WTF folder

Could someone explain to me the signifigance of the WTF folder and should I be modifying it as I remove and change my addons?

The WTF folder holds the various settings and the saved variables files for the different addons you use. Check the "Definitive FAQ" thread, Section 9 for further details.

Is it safe to go ahead and delete those saved variables that are from past addons?
