Nui+ and mac

okay so i have downloaded nui+ and i have put the folder/s in the correct spot in my wow interface/addon folder but when i log onto wow and look in the addon part nui doesnt show up and doesnt show up when i log into my characters either. does it work with macs or not? i cant find something to tell me if its just for windows or if it works for macs too. i dont know what to do...ive never had problems with addons not working when i put them in the correct place.

If you can run WoW, then you can run any addon. Addons are not OS dependent, they are WoW dependent.

Would you mind posting the path to nUI.toc? I know you said you installed it into the correct place, but it's just something to check to help us help you

wow on macs

I disagree that if you can run wow you can run any addon - its true that they are platform independant. But Macs and Windows are quite different - one is a heavy memory user, the other heavy on cpu - and wow behaves very differently on each. In general I find WoW on Mac runs very slow - much lower (50%) fps on the same computer, and consequently the impact of high memory usage addons such as nui+ (and others I might add - lightheaded is a guilty party) is quite significant.

Om my dual boot setup I found that nui+ just lowered the fps far too much (7 or lower) so I have sadly removed nui+ on the Mac side.

That, however, would have nothing to do with whether or not WoW appears in the list of available addons on a Mac.

The correct installation of nUI would be in your [ World of Warcraft > Interface > AddOns ] directory. After it has been installed, you should see a directory structure that looks something like this...

World of Warcraft > Interface > AddOns > nUI
World of Warcraft > Interface > AddOns > nUI > Bars
World of Warcraft > Interface > AddOns > nUI > HUD
World of Warcraft > Interface > AddOns > nUI > Integration
World of Warcraft > Interface > AddOns > nUI > Layouts
World of Warcraft > Interface > AddOns > nUI > Layouts > Default
World of Warcraft > Interface > AddOns > nUI > Main

etc. etc. etc.

Unhappy well...

well just like every other addon i download i have to manually install it because curse doesnt work for me and this doesnt use curse so its the same way of install. i open up the folder that was downloaded, then in a seperate window i open up wow>interface>addon and then select everything from the downloaded file and drag and drop it into my addon file. normally it should show up in my addon page in wow but it doesn't. thats why i was wondering if it would work for mac because i didnt know if the files were in a version mac could read or something....i have those problems with a ton of other things.
its just like wow isn't reading the files and uploading them. ive tried everything i know to make it work because i sometimes have this problem with other addons but eventually they show up...ive been doing this for hours and it just wont show up. its like a ninja or something.

If you open the download file (nUI_5.06.06_Plus.zip) and look inside it, you should only see 1 entry "nUI" -- copy that one folder into [ World of Warcraft > Interface > AddOns ]

Also note that you have to completely exit WoW and re-enter before WoW will see a new addon. It only reads your addon folder when you first start the program.

I used to run WoW on a Mac Mini. Fps was often so bad that I couldn't really do anything. Similar to my first Wow Mac, which was a G4 tower. I had few problems in the starting area, but then some friends of mine wanted me to join them in Loch Modan. I didn't know how to get there, so one offered to meet me in Menethil and escort me to LM. However, after the second or third time I got jumped by a croc on the road, and my computer froze up, only unfreezing after I died, I gave up and went back to Teldrassil.

Anyway, now I have a (last generation, not the latest) iMac, and I have very few lag/latency/fps problems. Usually I get upwards of 60 fps, except in Dalaran, where it sometimes drops as low as 30. It drops in 25 mans too, but not as much, usually. Sometimes I get as high as 90 fps.

If you can see the addon listed in the addons screen in WoW (before you log all the way in to the game), and it's not red, then you should see it in game. If you can't see it at the login screen, it's probably in the wrong place. If it's not (/Applications/World of Warcraft/Interface/AddOns is the right place), then perhaps it's a permissions problem (the addons folder, and the addon folders in it, should be read/write).

grr

yes i know i have to completely have the program shut down and i do. when i download the nui+ files it comes up on my computer in a folder. within that folder are other files and folders. i dragged the downloaded nui folder into the addon under wow interface just like i do with all the other addons i have. it still doesnt show up. im just giving up on using it because i've tried everything. maybe one of my other addons is preventing it?!? who knows...xperl doesnt override it or something does it? i think im just gunna try taking out all my addons and see what happens. if it doesnt work im not trying again this is just too annoying

While xperl would be pretty redundant it shouldn't be causing nUI to not appear in the list.

Have you downloaded addons within the last week in exactly the same folder in exactly the same way and they work fine ?

I can understand it can be very frustrating. When I first did the switch to Vista and WoW decided to move everything and I didn't realise at the time I couldn't fathom why my addons didn't work. Understandably the Mac is a different kettle of fish which I have never used so cannot help you with that side of things.

However, just on the offchance the download set up the folders wrong can you confirm the folder ( feel free to remove personalised folder names ) that nUI.toc is in.

EG. On my Windows 7 computer I have mine at :
D:\WoW BackUp 091022\World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\nUI\

Mainly because when I installed Windows 7 I created a backup folder to save downloading the whole lot again I just haven't moved the folder.

And here's a picture of the contents of the folder. Hopefully this helps you somewhat *crosses fingers*.

continually having to title is pointless

no i havent downloaded any new addons in the same way. i normally use wowmatrix because it makes it easy but i cant with this. before i used wow matrix however, i had to download addons in the same way and into the same folder from curse.com since the curse client didnt work.
i attached 2 photos since i couldn't copy paste them for some reason... one shows the file in my addon file amongst the other ones and on the left hand side of my screen it also shows the extension to how u get to the nui folder. the other one is the contents of the nui folder.
still not working tho and i took out all my addons and just left that one and nothing showed up at all for addons in wow.

Someone's gotta say it...

But I thought with Macs stuff "just worked"

/cackle

I can't wait for my boss to get a new macbook so i can install Win 7 on it and take it to the Apple store and ask the geniuses questions about making it work.

See what they say. /evil grin

Keeping Addons updated on a Mac without using the lazy man's solution (aka Curse client or similar).

Initial:
Step 1: Add all the addons you use to your WowInterface favorites list. If you have addons not available here, make a note of them, and where they're available.
Step 2: create a folder called "Addons for Wow" in your downloads folder
Step 3: Add a link to your /Applications/World of Warcraft/Interface/AddOns folder to your Places menu (on any finder window).
Step 4: download all your addons.
Step 5: open a finder window on your downloads folder
Step 6: drag all the addon zips to your Addons for Wow folder
Step 7: open your Addons for Wow folder
For each addon:
Step 8: double-click the zip file, which unpacks the addon
Step 9: drag the addon folder(s) (watch out for addons with multiple folders - don't just drag the enclosing folder!) to the "Addons" link

Updating:

Periodically (once a week or so, maybe) check your favorites list here to see if anything's been updated. If so, download it and follow steps 5 thru 9 above. Don't forget to check non-WowInterface addons, too!

The initial set up took me maybe half an hour. Updating takes me no more than about five minutes.

Do not, under any circumstances, use WowMatrix.

I currently use about 40 addons, which results in about 170 folders in my addons folder.
