New update simply doesn't function for me

I updated my carbonite addon yesterday, logged into WoW, and my maps were simply the WoW default... carbonite didn't seem to exist. I checked that it was installed, it was... I typed /carboniteaddon which should work to bring up the carbonite interface.. it didn't. My battleground maps were no where to be found, and while out in the main world, the main carbonite map and the minimap were no where to be seen.... the carbonite button that usually lives on the circumference of my Sexy Map also wasn't making an appearance...

.... So, I went back in Time Machine to mid-November and restored my older version of carbonite and now everything functions again...

I don't know what the problem might be, I'm not sure how to get an error code or message from an addon that can't be accessed in-game for whatever reason...

Anyone else having this problem?

I'm running the latest version of WoW as of December 3, 2011... I'm on a Mac, 10.7.2, latest version of OSX.

I haven't ever had a problem like this with the addon...

Any suggestions?

Sounds like it didn't load. I'll bet you put the enclosing folder ("Carbonite 4.whatever") in the add ons folder, rather than the four individual Carbonite folders ("Carbonite", "CarboniteNodes", "CarboniteTransfer", "CarboniteItems"). Or perhaps you got a bum download.

First thing I do when I have these problems is to check that I have the right folder(s) in the add-on folder, and that the folder(s) have a <addonname>.toc and a <addonname>.lua file at their top level. Second thing I do is disable all the other add ons (except BugGrabber and !BugSack) and see if it loads. Third thing is download the latest version of the add-on again and start over.

No, I unzip the zip file, which produces a folder that has 4 folders in it... i drill down to those four, highlight them all, drag them to my WoW folder > interface > addons and drop them in.... get a dialog box that asks me if I want to replace those already there, which I click on 'apply to all' and overwrite the existing folders....

That's how ya do it, right?

Since you are having issues, I would recommend deleting the current Carbonite folders rather than overwriting them. We've all seen some odd behavior from overwriting in the past.

Another more severe step is to move and/or delete the Carbonite.lua in the WTF folder. The one's in there hold all of the addons settings for all of your toons.

So, sometimes overwriting causes issue, and sometimes the Carbonite.lua file in the WTF folder suddenly becomes corrupted.

In addition, make sure that "Load out of Date" in the Blizz addon screen is checked off. Ive had mine become unchecked twice or thrice in the past week.
