Rematch is a pet journal alternative for managing pets and teams.

Features

How to use

Rematch initially replaces your default pet journal. You can switch back to the default journal anytime by unchecking the Rematch checkbox at the bottom of the journal.

A minimizable standalone window can be summoned a few ways:
  • From a key binding defined in the default key binding interface.
  • /rematch macro command.
  • "Use Minimap Button" in options will create a minimap button.
  • From its LDB button if you have a Broker infobar addon.

Tooltips explain many parts of the addon. Poke around and experiment! Check out the options. There are several views and a lot of features to the addon you can discover over time.

Teams

You can save an unlimited number of teams in up to 16 user-defined tabs.
  • When saving a team, if you choose a target, Rematch will know what team to load when you interact with that target later.
  • Teams that contain a target are named in white. Teams without a target are named in gold.
  • In options you can choose to automatically load these team when you interact with their target, or to prompt instead for more control over when their teams load.
  • The standard behavior of a team tab is to sort all teams alphabetically. You can rearrange the order of teams by right-clicking its tab and checking "Custom Sort". While checked, right-click teams within the tab to move them around.
  • You can add notes to a team from its right-click menu. These notes can be used for strategies, for tagging purposes (search will include these notes) or any other information you want. Notes can be up to 4k in length.

Pets

To help make these teams, Rematch has expanded filter options, a TypeBar (opened by clicking the arrow next to the search box) for easily finding counters, and enhanced search ability.

If you open the TypeBar there are three tabs: Types, Strong Vs and Tough Vs:
  • Types allows you to quickly filter to a specific type or group of types.
  • Strong Vs will filter the list to pets that do increased damage to the chosen types. For instance choosing Magic will list all pets with attacks that are strong against Magic (all pets with Dragonkin attacks).
  • Tough Vs will filter the list to pets that receive reduced damage to the chosen types. For instance choosing Magic will list all Mechanical pets.
  • You can combine these to find double counters: For instance Chi-Chi, Hatchling of Chi-Ji is a flying pet with all elemental attacks. If you select Strong Vs Flying and Tough Vs Elemental you'll get a list of snails and other critters with magic attacks.

In the search box, you can not only search for the names of pets and their source, you can also search for:
  • Abilities ("Call Lightning" will list all pets that have this ability.)
  • Text within abilities ("Bleed" will list all pets that cause a target to Bleed or is affected by Bleeding.)
  • Level ranges ("level=25" or "level>10" or "level=8-13" will display specific levels or a range of levels.)
  • Stat ranges ("health>700" or "speed=250-350" or "power>276" are some examples.)

Also:
  • Information about pets are found in a pet card that acts like a tooltip.
  • Clicking a pet while viewing its card will lock the card in place so you can mouseover parts of the card for more details.
  • While viewing a pet card, hold <Alt> to flip the card to its back for its lore and where the pet can be found. You can also mouseover the icons at the top of the card to flip it over.
  • Like teams, pets can have notes attached to them from their right-click menu. You can use these notes for anything you want to remember about them, or for tagging purposes: add "#find" in notes for pets you want to find, and then search for "#find" to list all pets with this tag.

Leveling Queue

Rematch has a robust system for leveling pets with the leveling queue. The queue is a place to put all the pets you want to level.
  • You can order the queue however you like, or let the addon sort the queue for you.
  • When you save a team with one of these leveling pets, its slot will be reserved for future leveling pets (noted by a blue up-arrow icon).
  • When loading a team with a saved leveling slot, the reserved slot will be filled by the top-most pet from the queue (or the most preferred, see below).
  • You can also right-click a pet in the team list and choose "Put Leveling Pet Here" to convert it to a leveing pet.
  • When a pet reaches level 25 (gratz!) it will automatically leave the queue and the next leveling pet will take its place.
  • In the Queue button menu, you can fill the queue with many pets at once. For instance: in the pet panel, filter pets to High Level (15-24) and Rare, then choose Fill Queue to add level 15-24 rares to the queue.
  • For some opponents, just grabbing the top pet from the queue can kill your low level pets, or you want finer control over what pets load for a specific target. If you right-click a team that contains a leveling pet, you can click "Set Preferences" to choose various health and level ranges to refine which pet the queue will pick when a team loads.

Sharing Teams

Teams can be shared with friends directly in-game or through an export/import feature.

To share a team in-game with another Rematch user, right-click a team and choose Share->Send Team. A dialog will ask for a name, which can be either an online character or a battle.net friend. If it reports the team was succesfully sent, the recipient now has a popup with your team they can save.

You can also share teams by exporting them either in Plain Text or as a String from the same Share menu. If you paste this text or string elsewhere, someone else can import your team by copy and pasting it into the Import Teams dialog.

You can share with yourself too! If you don't regularly backup your SavedVariables and want an easy way to backup your teams, right-click a team tab and Export Tab. It will export the whole tab in string format. Paste this text in an email to yourself or in a text file someplace to keep a backup of your teams.

Other Addons

A major goal with Rematch is to make it behave well regardless of what other battle pet addons you're using.
  • If you have one of the addons Battle Pet Breed ID, PetTracker Breeds (included with PetTracker), or LibPetBreedInfo-1.0, Remach will display the breed alongside each pet and a list of possible breeds on the pet card. Other breed-specific features become available too, like filtering and viewing potential stats as a 25 rare.
  • If you have the addon Pet Battle Teams enabled, "Import From Pet Battle Teams" is added to the Teams button menu to copy all of your PBT teams to Rematch, repairing them if need be.
  • If you choose to continue using PBT alongside Rematch (many do!), make sure you lock your PBT teams or auto save in PBT is disabled. The default behavior of PBT is to change the pets in your currently-selected team to whatever is loaded.
  • If you have a Broker infobar addon or TitanPanel, it will create a button on your bars to toggle Rematch.
  • If Rematch is hiding an addon you want to access on the default journal, remember to uncheck "Rematch" at the bottom of the journal. You can turn Rematch back on whenever you want, or use the standalone Rematch window and leave the default journal and other addons alone.

Future Plans

Long-time users will know that features get added (and occasionally removed!) over time. I'm always open to suggestions for new features, but with a careful scope to prevent the addon from becoming a bloated behemoth.

The scope of the addon is limited to features that would make sense in a pet journal or in the manipulation of teams. Rematch will stay out of battles and avoid features not related to pets or teams.

At the moment a new rewrite is happening for Rematch 5.0, though admittedly development will be slowed as I'll be playing Legion more than writing addons for it. UI-wise, this won't be nearly as dramatic a change as 3.x was to 4.x.

Goals with 5.0 include:
  • Remove unnecessary fluff that's no longer relevant. Like the pullout "current leveling pet" slot and pullout loaded team bit are definitely going.
  • "Flatten" the UI to make it more ammenable to skinning and reduce frame/texture use.
  • Offload parts some users may never use to a load-on-demand module. This may include the collection stats, win records, import/export/sharing, script filters, the safari hat reminder thing, etc.
  • Allow outside modules to add their own tabs and add their own stats to pet cards. Such as a separate module to track the battle success of all of your individual pets.
  • Allow a single team to store multiple targets. So if you have one team you use for many tamers you don't need to save a copy for each tamer.
  • A "team builder" mode that lets you build teams without actually owning the pets.
  • No more sanctuary system. This may or may not require Rematch have its own breed module, but instead of recording stats it will attach only the breed with the teams and the leveling queue.
  • And a very big goal, to make 5.0 have a smaller operational footprint than 4.5. While I'm pleased overall with 4.x's size given all it can do, getting rid of fluff and offloading stuff to load-on-demand will produce a more compact and efficient addon.

In addition to the above, some other features loosely planned in a lower priority:
  • Options to adjust max level preferences due to xp buffs/events.
  • Supporting breeds on export/import.
  • Multiple search terms at once.
  • Allow multiple targets to be stored in a team.
  • Understudy on pet card for loading an alternative pet if it's dead or injured.
  • A method of choosing alternate teams if the saved team has dead or injured pets.

- The queue's control of a slot is now defined by the slot itself and no longer the pet within the slot.

- New "Win Record" system to track the success of your teams by manually or automatically recording how often they win.
- To manually add a win, loss or draw to a team that doesn't have a win record, right-click the team and "Edit Win Record".
- Once a team has a win record a button appears to the right of the team that says how often that team has won.
- Mouseover of the button will display a card-like window with details about the team's win record.
- Clicking this button will allow you to increment or edit one of its win record stats.
- If you prefer Rematch to track your wins automatically, turn on "Auto Track Win Record" under Team Options in the Options tab.
- During auto tracking, a win or loss is incremented for the loaded team at the end of each battle.
- Your forfeits are always counted as a loss; your opponent's forfeits are always counted as a win for you.
- The game does not recognize a draw. If you and your opponent's last pet dies on the same round, it will be counted as a loss.
- You can still manually edit a team while auto tracking is enabled.
- There are a couple options to change how win records are displayed, whether to display total wins instead of percent wins or whether to hide all win records, in the Options tab under Team Options.
- Each team tab now has "Sort By Wins" in its right-click menu. This will sort the teams within the tab by their win rate.
- The win record "card" will obey the Pet Cards & Notes options "Faster Pet Cards & Notes" and "Click For Pet Cards & Notes".
- For those who have already named their teams to include win-loss(-draw): "/rematch winrecord convert" will attempt to pull those numbers into the new win record system and automatically rename the existing teams.
- New menu item "Backup All Teams" added to the Teams menu, to export all teams into text that you can save elsewhere to import when needed. (Right now this backup does not include breeds or win records. That will be added in a future update.)
- Some disabled menu items will now give a reason why they're disabled in a tooltip.
- The quarter-second delay before a pet card or note displays has been added to ability cards, which can be turned off with "Faster Pet Cards & Notes" under the Pet Cards & Notes options.
- The pet card of a pet in the team list will mark the abilities that the pet uses in that team.
- Removed "Hold [Alt] to view more about this pet." on leveling pet cards.
- Fix for clicking a pet card after a leveling pet card sometimes showing remnants of the leveling pet card.

- Many internal changes to better organize and optimize behind-the-scenes stuff. In general:
- The way pets are cataloged and managed has been reworked to be "on demand". It will not spend time or memory caring about what pets you own until you summon the Rematch window or it otherwise needs to know what pets you own.
- The pet filtering process has been reworked to be more efficient. Instead of checking each filter for every pet, it will only check active filters. Reusable tables are more intelligently reused. And key parts are better optimized for speed.
- The system to handle petIDs changing (whether due to a wholesale server petID reassignment or to a caged and relearned pet) has been reworked for reliability and to reduce the time spent monitoring changes in your pets.
- The process of updating the internal data and updating the UI to reflect that data was made more internally consistent across the addon.
- When loading a target from the target panel before reaching that target, auto load will not reload the team, removing any changes you made while on the way to that target.
- When the mouse is over a team in the team list, it will highlight the tab its from.
- When "Fill Queue More" is used multiple times, each attempt will grab a qualifying pet from each species regardless of whether any are already queued or at 25.
- Added support for patch 6.2.4 battle.net changes.

- The "Overwrite Notes & Preferences" checkbox in the overwrite dialog has been removed.
- In the Save As... dialog (just the red "Save As..." button and when clicking "Save" at the top in the target panel), if the loaded team has notes or preferences, the save dialog will offer a checkbox "Save Notes & Preferences Too".
- If this is checked when the team is saved, notes and preferences from the loaded team will save to the target team (overwriting existing notes and preferences if the team is overwriting an existing team.)
- If this is unchecked when the team is saved, notes and preferences will not copy over: for a new team it will have no notes and preferences, and overwriting an existing team will preserve the existing team's notes and preferences.

- Locked notes can be dismissed just like the locked pet card: the ESCape key or by clicking one of the "screws" in the corner of the wooden frame.

It's on the to-do list. I think realistically the inverse (multiple targets within a single team) will be more likely to happen first.

Sorry for this very long post. If you don't have time to read it, a TL;DR is:

- In the next update (4.5.0) later this week, the queue's control of leveling slots is changing. It will only control slots explicitly marked as leveling slots and no longer care about the nature of the pet in the slot.
- You will turn on/off a leveling slot from the battle pet slot's right-click menu.
- Rematch 5.0 will probably not happen for a few more months still.

If you do have time to read:

This is a heads up about some upcoming changes to the leveling queue and a general state-of-the-addon as we move into Legion. I'm posting this ahead of the update since it's past when I've wanted to post it and I know some are experiencing problems with the queue and are no doubt frustrated with its behavior in the pre-patch. Also with all the pre-patch madness it's taken more work than expected to get it done properly so it may be a few more days still.

Some background first: For as long as this addon has had a leveling queue, whether the queue controlled any of the three loadout slots was determined by which of the slotted pets were in the queue. If a queued pet was slotted, the queue assumed control of that slot. Saving a team with a queued pet translated that pet to a leveling pet. This worked well enough but it has gotten cumbersome with things added over time. Multiple leveling slots, manually slotted pets that the user doesn't want the queue to handle, the "superposition" role of saving leveling pets as themselves, etc. Other complications make it a bit of a nuisance to juggle. Like if a pet levels to 25 and leaves the queue, the queue has to keep its thumb on that pet before releasing it to swap in its replacement; or that manually slotting a pet that was already slotted will shuffle pets around; or that the queue had to stop completely when pets couldn't be swapped because it could get out of sync; or the "sanctuary" system to restore petIDs in the event of a server reassignment. All of these internal rules can be handled and for the most part it's done a decent job, but recent problems with the queue in the Legion pre-patch have shown there are problems and it can do its job better. I'm pleased to say all of the above will no longer be an issue soon.

Starting with the next update (4.5.0), whether the queue controls a slot is not determined by the pet in the slot (and other factors like being manually loaded or saved as itself), but instead by you choosing which slots are to act as leveling slots.

Turning on a leveling slot can be done in one of two ways:
- The right-click menu for the slot: "Put Leveling Pet Here"
- Loading a team with leveling slots saved.

Turning off a leveling slot can be done in one of four ways:
- The right-click menu for the slot: "Stop Leveling This Slot"
- Loading a team without leveling slots.
- Unloading the currently loaded team.
- Slotting any non-slotted pet.

Other changes:
- You can mark a slot as a leveling slot without having any pets in the queue. The gold border will turn silver to show it's "disabled" or waiting until there's queued pets to fill the slot.
- The queue will no longer be locked down while in battle, pvp or combat. You can manipulate the queue all you want. Pets will just not swap until you leave battle, pvp or combat.
- The "Save Without Leveling Slots" in the save dialog is being removed. If you want to save a queued pet in a team, just turn off the leveling slot.
- Dragging the top-most pet from the queue to a loadout slot will no longer mark that as a leveling slot. You need to right-click and "Put Leveling Pet Here".

Also:
- Any non-saved leveling slot designations will only remain until you load a new team, logout or /reload. To make the leveling slots "stick" you will need to save the team. These manual leveling slot designations are temporary unless you save them.
- Until Rematch 5.x, I will not be re-implement the "sanctuary" system that tracked the changing stats of pets in the queue in the event they are caged/relearned or the server does a petID reassignment. For those rare cases when a server petID reassignment does happen, the queue will be emptied. The very nature of the queue meant the pets' stats were frequently changing and the validation/tracking methods took up the lion's share of processing for an eventually that will never happen for the vast majority of users. With the improved methods of filling the queue, I feel it's not a catastrophe if the queue is emptied in the the extremely rare event of a petID reassignment. And this will be back in a much-improved form in Rematch 5.0.

The downside to these changes is that the queue may seem to be less able to predict what behavior you were after. Or it may require a few extra clicks to save leveling pets as themselves. Or you may need to "restart" a leveling slot if you had to logout or reload while you were out leveling on wide pets. My hope is that these inconveniences will be minor compared to the benefits of a much more reliable, flexible and predictable queue.

Also, unrelated to the queue, but an update on Rematch 5:

Some are aware I've been working on a major update of this addon over the past few months. 5.x will not be nearly as drastic a UI change as the 3.x to 4.x update was, but it's a dramatic improvement in the addon's design and extensibility.

The goals of 5.x are:
- Remove unnecessary fluff that's no longer relevant. Like the pullout "current leveling pet" slot and pullout loaded team bit are definitely going.
- "Flatten" the UI to make it more ammenable to skinning and reduce frame/texture use.
- Offload parts some users may never use to a load-on-demand module. This may include the collection stats, win records, import/export/sharing, the safari hat reminder thing, etc.
- Allow outside modules to add their own tabs and add their own stats to pet cards. Such as a separate module to track the battle success of all of your individual pets.
- Allow a single team to store multiple targets. So if you have one team you use for many tamers you don't need to save a copy for each tamer.
- A "team builder" mode that lets you build teams without actually owning the pets.
- No more sanctuary system. This may or may not require Rematch have its own breed module, but instead of recording stats it will attach only the breed with the teams and the leveling queue.
- And a very big goal, to make 5.0 have a smaller operational footprint than 4.5. While I'm pleased overall with 4.x's size given all it can do, getting rid of fluff and offloading stuff to load-on-demand will produce a more compact and efficient addon.

I've been having a blast working on it. I very much wanted to get it ready for Legion because its layout system is much, much better. But unfortunately it's not going to make it. Once Legion launches I'll be spending my free time playing WoW more than working on addons. More critically, as the weeks leading up to the pre-patch approached, I was copy-pasting 4.x code left and right to make the deadline and the old and new methods just aren't compatable and all the gimmicks to get it to work was definitely failing the major goals of 5.x. So...it's not completely back to the drawing board, but I'm going to make sure 5.x is done properly. All the 4.x code is being ripped out and I'm reverting back to code from May/June for a total rewrite. So it will definitely take a few more months still, especially with the expansion later this month.

So for those I've told I was unlikely to make major changes to 4.x to spend time on 5.x, I'm now shifting support focus back to 4.x and 5.x will be a work in progress with an ETA of later this year.

Fortunately no addon is needed for that. The game has a couple built-in macro commands:

To summon a random pet among all your pets:
/randompet

To summon a random pet among your favorites:
/randomfavoritepet
(or /rfp)

Question Random pet / favorite pet macro

As you have the functions in the addon for random pet and random fav pet, is it possible to access these funcations from a macro so I can place a button on my action bars?

For team notes, the Backup All Teams option in the Teams menu will backup team notes along with the teams. And exporting/sending teams to others will now include the option to include notes.

For pet notes, there's no in-game method to back those up. All non-team saved stuff (including the leveling queue, pet notes, options, etc) can only be backed up by backing up the WTF file. This is unlikely to change I'm afraid.
Thanks for the update, it was the answer I was expecting :/ but hoped otherwise.

I recently had a HDD failure that wiped out all my custom notes. I was able to retrieve my teams because I had shared them with a friend, but all my notes of which pet had an identical moveset to what other pet was gone. Is there a way to back this up?

That's a lot of work lost. I've not had any other reports of this. Do changes in options seem to get forgotten too? If it's not even writing teams to WTF, then it's unlikely to be writing settings either.

I'll think on potential causes. So far my only guesses would be apparent in other addons not saving their settings either.

I created all the teams for doing Celestials. Created each team, did a "save as" for each new team and set them up with the correct "notworthy" Celestial target.... I SAW the saved teams.

Just a heads up that since the views seem more or less set now, I'll be doing another bit of refactoring to streamline the code and make it more extensible. Some things will be going away. I'm warning about these in advance in case anyone really really (really!) wants them to stay:

The "Current Leveling Pet" pullout at the top of the queue will be removed. It doesn't always reflect the most preferred pet in the queue, the "current leveling pet" doesn't have the meaning it once did since "top of the queue" became fixed, and it is actually rather a lot of code to support its potential use (since it's not only for display purposes but it's intended to allow dropping a pet onto the "slot" to move a pet to the top of the queue).

The "Loaded Team" pullout at the top of the team list will be removed. This is not really necessary since all views of the addon show the loaded team above the loadout slots (except for single panel options views when it's not important) with full right-click menu support and left-click to reload (which was the original intent of that pullot team).

The option "Move Panel Tabs To The Right" will be going away and instead panel tabs (this is the "Pets" "Teams" "Queue" "Options" tabs across the bottom) will move to the side the standalone anchor is pointed to; except for the journal view which will always be on the right. While left-aligned tabs is the overwhelming norm, it's just too useful to have tabs on the right when the window is anchored to the right so it can toggle open/closed without tabs jumping across the screen. This will also allow a couple new anchors ("Top" and "Bottom") without the need for extra options so panel tabs will be centered instead of left/right aligned.

The "Minimal Minimized Window" will be replaced with "Hide Panel Tabs While Minimized" and the titlebar will always remain when the standalone window is minimized. Hiding the titlebar was achieved by breaking apart the frame into pieces. There was intended to be more work done with that separate-titlebar business but it didn't work out. The option to remove it is being removed for several reason: it's rather a lot of unnecessary stuff that's carried around in all standalone views whether someone used this option or not, the inset maximize/close buttons leave very little room for the loaded team, the lock button is missing in that view, there's unavoidable "dead click space" where the titlebar would be that you can't click through and a person can unintentionally move the frame, the little overlap of drop shadow from the two overlapping pieces annoys me, and it looks awful in all the skinned versions of this addon to have that blank background across the top where the titlebar should be.

These changes will likely be with the launch of the Legion pre-patch. The existing live version will probably see little changes until then.

For any curious, today's update (4.3.7) is not for the Legion beta. It's for the normal live game.

On the Legion beta I'm experiencing crash bugs related to HybridScrollFrames that will require some further research. I hope to have a Legion-ready update this weekend. It will be posted on wowinterface when that happens and I'll post a comment about it here too.

Thanks for the link. I'll look into doing the same treatment that it does now for the aurora extra textures to fix those buttons.

edit: I like this skin. It doesn't want to mess up my UI like the others do. And Adapt's square portraits works perfectly in it.
