Node flashing idea, discussion welcome.

This is difficult for me to explain, I hope I make a little sense..

I was sitting near a node that was flashing and there was a battlepet icon nearby. I noticed that the battlepet icon has a 2nd icon.. This icon kind of looks corrupted.
When the node icon goes bright the battlepet icon is displayed correctly.
when the node icon goes dim there is a brief display of the 2nd "corrupted" icon.

Could this be the problem? We have only had the other icons flashing when the battlepets were introduced to Wow.

My laptop is far from top spec and you might not see what I am seeing if your computer is top of the range.

If anyone else has noticed this and can word it better than me please do..

There really is nothing I can do to fix it ... the original thread regarding it way back in 4.1 is here...

http://www.wowinterface.com/forums/s...689#post235689

I've been looking at the code for it for the last hour, aswell as looking online to see if anyone found a solution since I know there are other addons that do the glow..

The textures are cached in memory the way they should be, and there is nothing else to the code except 2 calls, one SetBlipTexture(texture1) and one SetBlipTexture(texture2)

I tried even removing the 1 texture, and just having it call the bright one over and over and it still flickers.

It's either I remove it completely (which I tried doing before and people wanted it back) or we continue to live with setting glow to 0 if your not farming.

I see...

I personally have no problem with the flashing, but it seems to be the main thing people are not liking at the moment..

I'm just trying to rack my small brain and see if there is anything I can come up with that might help..

*edit.. I notice after googling that there was a "fix" to the flickering in the 4.1 build...
I bet there was no dev notes that came to you when you took over....

Rythal, would the Blizzard animation API help with this? I figure that since you're basically swapping between two graphics, that might help because you only want to switch the "active node" icon graphics and no others.

Please keep in mind that I really don't know anything about this, but I've seen some pretty cool stuff happen using the animation API.

Nov 3, 2012 (3:02AM Pacific Time)

I just spent the last hour trying to stop my Blizzard's (round) minimap from flashing 2-times each second. It's driving me nuts.

I use the latest versions of the Zygor addon and the Carbonite addon. I got an error message immediately when I attempted to remove a checkmark in the Zygor 'Extra Features' option named "Show Minimap Node Flash". I never even got to the "Apply" button.

I tested addons by disabling all of them except for the Zygor addon and the error did not happen. Then, I enabled only the Carbonite addon and the error happened again.

Here's the error log I recieved:
NOTE: Even though the following error log shows other addons, the error occurred when only Carbonite and the Zygor addons were loaded (as mentioned above). I just didn't make a new copy of the error log.

Yes, ive also been getting this - and it does seem to be cause by the zygor guide add-on.

Honestly, I believe they might be a little slow on fixing this.
Though, I do recall spotting another post that mentioned it.
Ill try to find it for you guys. The flashing lights are starting to get me a little stir crazy :o

anyways, cheers

tinyu 11-04-12 03:46 AM

they probably havnt updated their addon to support CarboniteGPL.

How can that be an error caused by zygor guides, when running zygor (by itself with no other addons) the error does not happen.

If I have zygor loaded, and then also load carbonite (and the error pops-up), isn't the zygor guide merely saying that there's a problem happening from within the carbonite addon's coding, or whatever?

Heh heh. I'm confused as to which one is reporting what! LOL.

It's actually a bit different then that. It boils down to Carbonite changing a lot recently and the Author/s of Zygor's guide have not updated their addon to match/use the changes.

The error you posted

happened because things inside Carb with the node flash ability have changed and Zygor's isn't using the calls properly anymore. That's how I would read that error. Things always seem to go a bit odd when two addons try to control the same thing.

Vis, thank you for that reply. It answers my questions.

EDITED: I "think" it answers my questions, but I'm not sure.
