ProfessionLinks   Popular!
Rate: 5 out of 5 with 2 votes
ProfessionLinks is a simple addons, that is very similar to EnchantMe, but where as EnchantMe only contains enchants, ProfessionLinks contains all professions.

The addon presents you with a list of all the items that can be made, and enables you to see the tooltip for it, and link it by holding down the shift key, and clicking the link.

The addon tries to warn the user for potential disconnects, if the items being created or the reagents required are not in the local cache, but still enables the user to force the tooltip to show (thus with a possibility of a disconnect), by holding down the alt key, and the move the mouse over the line.

NOTE: The addon contains information about all patterns currently in the game, meaning all patterns you'll find when looking on WoW DB sites, such as thottbot and wowhead. This means it also contains some patterns that are no longer active or have never been active, which will never be safe to view, as the items they create or the reagents used might not be available in the game.

To show the ProfessionLinks window:
/professionlinks
/pl

From version 2.2 and on, ProfessionLinks now supports automatic translation to your current locale. To translate, run the following command (only need to do this once):
/pl translate

It will take around 10-30 second to translate (time depends on your frame rate, as I translate a few each frame, to not completely stall the client or cause a disconnect).

Note: Have only tested the translation on the English, German and French version of the game, so no idea of Asian languages will work.

Changelog:
2.03.00
* Release for WoW 2.3
* Added the new recipes from WoW 2.3
* Added French, German and Spanish translation
* Removed the "do it yourself translation" option, since the anti-flood protection introduced with 2.2.3 broke it. Note: The same anti-flood protection can still disconnect you in 2.3, if you request infor about several recipes, for which you don't have the items cached.
2.02.00
* Release for WoW 2.2
* Added an "All" category
* Added search box
* Added localization support
* Removed the "not cached" warning, as WoW 2.2 no longer disconnects you if trying to view recipes with items not loaded.
2.01.00
* Initial release

TradeSkillInfo now supports deDE, frFR is coming.

I used to love this mod (recommended it to friends, etc.). But ProfessionLinks has had a major issue through the last few versions and its become somewhat more pronounced with v2.3.

When you enter a phrase in the search box like "Enchant Weapon", the listings that appear often do not cover all recipes that contain that phrase. The scroll arrow on the right side of the box can be moved, but the recipes do not scroll.

Change the search to something more specific, like "Mongoose" (as in "Enchant Weapon - Mongoose") and the recipe shows up fine. But that same recipe may not appear when you enter "Enchant Weapon" in the search box.

Same issue doing searches for "Elixir of" and so on. You often need to enter the exact end part of the name to have the link show up. The odd thing is that when you limit searches by choosing a profession in the drop-down box (i.e. selecting Enchanting), more recipes may show up when entering "Enchant Weapon" for the search than the previous less limited search. But it may still be missing a few.

This problem seriously limits the convenience of this mod. Hopefully searches can be handled better in the future. For right now, have switched over to the updated TradeskillInfo, which doesn't have this search problem.

Actually, since its spells, the name is always locally available, so it's possible to translate them all in one go. But doing so will 99% of the time disconnect the user (since the client will flood the server with requests for information about the actual items), which is why I opted for the "a few at a time" version, which worked perfectly without disconnects on the 2.2 PTR and up until 2.2.3.

But I've downloaded the language packs now, so I should be able to supply translations for the next update, but I'll probably wait until 2.3 is released, since it has a lot of new recipes.

I'll include some translations with the next release, too bad, the other way was so much easier to maintain :|
Yup, that's my speculation, too. I first thought they maybe removed some of the NYI recipes, and those were giving disconnects. Well, I finally got every recipe cached on the PTR (less addons = less reload time ), except Crystal Throat Lozenge and Goldthorn Tea, which only resulted in plain text when linked. Removed those from the db and voila, the translation went through. Added translations for those two manually, I can send you the resulting lua file if you want it for future use.

As for the translations, just translating the actual profession name, for instance "First Aid" to "Erste Hilfe" (my German might be a bit rusty) and such should do the trick. Easiest way for you, until I release a new version with all the translations, would probably be to edit the Data\localization.en.lua file. At the bottom, you'll see the names of the individual professions, where you can alter the strings. And then delete the saved variables file ( WTF\Accounts\[AccountName]\SavedVariables\ProfessionLinks.lua )
That's actually what I did I noticed, though, that you're translating the profession names, too, so other locales would have to run a translation before using those links, which again is quite difficult without PL (to link them and make them 'safe')
You could only translate cached recipes, and have every request also check whether you already have a translation for this one, and add it if necessary.

However, using /pl translate disconnects me on both Live and PTR after a few seconds.
Also, I had to manually change the profession names again to get working links, so unless you're localizing that, too (or the developers bother to fix this issue) I suggest to have default translations at least for those

Well, I've periodically checked live realms, but requesting non-existing item ids, to see if they have reactivated the disconnect feature, and so far, no disconnects.

That's hawt, too. I think my gathering of the German names through Allakhazam still has various errors, anyway, my guess is those had a different name back then when Allak stored them, and hasn't updated them since So, it's actually good I didn't find much time after uploading the zip below, as further work would've been useless

Also removed the requirement for holding down Alt to see/link recipes that wasn't cached, as Blizzard removed the disconnect "feature"
I think that may only be on the PTRs...

I can see both the enchants you mentioned here (sure you have v2.2?)
And where I get the data from: directly from the game.

Which one are you referring to?

If you're referring to the new ones added in 2.3, then you're correct. Won't add those until 2.3 goes live.
