I'm in the middle of conducting a research project over discourse communities, My discourse community is WoW specifically the distinguishing differences between Alliance and Horde as their own discourse.
I am required to interview a large group of people. So if you have a moment and could answer some general opinionated and factual questions your time would be greatly appreciated.

Questing mixed in with Randoms via Looking for Group functionality. Before this function it was questing almost exclusively for me.

11)How often do you use the auction house?
Once a week on the weekends.

most of the time via chatting in game. Sometimes TeamSpeak / Ventrillo

Several hundred at least, 5 or so I have met outside of the game.

15) What is your favorite thing about World of Warcraft?
I like questing an interacting with people - helping them out where I can.

16) What is your least favorite thing about World of Warcraft?
People who cannot take criticism - constructive or otherwise.

17) What made you start Playing?
A friend of mine.

No idea. I do not subscribe to this method of gauging the skill of a player.

I started in December 2006, and have been playing on and off since.

2) What is you affiliated side? Alliance or Horde?
I like to think of myself as a Horde player, but I play both sides.

My current "main", if you can call it that, is an Orc Shaman.

80, along with 6 other characters at 80.

5) What is your talent Spec?
Main spec Resto, offspec Elemental

6) What is your favorite dungeon to run?
Hmm, this is a hard one. I enjoy most of them, and it all varies by the group. Typically, I guess I'd go with Violet Hold.

7) What realm type do you play on?
PVE

8) Are you in a guild?
I'm in several, actually. <Tribe> of Aerie Peak, <Grounding Totem> of Kirin Tor, <Deindividuation> of Aerie Peak, <Vindictus> of Azjol-Nerub, and <String of Aces> of Aerie Peak.

9) Do you have a specific group you generally play with? (doesn't have to be affiliated with your guild.)
Not currently. I used to play and hang around a bunch of my clan members, but most of us just sort of went our own ways. Even though most of us might not play together, many of us still stick around in a private voice chat server regardless of what server/faction, or even game we're playing.

10) What is your preferred way of leveling? (eg. Questing, Grinding, Dungeons, Raids, Battlegrounds, etc.)
I like to get by with a mix of questing, dungeons, and the occasional BG toss in now and then to keep things from getting stale.

11)How often do you use the auction house?
Daily. =)

12) How many hours a week do you generally play?
Between 3 and 20+

I use TeamSpeak most frequently. I'm almost always in TS whenever I'm gaming.

14) How many people have you met in game (Rough estimate.)
Probably a good 100 or so people. Many have come and gone over the couple years I've been playing.

15) What is your favorite thing about World of Warcraft?
There really is no one favorite thing. There's many great things I like. It's a very alt-friendly game, easy to get by and cash in, competitive at times, and great for just laying back and relaxing doing dailies.

16) What is your least favorite thing about World of Warcraft?
At times, things get a bit repetitive, but that's to be expected after you've done many aspects of the game several times over.

17) What made you start Playing?
A few friends have been playing since 2004 or 2005, and I always wanted to join them. Took me almost 2 years, and by the time I started, they quit.

18) What is your current gear score?
Around 4600 give or take. Really not that important.

19) What is your favorite event in game? (Eg. Brew Fest, Love is in the air, Day of the Dead etc.)
It's a tossup between Brewfest, Hallow's End, and Midsummer Fire Festival.

20) How old are you in reality? (You can choose to answer or not)
I'm in my early-mid 20s.

Main is dual-specced for Protection and Retribution
Priest is Holy/Shadow, Shaman is Enhancement/Restoration

Not really

Every few days.

Too Many? Probably about 10-15.

I use Ventrilo and guildchat to speak with my guild. For those good friends who aren't in my guild, we have a custom channel that we all hang out in.

In-game? God only knows. Over the last 5 years, I've been in 7 guilds that were 50+ people. My last 3 guilds all had in excess of 100 members.

15) What is your favorite thing about World of Warcraft?
Not really sure, actually.

16) What is your least favorite thing about World of Warcraft?
Two words. Trade. Chat.

17) What made you start Playing?
A large number of RL friends were playing as well.

Somewhere around 4800 or so.

Hallow's Eve, because it's a celebration of my birthday.

Communicate through text based in game more frequently than voice chat, custom channels and whisper

My OH got the game at release and let me play, I liked it so I got a copy myself so that we could play together

1) How long have you been playing World of Warcraft?

Almost 4 years, February of 2007.

2) What is you affiliated side? Alliance or Horde?

I was Alliance for about a year, then I went to the Horde for 2 years, then came back to Alliance over a year ago. I plan to stay Alliance as the Horde are kinda dead on my server.

3) What race and class are you?

I change mains probably twice per expansion pack. Maybe even three times, like I did in Wrath. If you want me to ellaborate... My first char was a Draenei Paladin which is now a Human. Then I rolled a Tauren Druid which was my main for a good 10 months or so. While I leveled the Druid I leveled an Undead Rogue. Then I rerolled a Troll Mage. Then I switched to my paladin again, but turned into a Human Paladin. I then changed the Mage and Rogue into a Human and Dwarf (all female chars btw) respectively. THEN I rolled a Priest, named Peel which was a Night Elf, which is now currently an Undead, which I will make a Gnome in Cataclysm...THEN I rolled a DK quietly which is still not lv 80. She is lv 76.

TL;DR - Right now, my mains are a Gnome Mage and a Dwarf Rogue.

4) What is your level?

I have 5 level 80s, and my DK is soon to be 80 as well.

5) What is your talent Spec?

My mage is Arcane mainly and offspec Fire. My Rogue was Assasination in BC, now Combat, but going back to Assasination in Cataclysm.

6) What is your favorite dungeon to run?

My favorite Dungeon would probably have to be ... Magisters Terrace! My favorite Raid was probably Karazhan or Serpent Shrine Cavern.

7) What realm type do you play on?

Hydraxis.

8) Are you in a guild?

Yes. I am in Kaizen.

9) Do you have a specific group you generally play with? (doesn't have to be affiliated with your guild.)

Generally I try to run with people I know and that I know they are good if it is a pug. If it's guild wise, no, I don't specifically run with people. My guild doesn't have clique's thank god.

A mix of Questing and Dungeons.

I use it when I need something.. I don't have a lot of gold.. And I don't play AH.

15-30 or maybe more. Gets less the more I've been playing, but I still enjoy it. Note I play more hours than average as I'm unemployed.

I type generally ingame. I don't like to get too close to people, never a good thing. Not that it's bad in general, just not for me. I talk in Ventrilo sometimes, but that is rarely.

I've probably met over hundreds of people.

15) What is your favorite thing about World of Warcraft?

I love that I can play at my own pace and I don't need to follow a time limit, or I like how I can control my own char, like its my own self. I like World of Warcraft because it's not just a game for me. It's apart of my life, I know that sounds dorky, but that is how I feel about it. If it were to ever die or I would become bored and not play no more, I would still think about it and how it has affected my life as much as it has.

16) What is your least favorite thing about World of Warcraft?

I love raiding but I hate it due to my time constraints and me not being able to play or allot time to play at that time.

17) What made you start Playing?

I saw the South Park episode - Make Love not Warcraft so I got the trial to check out the hype. I'm a huge South Park fan.

18) What is your current gear score?

My GearScore is 1337. lol In all realness, my Priest is 5718, my Rogue is also 5712, and my Mage is 5740 I think. I'm guessing mainly, but it's a very close estimate.

19) What is your favorite event in game? (Eg. Brew Fest, Love is in the air, Day of the Dead etc.)

My favorite ingame events are the Pre-Expansion world events. But if I have to pick a Holiday... Which I hate them all because I'm not an achievement kind of person lol I like Christmas.

Not really... I've been making interfaces for about 3 years now or less. I am 26 years old (you should add what age we are IRL for this quiz, sounds appropriate to me), I am a mother, I like to draw in real life, play the guitar, I like movies, South Park, I love to cook if I have the proper ingredients, and I'm a woman! NO WAY!

I didn't know if asking the age of the person would be appropriate... Though adding it wouldn't hut I suppose.. Thank you for your feed back.. I am also a woman.. so I can relate to cooking, drawing, anime, south park, family guy, I also draw and I'm a design and Psychology major.(I know it's right and left field) My favorite thing is when I get on voice chat with people for the first time and they figure out I'm a woman.. Honestly, I prefer to run solo.....unless I need help to take down a quest target, then I'll call in reinforcements from my guild(s). However, over the years I have made a few friends, and will play with them if/when they are on

My guild (probably like many out there) has a Ventrilo server, but I normally use the standard text-based communication

If by 'met' you mean in real life, none. If you mean become friends with (add to friends list in-game/added on facebook/etc), only a select few

15) What is your favorite thing about World of Warcraft?

Being able to do my own thing when I want, unlike some of the MMOs out there that force you to group in order to pretty much play the game. Sure, playing alone kinda defeats the concept of MMORPGs in some people's eyes, but I'm a huge RPG fan and like to take time to learn about the lore and story behind the game; but most people I've grouped with in the past just play for the bragging rights that come with high end gear and various other achievements

16) What is your least favorite thing about World of Warcraft?

The creation/inception of Gearscore ratings! This is nothing but a way to DISCRIMINATE against other players! You are required to have a certain gearscore to be able to even THINK about being able to get in to some guilds or raids!

According to payment history, on my 28th month. Started in September of '08 with a couple of breaks.

Started Alliance, most recent break was from the monday just before 3.2 (ToC) and came back at the release of the final wing of ICC. Since then I;ve been leveling Horde.

Altoholic, today I might be a tauren warrior, tomorrow a Blood elf Priest, next week a troll mage.

6 80s, 2 70s, others

DPS in BC, Tank in LK, either heals or dps again in cata

Battlegrounds and dungeons... Working on a toon where I vowed to complete 0 quests, so these help out with the long haul ahead

A lot more recently, my questless toon has a lot of time to mine and skin, so I got an AH addon to help post my reagents at current prices

I'm a procrastinator, so who doesnt like a good time sink that isnt paint drying on the wall?

The fact that you can see this Lich King's mount, when his name is Invincible... I mean c'mon

Altoholic... i stopped participating long ago... frustrating how one toon will have my pumpkin pet, but no one else. The toon i dont play much anymore has my spirit of competiton too...
