Maps are Hard to See (Dim)

I've played with all of the transparency sliders, but try as I might, I just can't get a crisp, detailed map view. My maps generally end up looking like they have an old time yellow/sepia film over them. Even when I get the sliders all set to a point where I can see the map clearly, it reverts back to crap befor too long.

I really like Carbonite, and even though I think Quest Helper is better for just Quests, Carbonite is a much better rounded add-on, and is adequate enough for quests.

A screenshot would be very useful here, and may generate more helpful replies. On another note, I strongly disagree that Quest Helper is better for quests -- I use and enable Carbonite only for questing, and find it far superior for the task than Quest Helper ever was.
