AddOn load

If I recall, there was an addon that would stop the spam when you first logged on...the 'this addon is loaded' spam, but for the life of me I can no remember what it was. Any ideas?

Only one I know of is StopTheSpam. May need some tweaks to get it working (check it's comments).

Funny you should mention StopTheSpam. I came here today looking for an alternative. While the addon still works, it does not stop all addon spam. I went so far as to edit each addon that was causing the loading spam, but after I update em I have to re-edit.

I wish someone would revive the addon.

Thanks, all. I just took Petrahs advice, and commented out the message in each add on. I don't use an auto updater, anyhow, so this will fix it for me, in the meantime~

A better long-term solution might be to bring up the issue with the individual addon authors. Politely explain that you don't need a message telling you the addon is loaded, and point out how annoying it is to get 10, 20, or more lines like this in your chat frame every time you log in.

I'd guess that many authors don't add this crap on purpose, but have just copy/pasted the base of their addon from another addon or from some tutorial. Most of those who did add it on purpose didn't really think about it, but just did what they'd seen other addons doing. Once you point out how it adds up when you have many addons doing the same thing, some authors will just remove it.

If an author is hesitant to remove the message entirely, suggest they only show once after the addon is first installed, and then once after each update. This can be accomplished with a simple flag in the addon's saved variables.

Seems like the best solution for right now. Never know though... someone may see this and decide to revive StopTheSpam (one can only hope! ).
