Mini Friends - Modified by Badious
Minifriends gives you a small window showing all of your friends online and their status. You can reposition the window anywhere on screen by click on the frame and dragging.
The Mod also lets you know when a friend comes on line and goes offline in your chat log and with a splash screen at the top of your screen. The splash screen can be turned off.
Text color indicators:
Red = AFK
Purple = DND
Green = Near you
White = Online somewhere
I love this little mod but did not want the textures or anything applied to it so I modified it and made it all clear and rescaled it show fewer friends in the frame since I don't generally have more than 7 friends online at a time. I hope you like it.
If you want background colors enabled you may do so by renaming the original minifriends.xml to something else and changing the name of minifriendsframe.xml to miniframes.xml

Based on 3.3.5 API changes....
File: MiniFriends.lua (ONLY / replace the MiniFriends.lua from this addon) You can get the 3.3.5 MiniFriends.lua file here: http://gist.github.com/550399 The file on github doesn't throw lua errors and name colors reflect status. Things to note based on the limitations of 3.3.5 1. Right click whisper does not show up on the General Tab window unless you have the chat input box open but works on other tabs just fine. 2. The minifriends list will only show up when you open your friends list at least once.

Hasn't been updated since January 2008, I've a feeling we won't see an update from the original author.
Patch 3.3.5 has kind of broken it. Clicking names to whisper them causes an LUA error, and with the changes of AFK/DND to Away/Busy, the names no longer change colors. RealID Friends naturally do not show up on the list. And even without the border -- and this was the case before 3.3.5 -- moving the frame and keeping it there between sessions can be a PITA. I really don't know much about LUA and am not sure if I can fix it myself. I'm hoping someone else may know how to correct some of these issues? Love this addon and would hate to go without it, especially since there's really only two others like this that I've found which are also way out-of-date and have a terrible gui. |

Any plans to update this mod?
I replaced the original minifriends.xml as instructed since I wanted the border frame and all. Works for the first session. But when you login on subsequent sessions the friend list is no longer bound to the parent minifriends border frame and when you drag it the friend list will stay on the left side of the screen. Other than that all the functionality seems to still work on the first session. |
