FauxMazzle Beta
Version: 1.0.0 Beta 12a
by: Fizzlemizz [More]
For most designated [wide] resolutions up to 1920x1200.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*** FauxMazzle and Warlords of Draenor Beta:
Blizzard has enabled addons in the beta but out-of-date addons are still disabled. Once out-of-date addons are enabled I will create a WoD beta page for FauxMazzle when I can find enough working addons to make it worthwhile.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Many thanks to the generosity of Elcarath for allowing 3 very cool skins to be added to this project.

Changed in Beta 12a
  • Fixed Omen/Recount toggle hotspot error (/fm of a single character will implement this particular fix for all).
Changed in Beta 12
*** Requires a re-FauxMazzling (/fm or /fauxmazzle) of all characters for the chat frame changes, sorry .
  • Chat frame configurations have changed to allow the combat log to work properly
  • Removed ArkInventory from the package and /fm options window (All FauxMazzle did was position the frames, you can do that with your favourite bag addon ).
  • Fixed, HUD (DMB/Pet cutout specifically) to work properly for low level characters.
  • Changed, HUD Druid mana bar behaviour. Druids with quest pets, the bar will always show mana level while in cat/bear form and will change to pet health when not in cat/bear form.
  • Moved the Quartz cast bars above the boss frames.
  • Fixed chat font scaling when choosing between Eagle Eye, Normal, Large and Magoo size. Will look to extending this beyond just the chat frames in future builds.
  • Fixed handling of /FM OOC100.
  • Fix to DUF means unit damage overlay texts now display.
  • Dominos pet and Autobar class bars should now align properly when selecting the 12 button action bar option.
  • Added HitsMode5 for combat text (will need some more tweeking).
  • Added Scrolling Combat Text (might need some more tweeking).
  • Update to fading of combat log and loot frame texts.
  • Increased size of DUF buff and debuff timer texts, all frames, (will look at adjusting this with the chat font selection size (eagle eye/magoo etc.)).
  • Tweeks and twiddles I didn't log.
  • Known latest versions of Addons included.
End of changes.

What is FauxMazzle?
FauxMazzle is a look and feel tribute to MazzleFizz's once great MazzleUI that sadly didn't make it out of the Burning Crusade.

What do you get?
  • Background textures that although not Mazz's, I consider are a reasonable approximation. If you have the textures from the original MazzleUI (including those from other authors that were part of the pack), they should also work with FauxMazzle. If you do have Mazzlefizz's original textures please DO NOT publish/upload/share them, Mazzlefizz was very specific about the use of his code and art.
  • 3 additional skins from the original compilation, courtesy of Elcarath (see the screenshots).
  • An in-game configuration dialog for the "configurable" addons listed.
  • The ability to choose your own replacement addons (which you will have to configure yourself).
  • The ability to switch off/on configuration of individual addons should you want to make and preserve your own changes or play around and then re-apply the default settings.
  • The joy of once again seeing a cool MazzleUI style layout without hours (and hours and ....) of fiddling around.
  • The ability to have this quick, easy setup for all your characters new and old.

Suspiciously Missing!
FauxMazzle does not include a bag or data broker/information bar addon.
There are many flavours of both these types of addons available at WoWInterface.com, choose the one that works best for you.

How do I use FauxMazzle?
  • Download FauxMazzle
  • Exit the game.
  • Rename or move elsewhere the WTF folder at [Drive]:\[Programs Files]\World of Warcraft\WTF.
  • Move elsewhere all the folders (or at least the ones not on the list below) from [Drive]:\[Programs Files]\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\.
  • Unzip the FauxMazzle .zip file and copy the newly extracted addons to the folder [Drive]:\[Programs Files]\World of Warcraft\Interface\Addons\.
  • Start the game and at the character selection screen press the "AddOns" button (lower left corner) and check the "Load out of date AddOns" box (the first time you run FauzMazzle configuration tool (/FM) you will be warned to do this even if you have already done so).
  • Enter the world and type /FM . The configuration window should have boxes ticked for the addons you have installed.
  • Check/Uncheck boxes for the addons you do/don't want configured.
  • Press the Gears button and let FauxMazzle grind into place a bright new interface for your character to take on the world (of Warcraft).

Where's my game menu and where are my bags?
  • Move the mouse to the right hand side of your screen just above the background artwork and your MicroMenu will appear.
  • Move the mouse just above MicroMenu and your bags will appear.

Slash commands.
  • /FM or /FAUZMAZZLE - Open the FauxMazzle configuration window.
  • /FM OOCnn - Where nn is a number between 0 and 100. Set the out-of-combat alpha for the player portion of the hud.

Hi Excelis, thank you for your thoughts and comments.

You never know what impact adding the "next great thing" is going have . I originally started with boss frames down the right hand side and have been thinking about putting them back there or anchored somehwere to the right of the HUD so they don't disappear out of eyesight. Maybe make all three positions an option or .... .

I can't help but wonder if it wouldn't work better just having the regular old Blizzard boss badges stacked over on the right side.

Looking forward to what you've tweaked in lucky 13. :-)

I did lower the font size in Tiptac to 11. I also set the anchor point to bottom left to allow for a bit more consistent layout. Personal preference, perhaps.
For the next Beta build (lucky 13), if your screen is wider than 1920, you will have the option to pick from a 1.6 or 1.8 layout (with a no guarantee proviso ).

"bottom left" Do you mean your tooltips display over the general chatframe space? MazzleUI defaulted them to left (half way up the left hand side of the screen) which is where I've always placed them. I couldn't find them if they were anywhere else .

I've also added a GUI to /fm for setting HUD options (scale, offset, colours, fonts etc.). Still needs a bit of work before the next beta release.

The font sizing (eagle eye to magoo) has already been fixed for the next release, I'm not sure when it broke.

I've come across something strange with the combat log but I'm not sure what's effecting it. On servers with both high and low level characters it works fine. On servers with only low level characters it pretty much doubles in width and randomly hides/displays (especially with a druid when it shapeshifts). Going to be an interesting one to resolve.

I'll see what I can do with larger resolutions.

I'll probably take bags out altogether as everyone has their preferences in this regard (I like the single bag approach) and all FauxMazzle does with ArkInventory is position it. It's the reason I didn't include a data broker/info bar, there's lots out there and everyone has their favourite. I haven't used one since MazzleUI died.

Edit: Testing on beta and with the ability pruning, it might be a hard slog to fill out the 14 button layout . I will keep the option to use it. If WoW keeps making money I'm sure Bizzard will add more abilities with more xpacs.

I step way from WOW for a week or so and... updates. Thanks for the rapid responsive development!

A few comments...

Running a 2560x1600 widescreen and looking at going wider, I like the 14 buttons per row.

Can we change /fm so it does not totally block you out with a non supported resolution? Either use a similar ratio, 16:10/1.6 in my case, or just let player pick another resolution config to use with a warning?

I did lower the font size in Tiptac to 11. I also set the anchor point to bottom left to allow for a bit more consistent layout. Personal preference, perhaps.

I lowered the prat font size to 11 for all the left side chat windows. I'm not sure if the /fm size setting did not work or I just didn't know what to expect from "eagle eye" vs. "normal". Could we use real numbers here?

The combat log is always wonky for me after /fm. I have to turn on tabs, find it in the middle of the screen or left side tabs (it seems to move when I unlocked it via tab), make it interactive, lay it out in the lower right, un-interactive it and turn off the tab. Perhaps this an artifact of some saved server side setting.

Duf. I bumped up self, party and pet buff/debuff timers to 10 pt font and turned off :ss display. Probably a few others as I notice them. Raiding, it's nice to see these quickly and easily. Probably due to my resolution.

Bags. I used Tbag-Shefki. Not updated in a while, but works fine. To me, the perfect combo of easy categories and all-in-one bag. Not too fancy, but also not one giant sack o' stuff. Also lets you search inventory across all toons bank/bags/mail, highlight recent items and a bit more.

I'm a bit of an info junkie. I run an autohide broker bar on top edge of screen, Chocolate Bar. Works very well.

Enough for now. All in all, awesome UI I'll definitely be using for a long time.

I'll check the class bar and set it to fill right to left (which I should have don in the first place, oops).

It looks like MMK forgot to include MuffinLibPTSets, maybe next time .

Speaking of AutoBar. Looks like a new release was just posted with some fixes. Except it's missing a dependacy.

Now that Omen and Recount have been moved, the right of the Focus Frame should be clear. I have BNet_Toast and Loot frames over that way but thay are closer to the top of the right castle.

Autobar isn't showing the level 90 Health and I think, Mana potions and quite possibly a few others, I haven't checked everything.

I'm glad you have your mail working cheers.

And thank you for all your help. Now I just have to level a character to find at which level Blizzard stops screwing with ChatFrame2, the combat log .

Do you know if you have any elements to the right of the focus frame? I'd like to find a nice empty spot of about 2"x3" to set up my MageNugget elements and I'd like fairly close to my toon.

Again, thanks for all your work.

P.S. You said AutoBar doesn't show level 90 pots or did you mean flasks? I'm fairly sure I had it showing both (Potion of the Jade Serpent and Flask of the Warm Sun) in my previous setup.

I'll put MuzzleFud back in his box .

I think you must have something else going on, I don't get an italicised mail font with just the addons in the FM pack and the few others I listed before, none of which do anything with fonts.

I don't know if MMK is doing anything with AB, I haven't visited his board in quite a while.

I'll see if I can find a place for the SB button and add show/hide option to the setup.

Thank you again.

I think that it comes from DBM and I also think it can be made visible by using /range when you have DBM installed.

I'll pull out tektickles and look at the tooltip again. Is there any other way you know that I can get that horrible italics font off my in-game mail besides a font manager like tekticles?

I think I've used AutoBar since soon after it was first release. I have a certain affection for it. Is MuffinmanKen actively working on the issues? I can live with it as is for now but it sure would be awesome to have it all fresh and clean for WoD.

I wasn't clear with my Smartbuff comment. What I meant is that I like to use the action button rather than the mouse scroll button. It's the action button that I would like placed and turned on by default.

Thank you again Excelis for the great feedback.
  • Boss frames I can either raise them level with boss1 and a bit more spread out, stack them vertically to the left and/or right of screen, or I can raise the quartz cast bars. I'll have a play around. EDIT: Raised the Quartz bars, moving the boss frames was making things look messier than they already are.
  • The tooltips/packaged addons haven't changed since beta 1 so it might be an additional addon. Edit: Try removing Tektickles and see if the tooltips revert back.
  • The range information between the two topmost points of the HUD? The only other place to put it would be between the two lower points. I could probably make it an option (somehow I'm starting to feel like this could turn into a pages of witty questions setup process and that I'll end up with a grumpy hoof waving Tauren called MuzzleFud at the top of it ).
  • Autobar is at best flawed because of the mix of Ace2 and Ace3 libraries, it doesn't show level 90 pots for some reason (I know their item IDs are in the AB lookup table) as well as various other things. I will need a replacement if MuffinmanKen can't get it working properly.
  • The pet/class bars will need adjusting with the 12 button layout but that had been added just prior to the Beta 11 release so, still to come.
  • SmartBuff is on by default. The config opens after a character is FauxMazzled and reloaded for the first time. Interesting that of all the addon minimap buttons Bagnon lists, Smartbuff isn't one of them.
  • Loot information goes the the right hand frame of the two in the lower portion of the right castle. The information fades (which I'm thinking of disabling) but should be retrievable by scrolling the frame.

I think all in all I had a very successful test. Most my difficulties were with my placement of my MageNuggets bars. I'll have to keep working at those but it's hard since I don't know what's going to pop up where. There used to be a configuration addon that would activate EVERYTHING with one test button push. I think it stopped being maintain but I'll look around and see if I can find it. Maybe it will still work.

Anyway some things I noticed in no particular order:
  • When more than two bosses the player and pet cast bars are being covered by the boss window. And speaking of those boss UFs I noticed that during the Fallen Protectors that sometimes the names didn't match the mob they were showing. This was during or right after the Embodied Misery/Sorrow/Gloom/Anguish/Despair/Desperation.
  • The Tooltip seems unusually large. Or maybe it was just the text in the tooltip that was causing the tooltip to look unusually large.
  • This might just be because I added DBM but the Range Radar isn't in a good place at all.
  • AutoBar would use a few tweaks I think. Hearthstone, Farm, and Potion buttons would be nice. Especially the potions button so I can pre-pot and pot.
  • Using the 2 bar X 12 button layout (thanks for this) the pet bar looks like it's hanging two buttons too far to the left.
  • I think you should consider turning SmartBuff on by default and placing it's button in a nice safe spot. I put it to the left of the minimap and in line with the pet bar. It seemed to work okay there but I'm unsure.

P.S. I like the way you did the chat tabs. And their configuration seem fine to me. Maybe you could look at adding one more tab for Loot so it would be possible to scroll back to see who got what but I don't think it's very necessary.
