With a computer like that, you should never be dropping to 2 FPS, regardless of temperature.
It seems like Carbonite isn't failing safely in combat.
That being said, I can't think of any alternatives.
Hopefully Rythal can speak on behalf of Carbonite, because it is almost certainly not your computer.
