I also use Mapster, and have never seen anything like that. It sounds like you have some other addon marking the locations of quests. See if the problem happens with
no addons enabled (just the default UI). I suspect it will not, and then you will have to enable your other addons one by one until the problem reappears. If you have a lot of addons, enable them in batches first, then narrow it down.
However, if you just go through your addons list and read the description of each addon, it should be pretty easy to figure out which one is doing that. It's not like it's going to be some hidden minor feature in an otherwise unrelated addon.
