2.4 version of awesomeness is out
It works. Not configurable at all, though, but it works.
WTF is AutoWhiner?
AutoWhiner whines when important things happens. Important things includes trap resists, a mob being immune to Mind Control, a sheep that got resisted, a taunt/growl that screwed up somehow - stuff you want to know that is sort of hard to detect while being stepped on and generally harassed quite a lot by, say, a nasty boss.
Optional Files - Auto Whiner
Sorry, there are currently no optional files available.
I definately agree that it should be possible to use other mods to display the whines. I've never touched the Ace framework and it's libraries, so I would never have though of using LibSink - thanks! I'll take a look at it, seems like the way to go if it's as easy to use as you suggest.
Also, it's nice to see that I'm not the only person caring about this addon =)
Nice to finally see this back after the WoW 2.4 combat log changes.
As has been previously discussed here, a tip for implementation of support of different "scrolling text"-type mods when you provide that functionality again.
No need to add "adapters" (as mentioned in the TODO) and have to update that support when the mods change. Just tie into the standalone LibSink-2.0 library.
That library provides built-in output support for mods to most all of the different scrolling text mods (MikSBT, SCT, Parrot, etc.), the default Blizzard outputs (raid warning frame, error frame, Blizzard FCT, chat) or any other channel the user wants. Its also updated when the Blizzard/ the mods it supports change.
I've been thinking of adding MSBT and SCT, so why not Parrot too. And now that you can alert to raid - alerting to multiple channels. Perhaps one drop-down for outbound and one drop-down for internal? Wouldn't rock with both raid and raidwarning.
What exactly is Parrot, though? The page you linked aint exactly informing =/
I actually got back to working on it couple of days ago =) It can now alert to MSBT, raids (and party if not in raid) and raid warnings.
I'm having some issues with raid parsing, though. It works _perfectly_ in parties, but I simply don't know what event to parse to be able to parse raids. I've heard there's gonna be some fixes in next major patch, but it should be possible to fetch it anyway. Working on it!
Great mod, but error that occurs continually in raids (meaning any instance party greater than 5-man): "AutoWhiner\\autowhiner_utils.lua:223: table index is nil".
Feature request:
Alert on resists/misses for the player's pet's abilities. On my hunter, it'd be very useful for it to alert me when my boar's growl is resisted.
Zidomo: I made one of those addons myself - Meat Shield - that alerted to public channels when taunts got resisted etc. But I didn't really like the way it spammed in public, and after rewriting it a couple of times, I ended up with this current solution, which works great imo.
And not sure what happened to the _beta1.zip, the _beta2.zip works fine though. Just so you know: the rule for folder name is to call it the same as the .toc - in other words "autowhiner". Not sure if it's case sensitive, but I think it is.
Both of ya: I've been thinking about adding this as an option, yes. This is my current list of "wanted alert channels":
party
raid
raid warning
SCT and MSBT
Putting it to the blizzard channels is easy mode. The problem, though, is that I personally don't like spamming public channels. People might have their own addons for this, and it can soon become messy if multiple people with multiple different addons spams in public. But I guess I'll just as well add it, why not =)
And both SCT and MSBT has API's that makes it very easy to alert to them too.
Configuring where to alert is the thingie I'm currently working on, so expect to see this within a week or two.
Haven't tried it out, but I'm wondering if this supports SCT and MSBT. I could see myself running this and putting the alerts into a scroll area, if that's the case.
Nice idea. There are many addons that allow party/raid chat notification of things like a warrior using last stand & the like (Tankalyze , etc.), but nothing I've seen that has as many different alert types as this.
Two things. Will there be in the future party/raid alerts for some of the things this tracks? Adding such alerts removes the need for tank-oriented alert mods like the one linked above.
And the current "autowhiner_beta1.zip" does not contain folder paths when it really should. I assume the end folder location should be "Autowhiner"? Or is it "AutoWhiner"? Hard to tell from the TOC.
