The suggested change in the code works perfectly! It even handles the translation of into *smile* - something which Eloquence, for example, never was able to do correctly.

So, in spite of the fact that I am really allergic to leet speak, thanks for this addon. With a little work it is a lightwight alternative to addons like Lore, Alias or Eloquence, until finally someone creates something with the possibility to add translations in game.

There were such addons, you are right (Eloquence, Alias, Textfilter and others), but all I know stopped working, since for some reason there was no update since patch 2.0 or earlier for them. Except of Eloquence (there was no update, too, but you get it working with a trick), but that addon was to big and to less configurable for my taste.

Because of that will try the change in the .lua file of leeto, thanks for the tip! I really hope it works. Although I still think it would be very nice to be able to add new "translations" ingame, instead of having to edit the .lua file everytime.

And about the leet translator - if you are really thinking about it (and I hope you are!!! ) :Is it possible to have the option to mark the translated text somehow, to know someone used leet (e.g. putting a special sign behind it, or something like that).

Something which translates a "pat" I type into "Patrol incoming"," or a "omw" into "on my way". (That is much nicer, not only at RPG servers, but also when playing in company of someone who is new to the game.)

No database necessary, only the replacement function and a possibility to add own translations, perhaps with a slash command.

Oh and maybe there would a possibility to create an "leet translator", which intercepts incoming leet and translates them into "normal" English?

Just as a thought.
there're some rp and /2 mods which do anything like this

Teadragon: Feel free to change my (really simple) sourcecode, modifying Leeto to exactly do what you want is quite easy:
Open the lua, find the leeto_translate() function, remove everything in it except the "return strz;" and add:
Code:
if strz=="pat" then strz="Patrol incoming!"; end;
if strz=="omw" then strz="on my way"; end;
etc.

As for the translator to decypher incoming leet, I might think about it
