Character specific settings

I know there are a few posts on this already but i'm not finding any solutions, not to my specific problem anyway.

I would like to have one character to have the minimap integrated into carbonite and one character not, can someone please tell me if this is possible?

I have tried resetting the settings on one character and setting it up the way I want, but when I go to another character it seems to have applied the settings (or uses the same settings) as the one I reset!
