In-game Video/Media Player Addon

An in-game video/media player addon: is there such a thing?

I remember a while back when I was playing Dark Age of Camelot there was an XML interface addon for that game which made a resizeable portion of the screen transparent so that you could see what was going on behind the game. One would be able to move a preferred media player into that position and watch a DVD or other video.

Here is a screenshot:

I would love to be able to watch a movie while grinding! I would try to make one myself except not knowing LUA leaves me with no place to start. :\

Hopefully this will inspire someone to make one!

That screenshot is only a demonstration of the features of the UI. Anyone with any bit of common sense could see that. Dark Age of Camelot is in fact more along the lines 99% gameplay and 1% UI, as is World of Warcraft. The UI is merely a luxury.

Doing some things in game are more boring than others. PvP is fun, I wouldn't want to watch a movie then. But farming mobs for primals is incredibly boring. I'd like to have a movie to watch.

Depending on your monitor size, you could try playing in windowed mode and resizing the game window so that you could put a small media player window where you want to watch the movie at.

Of course.... then you have the rest of the empty space as well.

Windowed mode maximized with a media player set to always on top seems to work fine for now, however, sometimes it gets in the way. I'd rather not spend upwards of $180 for a new monitor though. :\

Well anyone with common sense would just go buy a second monitor and stop making smart-assed remarks to people commenting on their threads.

I don't feel like dropping the $200 for another monitor, my budget is tight as I am in school right now.

I was hoping that individuals on this forum would offer helpful information or keep their mouth shut. He is guilty of the same smart assed remarks, I merely offered one in return.

I didn't mean my comment in a way against you, I was just commenting on the game itself, not your client alone, I've never played, but your "reply" was meant to be mean to me.

But whatever, no drama here, I'll try to look around for a mod for ya, but I can't really promise anything..I've never heard of this anywhere.. o-o

I think there was an addon in CT_Mod that allowed you to make a rectangle of your UI "see-through" so you could have your movie running behind with WoW on the foreground. Did I dream that?
And I think I've already posted an answer about the very same thing like 1 or 2 days ago, which feels strange as I don't remember what the question was...
Do I need sleep? ://

Maybe you do need sleep!

I have not seen this in CT_Mod, but I have not fully explored all of its capabilities. If this is so, then that is exactly what I am looking for. However, for now I'm using VLC on Always On Top mode with WoW on windowed-maximized. It uses a bit more room on the screen than I'd like it to, but it's better than nothing.

Most likely what you've got there is a TV tuner card / driver that puts the video directly into the framebuffer (to avoid the latency of running it through the main bus, CPU and OS). It's keyed to look for a particular color value in what the OS thinks it's putting on screen and replace those pixels with the TV video input.

If that's the case, you could make an equivalent WoW mod if you knew what the specific color value was -- just make a frame and fill it with that color. You can probably find out what the magic color is by opening the DAoC mod without the TV software running and using an app that can tell you what RGB value is under the cursor.

I did have a TV Tuner card installed at the time, but I don't think that had anything to do with it working. Here is the XML which doesn't look like it will tell you anything.

You might like this link:

I wonder if there was really something in CT_Mod to do that or not

Edit: Sorry about linking to another download site, I couldn't find it here :/

That's pretty much exactly what Gazmik described and exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!

Now the trick will be figuring out how to get it to work!

The reason I was not able to use any of the other solutions such as WMC or VLC operating in always on top mode on top of a maximized windowed mode is because running WoW in that mode would cause my drivers to stop responding.

Thanks again to everyone!
