404 error after logging in

For the last few days, when I click “Login” it redirects me to a secure login page ( https://secure.wowinterface.com/login.php ) instead of the normal login page. After I log in, it redirects me https://secure.wowinterface.com/forums/index.php, which comes back as a 404 error page. I have to manually click back to the regular non-secure site and refresh the page to get it to recognize that I’m logged in. I haven’t changed any settings in my browser, firewall, or computer, so it must be something on your end.

Thanks for the heads up.

What browser are you using? When I login it correctly redirects me back to http://. Do you have something set under "Default Home Page" under your options? http://www.wowinterface.com/forums/p...do=editoptions

Hi Dolby,

I’m using Opera 10.63. On the settings page you linked, the “Default Home Page” option appeared to be unset, but I tried setting it to each choice, saving, logging out, and logging back in, and got the 404 error page each time.

Since you said it was working fine for you, I tried a few other things and tracked it down to my security software stripping out HTTP referer headers. If I turn off that feature then I can log in without getting the 404 error page. I guess I can add an exception for wowinterface.com, but it seems like logging in shouldn’t fail if it can’t tell which page I was looking at before.

Since you said it redirects you to https://secure.wowinterface.com/forums/index.php I'll make a nice page with a link to click to go back to http: since I'm sure your security software would ignore another redirect there.

The old login system redirected me after logging in, and was never a problem. The only problem now is that the redirection is sending me to a page that doesn’t exist.

I'm directing you to a page that exists your security is choosing to ignore the http switch. Only thing I can think of is to put a page there and have you click on the http link.

What security software are you using? I have 5 different ones on each computer and don't encounter this so I'd like to read up on what your using.

The old system also submitted your password in a way it could be sniffed.

For removing referer headers, I’m just using the security features built into the Opera browser.

Also, it works fine if I add an exception for wowinterface.com, so there must be something different going on when there’s referer data versus when there isn’t.

Sorry, forgot to mention I’m still on Windows XP.

The option is under Preferences » Advanced tab » Network » uncheck “Send referrer information”.
