nUI and Mists of Pandaria
 

Contrary to popular belief... I do still exists. And, contrary to popular belief, so does nUI ~smile~

I'm not going to bother with a long sob story about real life. If we wanted reality, we wouldn't be playing WoW, would we? ~grin~

So... to the point... I am, at present, working feverishly to get nUI6 together for Mists of Pandaria. I have been at it for a few weeks now, but am hobbled by computer problems among other things. That said, I *do* have nUI6 running on the beta test realm and I will be releasing the first beta as soon as I can nail down the last few major hurdles. I was hoping to have done that last night (Sunday) but couldn't work out a few things. I *will* have a version out ASAP.
In the meantime, nUI5 *is* end of life and will not be supported once MoP goes live. There may, possibly, be a short gap where a few of the features you are accustomed to in nUI5 are missing in nUI6, but I will close the gap as quickly as I can.

Real life issues aside, and in the past, I am as committed to nUI as ever and assure you it has not been abandoned and will be fully supported for MoP. And, with a little luck, I may even get to play a little again myself.

The one hurdle I do have very much in my way is computer problems. I have my hands on a 10 year old laptop that is getting about 8fps, and frequent crashes, with the plain vanilla WoW interface on the test realm and it's making it really really hard to code and test. I am in dire need of a replacement computer... one that can handle WoW with proper graphics support, etc. I'm on bended knee begging whatever remains of the nUI community for contributions to a replacement computer fund. I have a donation link set up here: REPLACEMENT COMPUTER FUND for anyone who would care to offer a contribution toward me getting a system I can actually work on. Likewise, if anyone has any spare parts for a desktop that I could use to build a system capable of running WoW well, I'm happy for whatever I can get. I really need to build a system I can work on as the current arrangement is making this painful at best.

I apologize to all for the low profile on the forums and in e-mail, as well as the nUI web site... it's just about impossible to do using the phone and the laptop I've got isn't a lot better.

I will try to get into the forums some now that I have a working computer, be what it may... but I'm mostly head down and crushing to get nUI into shape for the MoP release.

Look for a first release any day now. Once I get the first one out the door, look for very frequent updates while I add missing features and step on whatever bugs turn up.

Woot happy dance. I was hoping it was nui6 you had been working on. Nui5 at least won't crash so people will have something to use while they wait.

It did, wait till you see the amount of changes I had to do. Rofl. Patch files for plus version and full beta for lite version in my addon list. I was dreading the day it was going live and you weren't back yet. I have commented every change I made though so look for 5.0.1 up to 5.0.4 etc and the plus version will show you what files had to be changed and why.

But if you were planning on leaving 5 off of the mists list then people will just have to keep using my patch version until 6 is ready.

By pure chance I have vacation time this week so I can test some stuff for you. Although not tonight as I'm going into work to finish some stuff off I didn't get to do last week.

Not yet but we have a midway check point that can delay emails for a while. Will keep checking until I fall asleep

Ok got the mail. Will take a look tomorrow once the server is back up. Don't forget 5.0.4 will also hit live tomorrow barring the new class and zones etc.

That requires the changes you've made, or will the existing nUI5 work with it?

If it needs your changes, can you ZIP up your working copy and send it to me? No way I can get that done before the patch tomorrow otherwise.

Ah... well... you are (obviously) authorized for it. The update is there in the download area, as well. Or I can email it to you if you want.

I don't seem to see a 5.0.0 version of nUI6. Only Version 6.04.03.00.01 (Alpha) version unless you forgot to change all the version numbers rofl.

Oh one of the fixes I didn't get round to doing was one that I didn't know about while grouped and haven't been grouped since. Group with someone and then do a reloadUI and it will mess up the unit frames. I was planning on looking at that once it hits live as I have 2 accounts and can test that stuff alot easier that way.

Are they pushing the MoP code to the live servers tomorrow? Is that what I'm understanding?

The nUI6 Alpha download is not here on the WoWI -- are you looking for it here or on the nUI site?

I looked on both but maybe not in the right place on the nUI site.

And yes, all but the actual expansion element will hit the live servers tomorrow. It will include the skill changes and profession changes probably and the pre expansion events. So, probably all but the Pandas and Pandaria and the new dungeons/zones themselves.

ok I really better head off to bed or I won't wake up in time in the morning rofl. Servers will probably be down when I get back from my short stint at work tomorrow but can do some code changes if you still need that to be done by the time you head off to bed later.

Hmm... you aren't someone who needs to subscribe. I already set you up for it gratis for all the help you provide to nUI. Not sure why you can't access it. We'll have to look into that when we have a minute. In the meantime, I'll just e-mail it to you.

There's the nUI newsletter which everyone gets, and the nUI e-mail updates which you have to subscribe for. You are on the first list, but never signed up for the e-mail updates (at least, according to the web site you have not).
