I used to use XPerl and didn't think it looked like crap.
There are plenty of people who love the look, and it is very easy to set up. I switched because I was trying new things and liked to try different layouts every so often (wanted more configuration). XPerl is lighter than PitBull, so if you like it then stick with it. If you want uber customization, then go with PitBull.
