choose to keep the target's name for the team, then you'll be offered that team to load when you return to it another day. Within options you can choose to make Rematch automatically pop up when you return to that target, or you can make the team load immediately without messing around with the addon at all.

When a team is saved with an NPC targeted, or when saving over an existing team that was initially created at the target, the team's name will be white and it will react only to that specific instance of the NPC.

If you manually name a team named after an NPC without it targeted, or you got the team from elsewhere without targeting information saved, its name will be gold and it will react to any copies of that NPC you run across in the world.

You're also free to save without regard for target. Name your team anything you want and you can return to the teams tab later to load it back from the Teams tab.

Teams

When teams are saved, they're stored in the Teams tab.
  • To load a team manually, double click it.
  • You can create up to 7 additional tabs in addition to the default General team tab.
  • When a team is saved, it will go to the current tab. You can change the current tab while saving at the bottom of the save dialog.
  • All team names are unique, even across tabs. If you have "Aki the Chosen" in a tab named "Dailies", and you save "Aki the Chosen" in General, it will move that team to General and save it there. (But don't worry, if the teams are sufficiently different, it will ask for confirmation first).
  • Right-click a tab to change its name or icon, delete it (or re-order tabs if you've created more than one).
  • When a tab is deleted, all teams within the tab are moved to the General tab.
  • You can right-click a team to do various things as well, such as renaming, deleting or sharing it.
  • You can bind a key to open the Teams tab directly.

Pets

The Pets tab contains a pet browser and a leveling queue.

Just about anyplace you see a pet, you can double-click it to summon the pet, or dismiss it if it was already out.

The "tooltip" for pets is a pet card with stats:
  • Hold Alt to flip the card over for more about your pet.
  • Click the pet to lock the card in place so you can mouseover abilities.
  • When the card is locked it has a wooden frame around it. You can unlock it several ways: clicking one of the little screws in a corner, clicking the pet again from where you locked it, hitting ESCape or any other major interaction with the addon.
  • You can shift+click pets and abilities to chat.

Some advantages the built-in pet browser has over the default pet journal:
  • You can search the names of abilities or text within abilities.
  • You can search for level and stat ranges.
  • In addition to filtering pets by type, you can filter by 'Strong vs': if you filter Strong vs Dragonkin, it will list all pets with Magic attacks.
  • You can also filter to pets that are Tough vs a type of attack: filtering Tough vs Elemental will list all critters.
  • A 'Type Bar' to filter by the various types without going through the dropdown menus.
  • A counter at the bottom of the browser tells you how many pets are listed: search level=25 and you'll see how many level 25 pets you own.

To clear filters, you can click the little X button in the search box or the type bar, or you can click the X along the bottom when filters are applied. You can also click 'Reset All' within the filters menu.

Searches

In the search bar of the pet browser, you can not only search for names of pets and their source, but you can also search for:
  • Names of abilities ("Call Lightning")
  • Text within abilities ("Bleed")
  • Level ranges ("level=25" or "level>10" or "level=8-13")
  • Stat ranges ("health>700" or "speed=250-350" or "power>=276")

Also:
  • Searches are not case sensitive. "Bleed" will work just as well as "bleed" or "BLEED".
  • You can hit "Fill" on the leveling queue to add one of each species from your search results to the leveling queue.
  • When you look at the pet card, abilities that contain the search text will be marked with a gold ring.
  • You can also search levels, stats and text simultaneously:
  • "bleed health>700 level<25" : Pets with Bleed in text that have over 700hp and are under 25.
  • "level<25 bleed health>700" : Same thing. The order of search isn't important.
  • "health>700 <25 bleed" : Same again. If a stat doesn't appear with a < > or =, it assumes level.

Leveling Pets

Thanks to suggestions from Behub, Aloek and others, Rematch has a robust system to make leveling pets easy.

In the Pets tab there is a leveling slot with a shiny gold border. You can drag a pet here to mark it as your leveling pet. (You can also right-click a pet elsewhere like in the journal and choose 'Start Leveling')
  • Any teams saved with a leveling pet will reserve that pet's slot for future leveling pets.
  • When you see a shiny gold border around a pet anywhere in Rematch, it means that is a leveling pet.

So if you save teams for various tamers with the leveling pet loaded, when you return to those tamers later with a different leveling pet, it will load that new leveling pet in their saved places.

The Leveling Queue

In addition to the gold-bordered leveling slot, there is a leveling queue you can store any number of pets that you intend to level.

As soon as your current leveling pet reaches 25 (grats!), if there are any leveling pets waiting it will swap the top-most pet in the queue to the leveling slot.

From the gear button to the right of the leveling slot you can:
  • Sort the queue by level: Ascending (level 1 to 25), Descending (25 to 1) or Median (closest to level 10.5).
  • Create your own order by dragging pets around and inserting them between other pets, or by right-clicking a pet and choosing the move options.
  • Use the Auto Rotate option to move to a new pet in the queue after each successful pet battle.
  • Fill the queue from pets in the browser. For instance, search "21-24", filter for Rare and hit Fill to add 21-24 rare pets to the leveling queue.
  • Empty the queue. It will ask for confirmation before clearing the queue.
  • If you want to switch to another pet for one fight without changing the order, double-click the pet in the queue. You can drag it to the leveling slot or right-click the pet and choose Start Leveling.
  • If the current leveling pet is loaded, you can navigate around the queue with previous/next buttons when you mouseover the leveling pet.

Sharing Teams

There are two ways to share battle pet teams when you right-click it in the Teams tab:

Send will send a team to someone online on your faction.
  • When a user receives a team that you Send, they'll receive a popup displaying the team with the option to save it. If they're in combat or they have another team waiting (or a similar dialog up) it will inform you that they're busy and you should try again later.
  • To send a team cross-realm, include their realm name, such as Gello-Hyjal.
  • In options you can choose to block incoming pets if you'd like.

Export will create a WeakAuras-like text string that you can copy to the clipboard.
  • You can paste the team anywhere else: in an email, on forums, in a text file, etc.
  • Any other Rematch user can use this string to Import the same team. The Import button is in the bottomright of the main window.

If you receive or import a team that includes pets you don't have, that's fine. They'll be greyed out and only the pets you have will attempt to load. You can keep the team as is for the day when you get the pet, or you can choose to save over it if you find a suitable substitute for the missing pet.

Note: Battle.net and RealID are not totally supported yet. At present there's a test mode you can try if you'd like. If both you and your battle.net friend have the option enabled, it will attempt to send via the team via battle.net.

Also, there's a known issue with the first Send sometimes failing if you haven't been in direct /whispers with a far-away/cross-realm player. If a recipient fails to receive a team the first time you've tried, try again. It should work for the rest of the session.

Other Addons

A major goal with Rematch was to make it behave well regardless of what other battle pet addons you're using.

In some cases, it even takes advantage of the awesome addons others have created. For instance:
  • If you have the addon Battle Pet Breed ID enabled, pets will display breed information. If you click a pet and mouseover its stats, you can see all possible breeds for the pet.
  • If you have the addon Pet Battle Teams enabled, there will be a button at the end of options to import your teams from PBT.
  • If you choose to continue using PBT alongside Rematch (many do!), make sure you lock your PBT teams or auto save in PBT is disabled. The default behavior of PBT is to change the pets in your currently-selected team to whatever is loaded.
  • If you have a Broker infobar addon, it will create a button on your bars to toggle Rematch.

Bug, and a pretty obvious one I should've caught. Sorry about that! A fix will be posted today. Thanks for bringing it up!

edit: 3.0.3 just posted should fix it. And to add, part of the fix was to rework the ESC system again. The rework isn't completely done; I want to make hitting ESC close the window as if it was a "UISpecialFrame" (which it was for 3.0.0-3.0.2). But this bug is annoying enough it deserves an intermediate post. The only downside at the moment is when you have other ESCable frames up (bags, bank, panels, etc), if rematch is up, ESC will clear rematch and then another ESC is necessary to close the rest. The Show While Targeting option was removed (it was defaulted to off, now it will behave as if it was always on). It will probably return as a reverse to Hide While Targeting. Since the addon deals with targets it seems important to let you ESC to clear targets without dismissing the window too.

Really like the rewriten UI, but I have a small problem with the "default" window (the one from the 2nd screenshot, showing your pets and the button bar with 'Revive Battle Pets', etc.):

It keeps popping up after each battle (Wild, Tamers, didn't get to check on PVP yet - happens with all other addons disabled, fresh user data), which is a bit annoying for people like me who like to open their Rematch on demand instead of keeping it open all the time (that is, if there's actually someone else but me...lol).

Sooo...intendend? "Bug"? Something that might be worth adding an option in one of the next releases?

This update (3.0) is a near-total rewrite of the addon, especially the UI bits. If you're the type that doesn't like betas, you may want to wait an update or two.

As 2.x grew and grew, the UI was starting to look ugly with the sprawl. I'm also not a fan of the way windows flipped around to keep the browser from overlapping the main window and the queue next to the leveling slot. The code was starting to sprawl too with the major dialogs in 2.x all having their own frames and redundant code slipping in. And some parts needed ripped out entirely and rewritten from scratch, like the whole caged/missing pets/auto-finding pets business. It was time to go back and rewrite it.

Probably the biggest change is you can't have teams on the screen at the same time as pets (browser/queue) because they share the same space. If there's an outcry, it can be changed to get them to open together again. I'd like to keep stuff from sticking out to the side to avoid reverting back to flipping windows, but with the leveling slot attached to the queue and the teams tab the same height, it wouldn't look as messy.

I took some liberties to remove a few things too, like the side panel. The plan is to have an alternate collapsed view option to absorb that stuff. The help button is also gone. I'm hoping this version is more intuitive to use. Let me know if anything isn't clear.

Here's the current plan for how the addon will evolve from here:

That's the close pet journal option doing that. I'll fix it.

However moving pets from the end of the que to the top is a pain. Only drag and drop multible time works. The start leveling button in the rematch window is useless it keeps the pet at the bottom and only puts in in you current team. Have to drag and drop it 10x up to get it to the top at the 3. place of the que or have to remove it from the list and add it again :S
If you hold the mouse down and drag a pet off the queue, the pet is loaded onto the cursor. If you need to move it a long distance, I recommend not holding the mouse button down the entire time. As long as the mouse isn't over another pet you can release the button and the pet will remain on the cursor. You can then mousewheel up, use the scrollbar (including a little button above the top of the up button that snaps to the start of the list) and drop it at the start, or scrolldown to drop it off at the end.

The "Start Leveling" is "Make this the current leveling pet", not "Move this to the top of the queue".

The concept of the topmost pet being the current leveling pet can't continue when the queue can be sorted and auto rotated.

The order is still important. When the current leveling pet reaches 25 or ceases to be able to level (removed from queue, caged, etc) it will grab the topmost pet as the next leveling pet.

I thought this was a huge improvement. You can double-click a pet deeper in queue to level it out of order without messing with the queue order at all.

That said, as an experiment I was able to add some working move buttons to the queue menu:



The new menu system is very modular I'll see about moving it over to 2.4 and ripping out all the DropDownMenu stuff.

I'm curious about others' feeling here: are you finding the queue order unintuitive? Problems moving pets around in the queue?

3. When you redo the UI coud you think about supporting Aurora? That woud be realy great!
I probably wouldn't do it myself but the new UI will be a lot more "flat" and with less overlapping frames so it'd be more ammenable to these type of changes.

A note on 2.4.8 just posted: I added an 'Only Tradeable' option because it was trivial to do (like 15 minutes tops), and I see it mentioned now and then. I do intend to have more complete filters. Like "Not Tradable" "Duplicates" and such. Let me know if there are any others that would be handy.

99.99% of my time on this addon presently is working towards the UI revamp which is coming along awesomely but it may take more time than I had envisioned; partly due to an increased workload over the next couple weeks, partly due to the revamp being drastic enough it will probably be version 3.0. Here's a picture of an early version!



Note the resize grip along the bottom of the window. You can stretch or squish the window height. Here's one stretched to be a bit longer.. Also the current pets bit is kind of a "placeholder" for now. Rematch grew outward from current pets to the sprawl it is now. I'm rewriting the UI backwards to get common templates made, redundancies removed, and stuff more integrated and consistent. Don't panic for lack of saved pet slots. There will be team "cards" similar to pet cards and ability "card" tooltips.

But I digress...if it looks like it's going to take more time than expected, I can go back and add some more filter options to the 2.4 version. So let me know if there's any you badly want. A big important one that will likely have to wait is custom sort options like sort by speed, sort by power, etc. In the rebuild that's a key goal but will probably come after the UI-specific goals (reduce/eliminate UI sprawl; team organization/groups; save system revamp). So unfortunately a custom sort probably won't be with 2.4 if I come back for an intermediate update.

He he lol good idea, I think 250 is enoth since my Tamer notes woud be "press 1 1 1 2 switch to 2. pet 2 3 3 3 switch 3. pet 1 1 1 2 enemy down" while my Pet notes woud be "Mahh I wasted all my money on this pice of shit and its the most useless pet ever!" But then we woud need to get that info from somewhere wile in the battel :S

This is a great idea and a very timely one too. I'm reworking how teams are saved and this is a good point to add notes for teams. It'd been suggested in the past but there was no place to put them.

In the save/edit dialog I'll add a place to type notes for the team. Thinking on it now, maybe if a team has notes, when you mouseover the team in the list it will show the notes in a tooltip. When a team with notes is loaded, a button will appear beside the current pets. Mouseover of the button will show a tooltip of the notes, clicking the button will lock the notes to stay until you unlock, hit ESC or a pet battle ends.

Would 250 characters be enough space for notes? This way notes could be sent/received with the team also.

I love this addon, thank you very much for taking the time to put it all together and to keep it updated!

Would it be possible to add some sort of text/note function that would allow you to record and retrieve notes about a particular Tamer, pet, or power? This latest update (2.4.6) has a new texture that won't be recognized if you update the addon while logged into WoW. If you do update while logged in you'll see a neon green rectangle at the top of ability tooltips. Exit WoW and restart and you'll be all set.

If there's strong preference to have old-style ability tooltips back, I can make that an option easily. Also let me know if there seems to be too many options to scroll through. It only takes one line in a table to define an option so I may be adding them too frequently.

I expect one or two more smaller updates like this and then a big one that will take a couple weeks.

Thanks! I'm pretty happy with how it turned out too.

Let me know if any parts aren't intuitive or easy to understand. I'm reworking how teams are saved and organized so it's a good opportunity to do things differently there.

Oh my freaking gosh I love this addon. I went around and saved successful pet teams for the trainers in Pandaria, and now going around and doing the dailies is SO fast. Saves a ton of time! And I really love how I can create a list of pets I'd like to level up. My list is long right now, but I'm also using that queue to 'save' interesting pets I'd like to try out later.

Its caused by Pokemon Trainer

if PT is enabled 2 buttons show up if its disabled there is only one rematch button.

If anyone doesn't see a Rematch button along the bottom of the pet journal after tonight's update (2.4.2), or it's fighting for space with another addon, can you tell me what addons have stuff there on the journal for you? Thanks!

The theme of this update was making it easier to summon the window. In addition to the journal button change, there's an option to create a minimap button and a button at the bottom of options to take you to Rematch's key bindings.
