A very simple pet buff mod request

I'm not looking to change the unit frames as I find the default ones fairly intuitive. My only complaint about them is that the only way to see your pet's buffs (I'm a hunter) is to target your pet.

I'm not a programmer, but would it be hard to write a small mod to add pet buffs under the the default screen? would be nice to make sure he is getting BoM instead of BoW and tell when he's done eating, etc.

I've tried XPerl and Perl Classic, both of which have this feature, but they are just enough different from the standard ones I'm familiar with to cause me problems.
