I had the same problem not showing tooltips causing this error:
Message: ..\FrameXML\ContainerFrame.lua line 602:
attempt to index local 'self' (a nil value)
After disabling/enabling addons (using bagnon btw,great addon :D )
I found out that the addon "pickingskill" for my rogue was causing this..
