My Grid2 Setup

Version: 1.5
by: Jasmer [More]

I have resubbed and will be updating this as I make changes. Let me know if anything isn't right, or any important hots and such aren't being tracked that should be tracked.

NOTE THAT THIS IS PACKAGED WRONG, AND I'M TOO LAZY TO FIX IT. I THINK YOU'RE SMART ENOUGH TO FIGURE OUT MY MISTAKE, JUST MANUALLY COPY GRID2, SHARED MEDIA, ETC TO YOUR ADDONS FOLDER.

ATTENTION REALUI USERS: THIS VERSION IS NO LONGER COMPATIBLE WITH REALUI. A NEW VERSION HAS BEEN UPLOADED HERE.

This isn't an addon per se, just my Grid2 saved variables, still a work in progress. I use RealUI specifically, and wanted more from the healer layout. Mine is loosely based on Meluda's Grid2 layout.

WARNING: STILL VERY MUCH A WORK IN PROGRESS. Let me know if any important spells are missing or could be better displayed.

Layout includes 3 indicators on the left side of the frame, each of these also have duration text.

Top left has an additional duration text for Rejuvination (Germination).

On the bottom center there are two square indicators, tracking some misc class buffs like Beacons, Ironbark, etc.

Name is located at the bottom right, only displaying the first 4 letters. Name text is white by default, and changes color according to dispellable debuff--purple for curse, blue for magic, brown for disease, green for poison.

Right side also has a status text indicator to let you know if the unit is offline, afk, has a pending resurrection, dead, feign death, in a vehicle, or charmed. It also displays absorbs.

Top right corner has a dungeon role indicator for tanks and heals, as well as a raid lead/assist indicator.

Center icon tracks ready check status and raid debuff.

Border highlight shows target, aggro, AoE highlighter, and Wild Growth.

Incoming heals indicator has no threshold and might be too distracting for some. It's easily disabled, instructions below.

NOTE: I use RealUI, and this profile is designed to match. I have included the necessary resources for this to work reasonably well without RealUI, but if it still looks wrong please let me know.

CURRENTLY SUPPORTS
Holy Paladin
Resto Druid
Resto Shaman

WIP
Mistweaver Monk
Disc and Holy Priest

KNOWN BUGS
Text indicators might need to be slightly adjusted. If they are wonky, too large, whatever, open up Grid2's options (/grid2), click indicators, click the offending indicator (usually it's the name one), then click the layout tab. Set the font to AlterEbro pixel font. It's ridiculously tiny, can't miss it. Indicator fonts might be weird as well. I cannot fix this, the problem exists due to constantly switching between RealUI and default UI to maintain two versions of this layout.

Text indicator border might disappear. I don't know why, it doesn't do it to me on the default UI or with RealUI but it's been reported. Follow the instructions above, and ensure font outline is set to "Sharp, Thin".

Updating Grid2 will result in an ugly shadow on your text. You can update Grid2 yourself if that tickles your pickle but you'll have to add Text:SetShadowOffset(0,0) to line 114 or thereabouts in Grid2>Modules>IndicatorText.lua.

DIRECTIONS
There are two folders included in this archive--Interface and SavedVariables.

1.) Back up your Interface and WTF\Account\ACCOUNTNAME\SavedVariables folders.

2.) Copy Grid2 and SharedMedia to your Addons folder. If you already use SharedMedia, manually drag the fonts from my SharedMedia_MyMedia to your own and run sharedmedia.bat again to add them to yours without overwriting any of your settings.

3.) Copy Grid2.lua to WTF\Account\ACCOUNTNAME\SavedVariables. Overwrite where prompted.

4.) Select profile "RealUI-Healing".

You will need to re-position your Grid2 frames manually. I play with RealUI, which automagically positions and dynamically resizes Grid2. On the default UI it's somewhere behind my action bars. I've no intention of ever remedying this as there are too many effctive and useful raid frame placements for me to possibly please everyone.

Grid2 is fairly easy to configure and largely self explanatory. Enabling tracking is as simple as opening up Grid2's options, selecting the indicator in question, and unticking anything you don't want to see. You can change a lot of colors around this way too (i.e. class colored health to health-current color instead and vice versa for health deficit).

MORE INFO HERE.

Note I cannot troubleshoot Grid2 itself, as I can't LUA my way out of a paper bag. Any issues with Grid2 should be reported to its author.

1.5
Separated RealUI and non-RealUI versions. RealUI-compatible version is now uploaded to the RealUI page as an optional patch.
Added absorb tracking to status text. Needs a bit of testing. Disabled illuminated healing, can be re-enabled in statuses>health&heals>shields.
Enabled incoming heals indicator. No threshold, so will probably be spammy with hots. Also displays inc. player heals.
Added Wild Growth to border indicator. Not ideal, but it'll do for now.
Once again not fully tested, please report any bugs or malfunctions.

1.4.2
Changed Rejuvination (Germination) to track by SpellID. May or may not actually fix it not working.

1.4.1
Re-upload to fix RealUI compatibility because I'm blonde.

1.4
Swapped bar colors AGAIN. This is the last time (maybe).
Added Grid2 with text shadowing removed.
Changed name font to alterebro pixel font. Most special alt characters are now working. License included.
Added SharedMedia and SharedMedia_MyMedia for proper font display without RealUI.
Changed bar textures to Grid2 Flat for proper display without RealUI.
Removed rage/energy/chi/etc indicator, power bar now only tracks mana.

1.3
Swapped bar colors--dark health, class colored deficit. Updated guide on download page for changing these around.
Changed names back to class color, moved cleansable debuff indicator to border. Let me know if this is too messy for you.

Added Holy and Disc Priest support:
Prayer of Mending
Power Word: Shield
Renew
Guardian Spirit
Pain Suppression
Power Word: Barrier
I HAVE NO WAY TO TEST PRIEST PROFILE AT THE MOMENT. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF ANYTHING IS MISSING OR POORLY PLACED. Weakened Soul might show up on all profiles, but it has low priority and will be overwritten by your class-specific indicators. I left Weakened Soul text off for this reason, to avoid confusion. It's located on the same indicator as Power Word: Shield, and will show up if PW:Shield expires early.

1.2
Added Shaman support--Riptide and Earth Shield
Added Rejuvination (Germination) for resto druid. It's a countdown timer right next to the original rejuv counter.
I HAVE NO WAY TO TEST THESE TWO CHANGES AT THE MOMENT, PLEASE REPORT BUGS.

1.1
Unit name white by default to make certain cleanse indicators easier to see on mage, warlock, and warrior.

I think I'm gonna start uploading two versions of this--one for RealUI onto that respective UI's page as an optional patch, and one here strictly for non-RealUI users. I foresee too many problems trying to make it compatible with the default UI AND RealUI's addon control settings. vswifty I'll see what I can do for your indicators tonight since I have some free time.

How would you feel about shield indicators overlaying the health bar? If it will work the way I think it might, it could be an overly that shows, possibly with text (but probably not) how much effective shield is left. Kinda similar to the way the default raid frames do it (e.g. Malkorok encounter).

[Edit] Status text now tracks absorbs at highest priority. I haven't been able to test it in combat though. Will upload shortly.

3) Is there any way to display the amount of healing that'll be done with HOTs? and to show effective shields from priests?

Thanks!
There should be an outline around the indicator text already. If it isn't there open Grid2 and go to the indicator in question, there will be two tabs in that indicator's options. Click the "layout" tab, look for the font settings and make sure the outline is set. It should use a hard outline, I believe I used thin, not soft.

I think I had wild growth tracked on the border with incoming heals, but it was catching ALL incoming heals obviously so I disabled the tracking. I think Grid2 innately tracks wild growth through AoE modules. I don't track incoming heals but there is an AoE highlighter set to the border. When you mouse over a unit the borders highlight in blue nearby units.

Alternatively I could add a Wild Growth indicator, just not sure where to put it.

As for amount of healing, you'd have to add an incoming heals text indicator. I could add one as an option, disabled by default, with instructions on enabling it. And for effective shield, I could change the duration text for shields to %, and leave weakened soul as a timer. I would probably have to move the indicator though.

I'll see what I can do this weekend if I have time, but possibly not until Monday.

Updated with priest additions. Also made some changes, see change log. Updated screens.

Power Word Shield will only show if cast by the player. Weakend Soul theoretically should only show for priest players, but I'm not sure and can't test it. All the same I've given it lowest priority and no text counter so if it does show up it will be overwritten by any other class spell tracked by the same indicator.

I saw you were requesting some ideas on what abilities healing Priests need to track; mine is still leveling, but here's a few that I think would be useful (a veteran Priest will need to tell us):
  • Prayer of Mending (both specs)
  • Power Word: Shield (both specs)
  • Renew (Holy)
  • Guardian Spirit (Holy)
  • Pain Suppression (Discipline)
  • Power Word: Barrier (Discipline)
But like I said, I'm still leveling my Priest so can't make any authoritative suggestions.
Awesome. I'll see about getting a priest profile so you can get some use from it. I do have a level 30ish priest so I can actually test some of these.

That's what I thought, it just seems like so few, and so many indicators left. I can probably get those added today then. Anything else? I've never played resto or payed much attention to the class in general.
