System Message Control Tool  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)

Version: 1.3.12
by: [V]iper [More]

This add-on breaks up a lot of the system messages (the yellow ones) into groups, which you can then decide to send to different chat windows, change the color of them or simply mute them.
It also breaks up various other messages, like the guild messages (normal, officer and MotD), into their own groups, so you can set which chat windows they should show in and in what colors.
Note that regarding the guild messages those are being set through the default chat system (right clicking the chat tab), where all others are controlled from the SMCT option window.

No message will ever be "lost" if you, for instance, delete a chat window and forget to change the setting for some message group. In that case the message will just be sent back to the original chat system to do its default behaviour.

If you want to just change the color of a message, you will have to still set which chat window it should go to. If you just leave it at "Pass-through" the system will ignore the group to speed up processing of messages.

The "Pass-through" option will just send the message back into the original chat system for it to do whatever it's setup to do, so this setting is used for all the messages you just want to act as they do now.

To access the options just type "/smct".

Note:
This has not been fully tested on non-english clients, but it should however work since everything is parsed from the pre-defined variables within WoW.

If you find any messages missing, please give me the exact message and what you did when you got it so I can add it to the system.

The amount of message groups in the system now is rather substantial. I will reorganize them and improve the overall GUI to handle them better, providing a better overview.
Improvements to the profile copy system is coming too.

Version 1.3.12:
- Added support for the SMCT: Chat Function Wrapper add-on, which will attempt to fix the duplicate messages issues that some users are experiencing.

Version 1.3.11:
- Removed some left-over debug code that could cause errors.

Version 1.3.10:
- Fixed "/who" messages not being captured properly (and hence not processed either).

Version 1.3.9:
- Added group invite message to group group (group? Group!)
- Added a new group for messages related to reputation level changes.
- Added daily quest messages to quest group.

Can you update for WoW Classic Era and Season of Mastery, since I can see the addon under addons but I am not able to open the settings ("/smct") of the addon.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry to report that I stopped playing WoW a while back, which also means that my add-on development has stopped.

Anyone is free to pick up any of my add-ons and carry on developing them. As long as I'm given initial credit, then by all means go nuts ^^

I do have some add-ons which has never been publicly released, but I bet players would find them useful (those who had access to them did at least). But like my other add-ons they are not updated for patch 3 either.
So if anyone out there is interested in perhaps taking up one or more of these add-ons, drop me a PM to hear about what they are and based on that if it's something you'd like to fix up.

Hi Ya,

I love this mod. Is there any chance of getting this to work in 3.0? Or does anyone know of any mod that does this kind of thing?

Thanks for your time.

I hope it's not high problem between latest patch and your mod.
Update to the newest version, since it should be fixed in that. The reason is that some variables has been removed by Blizzard but SMCT still tries to parse them (resulting in an error). But in the newest version it will just write them out to chat, which ones couldn't be found, but not create errors and stop functioning.

If it's still creating an error I guess I need to look deeper into stuff, but at least I just tried logging in and it's working fine except for reporting a few missing strings.

On another note:
Still low on time and AoC is starting in a few days, so expect a bit of time before I can get back to my add-ons. They have not been abandoned though and I have more add-ons in store to release when they're done.

I don't have any plans of extending on what SMCT can do now, although the whisper thing might be added at some point (something similar can already be found in SMCT for guild messages).

I'm still trying to find some time to properly figure out what's going on with the duplicate message issue, but it's a bit difficult (time-wise) right now. Never the less it's very high on the list as I can understand how annoying the issue must be.

I agree; there are already adequate tools in place to control other chat message types, so there is no need to bloat up this excellent addon with features that already exist, and are easily available and perfectly usable in the Blizzard UI.

The only chat-message-related feature I'm missing post-2.4 is the ability to change incoming and outcoming whisper colors independently. Previously the Blizz UI showed them separately; now they're grouped under a single "Whisper" title. I'm not sure if that's quite in the scope of this addon, but it'd be a nice little feature to see somewhere.

No, please keep it focused.

I've now changed from Prat to Chatter ( http://www.wowace.com/forums/index.php?topic=12738.0 ) and hoped the issue with duplicated messages would've been gone but unfortunately it's not. Just as a heads up.

More options.

I think your mod is really great, I have noticed the same problems that you have addressed when coupled with Prat. However, I am curious as to weather or not you would have the time to add all chat channel functionality to your mod. I think it would be great to have 1 chat mod that will allow you to control all chat flow to any desired channels that you want.

Bugger. I guess I will have to try and free up some time and recreate the issue so I can do some proper error finding and testing ^^

I'm still getting duplicated messages even with the wrapper in place.

As said I'm using SMCT & Prat and if I disable Prat, the duplication goes away.

I've uploaded a wrapper add-on to make sure SMCT is always handling chat messages first. I haven't had the time to fully test this or actually recreate the duplicate message thing, so it's a shot in the dark, but try it out if you're experiencing the issue with duplicate messages.

You need to update SMCT to version 1.3.12 for the wrapper to work.

If you aren't experiencing the issue with duplicate messages, there's no need to update SMCT to version 1.3.12 or download the wrapper add-on.

You can find the wrapper add-on listed as SMCT: Chat Function Wrapper.

I'm releasing it as a seperate add-on to avoid any future confusion, in case some other solution is found or it doesn't even work, as opposed to just putting it in the current SMCT. When I've done some more testing and such I'll figure out if it should end up packaged with SMCT (as in if it's required for SMCT to function properly without issues).

Regarding the entire duplicate messages thing I doubt it's something directly related to SMCT, but instead a combination of add-ons and how they use the message chain.

Never the less it's something I will look into. I can create something that will simply not let duplicate messages get through twice, but I would like to avoid that solution (at least long-term) and instead find a method that solves the actual problem instead of just hiding it

Never the less I will look into releasing a version that hides duplicate messages, until a better solution can be found. I hope I can get around to doing that tomorrow.

If possible I would like to get an add-on list from those of you who get duplicate messages and any other information you might have (only happens when X add-on is also active and so on). Thanks
