Altoholic   Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Hi, my name is Thaoky, and I'm an Altoholic

Altoholic is an Ace 3 addon written for people who dedicate most of their time to leveling alts, and who want to have as much information as possible in one addon. The main feature of the addon is the search functionality which allows users to search their alts' bags or loot tables in an Auction-House-like frame (see screenshots). All this with multiple-realms/accounts support.

About the addon & the author

I've been playing WoW since the European release, and I used to rely on addons like character viewer to check my alts' inventory, but since it was more or less abandoned and not always stable for me, I decided to write an addon myself and to improve the search feature as much as I could. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do

The addon has been in development since December 2007 and was officially released in late March 2008. It's still not final, and although it has considerably evolved since the initial release, there are still a lot of things I haven't had time to implement yet.
Please note that this is my first addon, and that English is not my native language.

Features:

- Languages supported: enUS, frFR, deDE, esES, ruRU, zhCN & zhTW.

- Account-wide data summary:
  • Characters' talents: Full talent trees & glyphs are supported for both specializations.
  • Money, /played, rest xp for each character, subtotals by realm, and grandtotals for the account.
  • Bag usage: see at a glance which characters should get bigger bags (bag size, free slots and types included)
  • Characters' skills: skill summary on one screen, namely the 2 main professions + the 3 secondary skills as well as riding. I may add more if there's demand. Profession cooldowns included.
  • Reputations: a list of all the reputations of the current realm's characters. You can see at a glance if all your alts are at least honored with Honor Hold if you want to get the new 2.4 blue PVP set. Suggestions on how to gring reputations will be available soon.

- View containers (bags, bank, keyring) of all alts, on all realms.

- Guild banks : You have 10 alts in 10 different guilds on the same server, all of them with access to a guild bank ? Not a problem, you can see them all here.

- E-mail: allows you to see which alts have mail without having to reconnect them. The addon will tell you when mail is about to expire on a character. Threshold configurable (up to 15 days). Multiple realm support as well. Mails sent to a known alt (one you've logged on at least once) will be visible in the addon without having to reconnect it.

- Equipment: See the equipment of the current realm's alts in one screen. Very useful when purchasing stuff for your alts at the AH. Multiple realms supported. Right-clicking any equipment piece will allow you to find an upgrade, this feature is similar to the official wow armory feature, and is quite performant, even though it doesn't match the accuracy of the official one.

- Search: the most important feature of the addon, it uses an AH-like frame to display search results. You can either search bags on the current realm, on all realms, or a loot table.
The loot table is a table based on AtlasLoot, but which contains only item id's, and therefore keeps memory usage minimal.

The Search menu allows you to find items based on their name (even partial), level, type or rarity, almost like at the AH. It is also possible to search known recipes.

- Quest Log: See the quest logs of all your alts, as well as an indication of which alts are on a specific quest. Clicking on a quest link in the chat log will tell you which alts are on that quest.

- Suggestions: Currently, only profession leveling suggestions are available when mousing over your current level in a specific profession. Suggestions are based on the leveling guides posted on the official US forums (credit goes to their respective authors). The addon also suggests you where to quest/grind xp depending on your character level.

Suggestions were also added for the most recent factions. More to come later.

- Auction house: You can see which auctions/bids you've placed with an alt without being logged in or being at the AH.

- Professions: You can browse all known recipes in a thotbot like frame (see screenshot).

- Mounts & Pets of all your alts.

- Achievements are tracked for all you alts (see screenshot).

- Guild Members: a list of your connected guildmates, along with their alts (if they're using Altoholic too), and their average item level. Clicking their AiL will also allow you to "remotely" inspect their equipment.

- Guild Skills: a list of altoholic users in your guild, along with their alts and direct profession links. All professions are available in one click.

- Guild Bank tabs: a list of altoholic users and the time at which they last visited the guild bank. If you haven't visited the guild bank for a few days, you can remotely update your local data without going to a capital city.

3.3.002 (09/03/2010)

- Added an information tooltip when mousing over the number of mails in the Activity pane.
- Search is now cancelled if there is no value in the search edit box, except if you're using the categories in the search tab.
- Reworked item filtering during searches. All types of searches now use the same code path. Also fixed a few filters that were not working properly.
- Changed the location drop down in the Summary tab, you can now select more combinations of realms/accounts.
- Added an option to clamp the addon's window to the screen.
- Fixed skill tooltip displaying "no data" when mousing over skinning or herbalism.
- The achievement UI is now a module on its own and is loaded-on-demand. This slightly decreases resource usage if you don't use that part of the UI.
- You can now fully disable DataStore_Achievements and Altoholic_Achievements if you do not wish to track achievements at all.
- Winter code cleanup is almost over, almost everything has been reviewed. Next reviews: Calendar & Account Sharing (too big/touchy to review in this pass).

Note: I have released an alpha version of my new addon on CurseForge. It's definitely not final, but it's stable and fully usable.
Those of you who like to hunt quests you may have missed should like it, it's called Odyssey, and you can find it here:

http://wow.curseforge.com/addons/odyssey/

The quest database is still WIP, so don't bash if there are a few mistakes here & there. I will also be looking for people who can help me maintaining the list of quests & filters.

No "official" support will be given at this point, please use the email thaoky.altoholic@yahoo.com if you have questions or if you are willing to help. I can also be reached on IRC.

3.3.001d (28/01/2010)

- Fixed several issues with the guild bank tab: deleting a guild, guilds that still appeared in the drop down, etc..
Note: guild bank money is reset to zero in the process, please visit your guild bank to update it.
- Improved the source's description when searching for items located in the guild bank.
- Fixed an error when changing alt in the 'Characters' tab.

3.3.001c (27/01/2010)

- Added back 'text' field in LDB (conditional, for Broker2FuBar)
- Fixed LinkWrangler hook.
- Added support for faction specific achievements. They are now displayed on the same line if a given realm contains characters of the two factions. This used to be a bug/limitation of the system in earlier versions.
- Guild bank counters from other realms are no longer displayed in the tooltip.
- Fixed a Lua error in the 'Guild Skills' pane.
- Added "Offline Members" to the 'Guild Members' pane. The AiL of an offline member can still be clicked, and if a players' equipment has been checked earlier, it will be displayed.
- Fixed a few Lua errors.
- Added an option to show/hide pets already known/could be learned by xx. (Thanks bsmorgan !)
- Pets/mounts can now be shift-clicked and linked.
- Expiries that are supposed to be shown in a dialog box will now be printed to the chat frame instead if player is in combat.
- Changed dependencies in the .toc file, to help the Curse Client with DataStore & its modules.
- Updated the recipe DB.
- Updated loot tables (ICC).

3.3.001b (26/12/2009)

Two Year Anniversary Edition

In a few days, Altoholic will turn two, and I would like to take some time to thank you all for the continuous support you have given me
Quite often, I have received warm "thank you" messages from many of you, and apart from the traditional "you're welcome", or "glad you like the addon", I never had the opportunity to tell you how much this keeps me going.
So here I am, thanking you for being patient when bugfixes do not come in fast enough, for taking the time to dig into the issues yourselves because I cannot reproduce a bug, and for sometimes fixing bugs in my place too.
For all these little things you have done to help, know that I am extremely grateful, and that what started as a small personal project now binds a small community, thanks to all of you.

I wish you all the very best for 2010!

On to the changelog:
- Fixed a Lua error in DataStore_Auctions.
- Fixed missing currencies count to the tooltip.
- Added a sorted list of achievements in the category "Dungeons & Raids".
- Fixed a tooltip bug where only one of two guilds with the same name would be listed.
- Added The Ashen Verdict faction.

3.3.001 (09/12/2009)

2 reminders :

1) In the previous version, all options have been moved to Blizzard's option panel, under 2 categories : Altoholic & DataStore (click on '+'). No options has been removed.
2) Help topics have been added in both categories, make sure to read them, they contain a lot of frequently asked questions.

- Added two new options in DataStore_Mails to check mail expiries for all accounts and/or all realms
- Slightly modified the options panels to better fit all resolutions/UI scales.
- The "Shared Content" scroll frame now has its own panel, right under "Account Sharing". This will change in the future when the entire account sharing feature gets an upgrade and becomes entirely managed by DataStore.
- Added an option to automatically clear expired auctions and bids (DataStore_Auctions).
- Fixed a bug where mail counters were not always displayed in the tooltip. (Thanks Quagm1re !)
- Added currencies count to the tooltip.
- Added 4 missing pets.
- Added mandatory dependencies on DataStore_Characters & DataStore_Containers. The other modules are optional, and the addon will be updated to reflect that soon. Until you read a note about this in the changelog, keep all modules activated.
- Manually updated the loot tables of Onyxia's Lair & ToC, since they are not yet in LPT.

3.2.003b (25/11/2009)

- Fixed a Lua error in the when sorting the activity pane by auctions or bids, this happened if one of the alts had never visited the AH.
- Fixed a Lua error in the search pane.
- Fixed a Lua error when mousing over the skill level of an unscanned profession in the Skills pane.
- The options tab has been removed, all options are now available in the Blizzard Options panel. A button has been added at the top of the summary tab, for faster access.
- Added an help topic in the options panel. More topics will be added along the way, don't hesitate to ask if you want to see a particular topic.
- Added a "what's new" topic in the options panel.
- Added an option to turn off the broadcast of profession links to the guild channel into DataStore_Crafts. This is what consumes the most bandwidth, so disable it if you/your guild considers this as critical.

3.2.003 (16/11/2009)

- Fixed a compatibility issue with MrTrader (DataStore_Crafts)
- Added the character skill level in the recipe tooltip (in "Could be learned by ..")
- Fixed a Lua error in when trying to get the item count of a missing character.
- Fixed invalid reporting of the number of free bank slots.
- Added a counter in the achievements tooltip to show the amount of completed criterias, this is particulary useful for achievements like "Northrend Gourmet"
- Some achievement categories are now sorted in a custom fashion, rather than alphabetically, in order to show progressive achievements side by side.
- Achievements can now be linked into chat frames. (You will need to relog your alts at least once for this to work).
- Moved the option that manages the mail expiry threshold to DataStore_Mails. It is thus reset to 5 days for everyone, make sure to change it back to whatever you like in the options pane.
- Guild communication has been entirely rewritten.
The bad news is that backwards compatibility is not maintained (way too much work), meaning that you will not see your guild mates' data in the guild panes unless they upgrade to this version.
The good news is that the amount of data put on the guild channel has been decreased by around 30-35%, and as guild comm is now mostly managed by datastore, this will open doors for new features.
- Improved the "Guild Bank Tabs" pane:
- if you're playing in a guild where players use different localizations of Altoholic, you will now see all timestamps in the same format.
- Players who have more recent data than yours are now shown in yellow (the colour may change if I find something more suitable).
- Improved return mail support. If a guildmate returns a mail to one of your alts, you will be noticed immediately.
- Mail expiries are now checked 5 seconds after login, to slightly decrease the processing load at startup.
- Your alts' professions are now sent 5 seconds after login at a pace of 1 per 0.5 seconds, this also decreases the amount of info put on the network at startup. Same thing when you reply to someone else's login.
- Guild member professions will now automatically be cleaned after a patch, to make sure your database only contains usable links.
- Most money amounts are now displayed using money icons, some of them will remain as they were due to graphic inconsistencies.
- DataStore_Talents now scans talent tree reference only once per game patch, this saves some cpu cycles at loading.
- Fixed a lot of small bugs in a lot of places.

3.2.002b (28/09/2009)

- Removed the "Method missing" error message in DataStore, it now fails silently (it's mostly a debug feature).
- Added an option to display detailed guild bank counters (per tab). Disabled by default.
- Fixed a Lua error in the Auctions/bids panes.
- Updated the list of Feats of Strength.
- Added 3.2 pets.
- Changed the mysterious egg/disgusting jar timers from 7 days to 6 days 20 hours.
- Fixed a bug where the message "No player named xx is currently playing." could be spammed if a guildmate logged in & out too quickly.

3.2.002 (14/09/2009)

- Added early support for returned mails.
- Fixed a Lua error when trying to delete a guild bank.
- Changed the calendar warning options, you can now set different warning thresholds per event type.
- Added an option to disable name auto-complete when writing a mail (to prevent conflicts with other addons offering the same feature).
- The reputations pane has been redone. I'm still playing a bit with the icon colors, feel free to make suggestions/tests by changing the values in Frames\Reputations.lua
- Added a new pane for the currencies. They are still visible per character in the activity pane.

3.2.001d (24/08/2009)

More bugfixes.
- Removed an unnecessary blank line that sometimes appeared in the tooltip.
- Fixed mining ore/herbs counters being displayed twice when Informant is present (finally ).
- Fixed the detection of goblin AH (DataStore_Auctions).
- Fixed a Lua error when receiving a mail from a guildmate (DataStore_Mails).
- Fixed a Lua error when searching guild members professions. This was caused by LibTradeLinks expiry after a patch.
- Updated LibTradeLinks to the most recent version.
- Slightly modified the way calendar events are managed, in order to prevent a wall of text when multiple alchemy transmutes expire simultaneously.
- Several bugfixes in the calendar too.
- koKR partial localization (thanks Seashop !)
- Fixed realm deletion in the account summary.
- Declined invitations are now filtered out.

Mail tracking bug...

I found a way to bug the mail tracking.

Try to send mail to an alt who can't receive that mail from you (say, an heirloom item to a toon on another account).

Altoholic records the mail as being sent, but it doesn't actually get sent, of course.

@Teaminnovator: I have plans to change the order of alts in the equipment pane (and the other panes that look similar). There is no method to determine the order, it's just the way Lua places them in memory, and it's pretty random.

@tiggerandscoob: Could you send me your SV files with an explanation of what goes right & wrong (+ char names, guild names, etc..) ? Thanks in advance.

@willgk: constant account sharing is something I have in mind, I have to be extremelly careful with this though, as a poorly coded algorithm could result in a lot of bandwidth being consumed. There will be improvements to account sharing though.

@jidz: I'm alone on the project, but I'd gladly welcome help
Send me your SV files, from what I read, you did everything correctly.

@Ihadurca: Regarding the error, it might be necessary to clean one SV file called DataStore_Inventory.lua. About the mail expiry, check DataStore's Options, under DataStore_Mails.
I also need to rework the calendar to better support time zones.

@Isidorius: I'll check that, it's possible that I missed something in there. Calendar code is quite touchy.

@Imtrease: It's on my list.

@nickyjean: Spells are tracked, but I haven't written a UI for them yet.

I love this addon. It's such a godsend. But I'm not much for military time, is there a way to change that on the calendar info? When I go to check it says my alt has a raid at 20:00 and I'd rather it just say 9:00. LOL Is there an option that I missed?

Feature Request:

Is there a way to add class spells to the Toons? I was thinking something similar to Trainerfu . Maybe for both professions and class.

Its just so helpful when powerleveling and I miss it back from when it used to work.

I too use the calendar from Alt to remind me of toon activities yet my calendar seems to be accurate with the server time vs local time is it possible it's something in the calendar vs this addon. I'm sure it's solvable though.

Calender time

I rely on this addon for almost everything I do in wow, including knowing when to show up and on what toon to a raid. I noticed though that altoholic seems to use my computers time instead of realm time. By the time the reminder comes up I'm generally already an hour late to my raid. Is there any way to alleviate this problem?

Question Altoholic Calendar Reminders on Login Won't Go Away

I thought this issue was addressed/fixed some time ago, but I'm having trouble finding references to it, though I'm positive I remember folks talking about it.

Basically, when you login with a character, Altoholic spams the chatbox with various Calendar events, no matter how old/passed/done they are (not to mention, on other characters/realms).

Disable warnings is checked in the options (and toggled to make sure the setting 'took'), but it has no affect on this (unless there's another setting somewhere that affects these messages specifically; I can't find it).

The only way I can clear them is if I bomb out my Altoholic data and start over. Until I get more Calendar events that it'll eventually tell me all about, constantly, every login.

Very frustrating! I love this add-on, it supports my habit

Did I overlook something obvious that turns those off (though it seems to me that once the event is done, it shouldn't ever bother with it again, right?), or is this a known gremlin in the works?

Thanks for all your hard work!

I love you. ^_^ This addon is wonderful.

I keep getting this error though whenever I log onto any toon or reload my ui. It doesn't seem to cause any problems, so it works, it's just a little bothersome that it is always popping up. lol I'm not sure if it's because I am also getting a message saying one or more of my alts has some mail expiring soon.

Hello, Thaoky and other Altoholic dev. (if there are others)

I was trying this great addon and wanted to use the support of multible accounts and the feature of account sharring.
but i dont know, it seems there is a problem with it. i send the request (both have enabled it) to my other toon, on a diffrent account, same server. the other toon gets the request and accept it, the transfer start, it says "Table of Content recived (7 Items)" and then it says, "Transfer Complete" but i cant see it in my main window, and yes i have selected "(All reamls (All Accounts))" but still nothing

hope you can help, and tell me what im doing wrong

Feature Request,

Allow in background constant account sharing and keep only most recent data. This way you can have your multi boxed computers automatically update you with their content. I would be willing to pay money for this feature. I have 10 4 slot guild banks and it is quite hectic to search all those constantly having to move characters around to update data if I change my ui. And even worse that i have to keep that window open while receiving content.

Answer: No point to clobber code for a few items.

Thanks for replying Thaoky...I see how it was fixed in the new patch you posted, thank you. I am not sure if I mentioned this in my original posting and if not I apologize.

I am having issues with the guild bank being recorded by my toons. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the addon several times already and cannot get 2 of my 3 guild banks to have their content recorded. I am able to share the content with a friend for now but even after sharing content I am still not able to update it on my own. Is there something I am missing or some kind of refresh I can do to get the content recorded by my own toons again?

Thanks for the great addon. Has saved me many times from having to jump through hoops making sure I'm not locked on a raid with a toon or needing a crafting item that is in a different bank.

I do have a question though. I would like to compare two of my toons gears. When I go to the equipment screen though the toons are separated by many of my other toons. Is there a way to reset/reorder this screen? I can't seem to figure out the method that is determined to put the toons across the screen as it doesn't sort by time played, level, or any other method and has seemed to change randomly at times.

Thanks for any help,
Prot of Korgath
