It would indeed, but I do know of several programs that can do it for you.
If you're on a Mac (like me), I recommend
iStat. It's a Dash widget that can tell you all sorts of stuff.
If you're on Windows, I'd give
Speccy a look at. As I said, I'm on a Mac so I don't know much about it.
