Help I can't find any carbonite for version 3.3.5a or earlier

Thats right ^^ and the oldest version here and on curse is for 4.03 but that is the encoded version. First opensource release was 5.05 and since then till now its maintained community. There is also version for Classic.

First version of Carbonite was for 3.3.5a there was no version before WoTLK. Search in google u should find it on other sites.
