Removes chat frame clutter and adds some functionality.

Shortens chat channel names
Shortens cross-realm character names and Real ID player names
Replaces Real ID player names and BattleTags with WoW character names
Enables arrow keys without the Alt key
Enables resizing chat frames by their edges
Makes all channels sticky
If a channel is sticky, then after talking in that channel, the chat input box will open to the same chat type again, rather than making you type “/g” or “/ra” again.
Makes URLs clickable for easy copying
Moves the input box above the chat frame
Sets the delay time for chat text fading
Stops docked chat tabs from being dragged
Hides the scroll, menu, and social buttons
Hides extra textures on chat frames
Hides the flashing effect on chat tabs
Hides channel notification messages
Hides repeated messages in public channels
Enables class colored names in all channels with a single click
Changes the text size in all chat frames from a single control

Options & Commands

Type “/pchat” for options, or find them in the Interface Options.
Type “/pchat clear” to clear all chat windows.
Type “/tt" or “/wt” to send a whisper to your current target.

Some additional options, such as customizing which channels are made sticky and what abbreviations are used for channel names, are available by editing the Core.lua file in a plain-text editor such as Notepad. If you break something, download a fresh copy and try again.

Feature Requests

I consider PhanxChat to be complete, and do not plan to add any new features. If you would like to suggest something anyway, feel free to submit a suggestion ticket describing your idea.

The following features will never be added to PhanxChat. Requests for these features will be deleted, so please just don’t ask!

Due to file changes, you should completely uninstall your existing copy of the addon before installing this version. Removing your old saved variables is recommended, but not required.
This is a full rewrite of PhanxChat. It is now semi-modular, so it should be much easier for me to maintain. The old single-file organization was becoming quite unwieldy.
Added a Shorten Player Names feature, which shortens player names by removing realm names from cross-realm players and last names from Real ID players.
Removed the Auto Start Chat Log feature, because I never used it.
Removed the Color Player Names feature, because it was just too much code and performance overhead to color the very few types of messages that the default UI doesn’t already color, and also confused all the <insert adjective here> people who never read patch notes or change logs.
Advanced Configuration has been revamped. Options relevant to individual modules are in the appropriate module file, not in the Core file.
All existing translations for the configuration UI have been discarded, since none of them had been updated since the transition from slash commands to a GUI over a year ago. If you can provide translations for any locale, please send me a PM.
Additionally, several chat channels are currently only shortened in English locales, because nobody has provided translations for them. If you see a channel name that isn’t shortened, please report: your locale (eg. "deDE"), the English name of the channel (eg. "General"), the localized name of the channel (eg. "Allgemein"), and an appropriate short form for your locale (eg. "A").

Everything is working fine if I don't add/change anything at all and use the default settings. Channels would show up as:
2| Branchy: This is text

If I add the "%s" right after %d, the channels show up as:
2| Branchy: This is text

There's no change at all.

As far as I know I'm using English on the US Servers. My locale on my config.wtf is set to enUS.

I tried without modifying the substitutions from just copying the folder from the download. However, you have the default CHANNEL_STYLE as just "%d." so I have to add a %s. The channel name isn't showing up even then.

I'm having problems with shortened channel names.

For some reason the %s in the Channel Style is not getting substituted. I have it set as "[%d.%s" and I've tried changing it to just "%s" and other variations and nothing seems to work. Everything else works except %s. I've also tried a fresh install and only added %s to the CHANNEL_STYLE and still it didn't substitute.

What's wrong? I have no other AddoOns enabled.

EnhancedColorPicker, ColorTools, etc. all add "copy" and "paste" buttons, as well as RGB and hex input, to the color picker. As far as I know they're all "out of date" but should work just fine, since the color picker hasn't been changed since the dawn of WoW.

Well, the really strange thing is that yesterday I seem to have solved it in an incomprehensible way. I've been wanting to change the instance chat/leader colours to the same colours used for party chat/leader, mostly because I'm a ismple creature of habit and can't get used to the raid colours in my dungeon group. Anywho, after some searching for a way to exactly copy the colours (instead of having to guess with the coloured circle) I dove into some chat file and manually altered the RGB coding.
Now here's the weird thing... ever since I edited that file and changed a few numbers, the class colours have been showing perfectly fine again. I've no idea what happened, perhaps editing that file reset something that had been a bit buggy, but I wanted to let you know nonetheless. And then I come here and see you wrote a whole post trying to help me, which I really appreciate but no longer seems to be necessary.

Thank you for your effort and the time you took, both with my issue as well as with the addon as a whole. It's still one of my favourites, and I already made sure to download the 5.2 version. ^^

When you check the box in PhanxChat's options, it checks and then disables all of the boxes in the Blizzard chat options. When you uncheck the PhanxChat box, it enables and unchecks all of the Blizzard boxes. When you log in, the function corresponding to the current state of the PhanxChat box gets called, so all of the Blizzard boxes get checked or unchecked depending on whether you have the PhanxChat box checked. If you uncheck the PhanxChat box, you can toggle individual channels in the Blizzard options, but your changes will be overridden next time you log in. This is slightly confusing, so I'm going to change it to be less confusing; the Blizzard boxes will always be disabled, with tooltips explaining that you should use the PhanxChat box instead, since I can't think of a reason why you'd want class colors in some channels but not others. However, I'm not seeing that Instance Chat is treated any differently from any other chat type. When I check the box in PhanxChat, the Instance Chat box in the Blizzard options gets checked and disabled. When I uncheck the PhanxChat box, the Blizzard Instance Chat box gets enabled and unchecked. Player names in the Instance Chat channel seem to be colored or not colored as expected. The only thing I can think of is that there is something wrong with one or more files on your hard disk that are storing settings for PhanxChat and/or WoW. You can either delete them all at once, or start at the top of the list and continue only if the problem continues: World of Warcraft > Cache Yes, the entire directory. This will not affect anything. *World of Warcraft > WTF > Account > 123456#1* > SavedVariables > PhanxChat.lua This will reset your PhanxChat settings. World of Warcraft > WTF > Account > 123456#1 > RealmName > CharacterName > chat-cache.txt This will reset your Blizzard chat frame settings -- tabs, channel colors, etc. Remember to completely exit WoW before deleting any of those files.
