The chat backround serves a more functional purpose than looks. helps make the chat easier to read

Or... You could set the outline property on the chat in order to make it a lot more readable
I like having chatfrading set to on and font-size at 16 or bigger so the text is readable. Not so much a fan of 90% transparent frames...
