You could anchor the watchframe to the sidebar instead of the minimap.
Like
WatchFrame:ClearAllPoints()
WatchFrame:SetPoint("TOPRIGHT", <sidebarframename whatever it is>, "TOPLEFT")

I know it's not exact and such ... but to compare the costs of something it's as good as the other ways. And it counts the calls. :)

Nevermind. Solved the problem with using spellnames instead of spellIDs.
