I have used in the past grid outside of the infopanel but with the infopanel controlling its display.
The last year or so of healing I did was using mouseover macros which worked fine for me regardless of what unitframe addons I used.
I used healbot when I first started out before switching to grid and then mouseover.
I'm sure others will give other options.
