ShieldsUp  Popular! (More than 5000 hits)
Version: 4.3.0.122
by: Phanx, Akkorian
ShieldsUp monitors your Earth Shield, Water Shield, and Lightning Shield.

It features an easy-to-read text display that shows the number of charges remaining on each active shield, as well as the name of the last person you cast Earth Shield on. Other features include a visual indication when another shaman overwrites your Earth Shield, text and audio alerts when one of your shields expires or is removed, and a condensed display while solo (or for shamans without Earth Shield).

ShieldsUp was originally based on beSch, by Infineon.

Usage

Options are available in the Interface Options window. You can type “/sup” to open the window directly to the ShieldsUp panel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why isn’t ShieldsUp monitoring my Earth Shield?

A: ShieldsUp only monitors Earth Shield when it’s cast on yourself, or on a player or pet in your party or raid group. There is no way for addons to reliably monitor buffs cast on other units, so ShieldsUp doesn’t try.

Q: Why am I only seeing one charge counter?

A: ShieldsUp switches to a single-counter display when you are solo, or if you don’t have the Earth Shield talent, since in either situation it’s only possible for you to have one shield active on a target ShieldsUp can monitor.

Localization

ShieldsUp is compatible with English, Deutsch (deDE), Español (esES/esMX), Français (frFR), Português (ptBR), Русский (ruRU), 한국어 (koKR), 简体中文 (zhCN), and 正體中文 (zhTW) game clients.

ShieldsUp is translated into English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Русский, 简体中文, and 正體中文. If you can provide translations for any locale, please send me a PM.

Feature Requests

If there’s something you’d like to see added to ShieldsUp, feel free to submit a feature request ticket. Please keep in mind that ShieldsUp is intentionally limited in scope to locally monitoring your own shaman shields, and that requests for features outside of this scope will not be considered.

Bug Reports

If you encounter a problem with ShieldsUp, please submit a bug report with the following information:
  • Addon version (ex: 4.0.1.11)
  • WoW client version and locale (ex: 4.0.1 enUS)
  • Description of the problem
  • Steps to reproduce the problem
  • Whether the problem occurs when all other addons are disabled
  • Exact text of any related error messages (WITHOUT lists of local variables or installed addons, please!)
  • Screenshot, if the problem is graphical
Remember to check on your ticket after a few days, as I may need more information or ask you to try a possible solution.

Hi Miisery,

I think you maybe posted on the wrong addon. ShieldsUp doesn’t have anything to do with murloc sounds. Or, maybe you had another addon registering a murloc sound, and you were using that sound in ShieldsUp. If that’s what you mean, then you’ll need to look at other addons you’ve recently updated or removed. The list of sounds ShieldsUp registers with the LibSharedMedia-3.0 library (which allows sharing sounds, fonts, and textures between addons that use the same library) hasn’t changed in a very long time.

So.. I realized today that my Murloc sound is missing. Did this happen to anyone else? I'm sad because all the other sounds besides Gong are too quiet for me to hear. That and Murlocs remind me of the water, so that's what I think of. =[

Was this planned or is it a bug?

Hi Szyarah,

Thanks!

Also, just for future reference, if you check the “Load out of date addons” box at the top of the addon panel on the login screen, WoW will try to load addons that haven’t been updated since the last patch. Most patches don’t break all addons, or even most addons, so this usually gets everything working again with a minimum of fuss. You’ll have to re-check the box after each patch, though.

Thank you!

I LOVE this addon, it's the best and I was very bummed when it went off with the patch. I have been using cheap imitations since then but am gladly switching back.

I’ve just posted a new version with all the changes Phanx had made since the last release (mainly adding WoW China compatibility) and a few other minor fixes (mainly eliminating leaked globals). I also updated the Spanish localization; I’m not greatly fluent, but I am better at it than Phanx.

We still need Korean translations, and the Russian localization is missing translations for a number of phrases. If you can help, please send me a PM!

Version 4.0.3.105
  • Fixed a number of minor bugs
  • Added backwards compatibility for WoW China
  • Added TOC metadata for the Curse Client
  • Updated Spanish localization

Okay, the problem is that NeedjaTracker is overwriting the Blizzard API function "IsInInstance" with a custom function of the same name in the global namespace. I've notified the addon's author, but beyond that, there's nothing I can do in my own addon to fix or work around the problem.

haha you rock, that's the voice of a guy who's been writing WoW mods for years GreedBeacon works the same and feels a bit "lighter" so no worries.

You'll have to enable your other addons one by one to figure out which one is causing the problem. Let me know which one it is, too, so I can try to see what it's actually doing wrong.
Found it That is tough with tons of mods installed.

0.2 beta hides the frame, bummer, I really like that mod.

When I load only ShieldsUp! it shows, when I enable all my other addons it's hidden. A mod would specifically have to hide that frame or is it considered part of another UI element? I'm not using default action bars, unit frames or totem frame.

Thanks

Yes

Yes, I double checked every setting and reset to defaults. Played with all the sliders to see if I could get it on screen and hid every other element incase it was behind them. Something is hiding it.

Versions other than the current one are not supported, and are likely to not work. They were superceded by newer versions for a reason.

Anyway, did check your visibility settings as I suggested? If you're standing in town and have "Hide when resting" checked, or aren't in a group and have "Hide when solo" checked, for example, then the display being hidden is expected and correct behavior.
