Alternate Power Bar Help Please?

I'd like to ask the community for some assistance please.

In a nutshell... I need to identify all of the different ways that the player alternate power bar is used in quests and instances. This is the additional power bar that sometimes pops up in the lower center of your screen while you are doing certain quests and encounters. Sometimes it's a bar, sometimes it's a counter, sometimes it is a circle the grows and shrinks, sometimes it changes colors to let you know which action you're supposed to be taking.

I would like to try and compile a list of all of the quests and encounters that the alternate power bar appears and how the mechanic works for that quest/encounter. I have created an alternate power bar in nUI6, but I know there are certain applications of it that don't work "right" according to the intended use of the bar in the event.

If you would, please reply to this thread to post specific quests and/or bosses where this bar appears, what type of bar it is.... counter, bar, orb, or whatever, what colors are used for the bar and how the bar values/colors are interpreted.

Your help in building this list would be most appreciated.

Move

If there was a way to just move the standard button/bar up a little bit it would clear all the NUI stuff, I have 8 more toons to level from 85 to 90 so I will make a list of the quest names that change the bar.

PVP Objective Captures

I've notices that with NUI I don't see the PVP objective capture bar any longer.

This bar is supposed to pop up when capturing a PVP objective. Some examples:
1) Halaa in Nagrand
2) Objectives in Hellfire Penninsula
3) Tol Barad captures

Not sure if this is one of the "alternative" bars you are mentioning, but thought it would be a good place to mention it.

RAID Mogu'shan vaults
The stone guard - the power bar shows up before they are going to cast their petrify

DUNGEON Shadopan Monastery
Taran Zhu - shows your anger meter (when to pacify)

nUI5 or nUI6? nUI6 doesn't manage that bar yet, so I'm not sure why it wouldn't show up. If it's nUI5, then it would be replaced by the work I'm doing on nUi6 anyway.

I prefer to manage the bar and incorporate it into the nUI unit frames so that when people customize the nUI layout, they don't have to deal with all of these extra bars and buttons popping up. I really want to integrate it into a single solution. And thanks... I'll look forward to the input.

How is this used? Does it just warn you they are going to petrify when it's full or something else? A bar or a counter? Same color the whole time?

I'm going to assume this is just the standard anger bar that I've been seeing, you have to watch it and "meditate" before it gets filled up. Yes? Or is there a different mechanic here?

I forget the name of the quest, ill try to find it, but it involved breaking boards and cement and kungfu stuff, the bar was an orb and you had to press button 1 when the orb filled up. Anyone help with that quest name?

ah one of the jade forest area quests. works fine for me. done that quest on 3 toons now with no problems.

I should point out here that I am talking specifically about nUI6 in this request... I'm getting a lot of email about things in nUI5. While the input matters, it's worth pointing out that I'm not fixing nUI5, I'm writing nUI6.

Rofl, sorry Scott, for some reason I thought this was a question to you not from you.

There's a few quests in the 85+ zones that use the bar. But most use the override bar.

Looking through my screenshots from my tests for nUI5 here are the quests that use the different bars.

Weed War - ExtraBar, pops up when special item is available to use
A Lesson in Bravery - ExtraBar, pops up when you have to jump back onto the birds back
Clear the Way - ExtraBar, pops up when Ook Ook throws a barrel on you to break out of
Unleash Hell (Alliance) - OverrideBar, replaces main action bar with a single action button
Unyielding Fists: Trial of Bamboo - OverrideBar, replaces main action bar with 2 action buttons and PlayerPowerBarAlt (as a circle) to display a percentage rate of fill that I assume is your concentration level to show that as near to 100% as possible you click the button on the action bar. There are 2 more quests following that work in a similar way.
The Seal is Broken - OverrideBar, replaces main action bar with a single action button
To Bridge Earth and Sky - PlayerPowerBarAlt (as a bar) to display a percentage rate of fill that shows the completion ratio of the action the npc you are working with is working on.
Perfection - OverrideBar, replaces main action bar with several buttons that you use to mimic the trainers movers.

Kung Din - OverrideBar, replaces main action bar with a single button that you use when fighting the beast
Maw of Madness - PlayerPowerBarAlt ( as a bar ) to displa a percentage rate of fill that shows how much of the digestive acids you have been affected by.
Shooting Gallery at the Fair - OverrideBar, replaces main action bar with a single action button and PlayerPowerBarAlt that shows a timer fill for the game as well as a count box.
Ring Toss at the Fair - OverrideBar, relaces main action bar with a single action button and PlayerPowerBarAlt that shows the number of tosses made and successfully achieved.
WhackAMole at the Fair - OverrideBar, relaces main action bar with a single action button and PlayerPowerBarAlt similar to ShootingGallery game
Tonk Commander at the Fair - OverrideBar, replaces main action bar with a few buttons and PlayerPowerBarAlt that works similarly to ShootingGallery
Defend the Rebel Camp - PlayerPowerBarAlt (as a bar) that shows the completion ratio of the defense.

Awesome -- thank you Xrystal. That's exactly what I was looking for.

Stone Guard

To best show the proper tools for the fight, I scoured you tube for a good picture of what is needed. I took this screenshot of the default Blizzard UI in action from a vid submitted by Sugarcoated so I am doubly grateful to them. The energy bar fills with the representative color (purple for amethyst, blue for cobalt, green for jade, and red for jasper) for that particular guard to indicate 1)it is active 2)when the bar is full it will petrify the raid which equals a wipe. During the course of the fight, the active guard and energy bar will change according to mechanics used to trigger events. Each guard has his own health/energy bars (boss frames) along with a frame that shows energy levels (looks similiar to range box).

In nUI6, the boss frames always appear, the energy bar does not appear, and the energy box has not appeared every time.

spiel2001 11-04-12 12:57 PM

If you have the current nUI6, the energy bar should appear on your normal power bar (the bar is split in half showing the alternate power bar as well as your own power bar.

Do you have a link to the video?

What a coincidence, I just completed a couple of quest that use alternate power bars last night. Im pretty sure the quest you are looking for are part of the 4 winds zone in pandaria. Heres the wowwiki links to the quests:

I Hope this helps a little. - Cheers
