Just a headsup that I still get low framerate in 25 man raids. Went back down as low as 4fps and the scary thing was that I was healing Naxx 25. But I have heard recently that there are problems again on the instance servers.

Now, we know that our server's instance server was replaced as we now move to one in a zone 2hrs earlier so we have to remember that otherwise we may end up playing too long. Thankfully nUI has the local time feature which I have switched on to help me being 6hrs past the server time. But I digress. Some other people in the raid were similarly afflicted and they do not use nUI.

Yeah -- I think we're fighting a war on two fronts... I am absolutely 100% certain that nUI is causing FPS drops still. I'm also 100% certain that there are some serious Bliz bugs that are causing serious FPS drops in 25 man raids (any 25 man raid)

I can measure the big drops using the default UI, so I *know* they are there. Add nUI's impact to that, and it becomes a real problem. I'm doing everything I can to reduce nUI's impact, but the key is for Bliz to fix the 25 man instance problem.

There are some clues to where the issues seem to be... use the default UI and turn on any bar mod or unit frame mod and your FPS will get hammered for 15fps or so, give or take. I'm not sure why that is, but it really is pretty much *any* bar mod or unit frame mod that causes that to happen. Some more than others.

Will turning off the animation for nUI's unit frames help any?

It doesn't seem to make much of an impact that I can see. It may on some systems.

I picked up a copy of http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/info13555-InterfaceUsage.html which was brought to my attention by a nUI used (thank you Corey) and that confirmed what I pretty much already knew -- nUI_UnitAura and nUI_UnitSpec are hammering the system in raids with nUI_UnitAura being the worst of the two. So, I'm going to try and get nUI_UnitAura rewritten this weekend and, if possible, will tackle nUI_UnitSpec as well. Between the two of them, I would expect to see a non-trivial improvement in frame rates in nUI, especially in 25 and 40 man raids.

I have noticed that I have huge FPS issues even in 10 man raids and a lot lately in just 5 man instances/heroics. I have done a fresh install of nUI several times and have yet to be able to track down my issues to any single addon that I use along with nUI. My computer specs are fairly decent (not sucky by any standards yet not uber like some). I absolutely love and swear by nUI but the raiding/instancing with it are just killing me. For the first time ever the FPS drop actually prevented me from healing/keeping alive our tank (/sadface). Not sure what else to do at this point.

This is with the current 5.03.11 ??

o.O

When you do the fresh install, are you cleaning out your WTF, too, or just reinstalling nUI's distribution in the Interface/AddOns folder?

Yes with +11, I update every time I see a new version. I have not yet done a fresh install with the 11 version, but am planning on that this weekend.

When doing a fresh install, I rename my interface folder and my wtf folder. Then I completely delete the cache folder. Then I install just nUI and load and it seems to work ok for a little bit but is (of course) laggy in Dalaran. I try to do the in dal by the bank to create as much load as possible without actually doing anything without my other addons. I don't usually notice any real difference as I ad my addons. But once I get into a raid (mainly naxx) my fps spikes all over the place.

I'll look into it -- just realize that a *lot* of people are seeing serious FPS spikes in Naxx even with the default UI.

Yeah, I'm not really looking for help to eliminate it, but seeing as how I hear that some don't really drop that low I was hoping that maybe, just maybe, I could find a way around the 1-4 fps rates I've been seeing.

What happens if you switch to the solo player mode unit panel while in the raid?

I found the only way to keep a reasonable framerate in Naxx was to get to 1 player mode in the UF and rely on my grid/clique for my healing interface. Trying to run even party had an impact.

Ah that would be interesting to try out. During combat I don't necessarily use the unit frames. When healing I use healbot and when decursing I use decursive. The Unit Frames are just there for targeting but as they keep telling me .. I just need to get to grips with using tab to target )

Haven't tried that yet. I use healbot and decursive so I might try that and see if it makes any difference.

Besides all the updates done on the development version what is the difference between that and Lite version? Is it possible to get a version of like a Lite Plus where you can get one that limits it down to 10 man raid size?

Also Scott what are the addon's that you have verified to have little impact on NuI for raiding? My FPS drops to 6 to 9 in all 25 man raids when ever boss encounters start.

It's not possible to get a "Lite Plus" so to speak... sorry.

However, the way nUI's panels work, when you switch to a given panel, it disables all unit frames in the hidden panels. So... if you switch to the 10 man raid panel, it's as though the 40 man panel didn't exist. In other words, there would be no benefit to having a version that didn't include the bigger panels.

As for which mods do and don't impact nUI... there are no mods I know of that actually directly impact nUI itself. The combination of any two mods may have some impact on the system, but that is a variable far too complex to measure and in many cases depends more on your own system and network connection than anything else.

As far as the differences between the development and release, the biggest difference right now is that I have done a lot of optimization work in the development version that it not present in the release. If you're not running the development version, that may well be part of your frame rate problem. Even though the release version of nUI lite does not contain raid panels, it is still far more expensive in terms of its memory usage and CPU usage and the current development version. The same is true of the release version of nUI+ -- it is *far* more expensive than the development version.

Scott, I did try this method in OS (both 10 and 25) and it definitely worked. I had left it on the full raid frames at first and was noticing fluctuations before we even started to clear the trash. So I remembered what you had said and clicked my way through back to just 'player' setting. I hit my garbage dump macro and voila I had very minimal fps drops all the way through. The only part of these runs that was still a bit buggy was the final boss during the lava flows, but not to the point where I couldn't get to the safe spot. So eliminating the extra raid frames from the panel definitely helps this a lot. I still have been too lazy to do a clean install yet again with the .11 version (yeah, yeah I know, I need to take example from you, but hitting bonfires has just been too much more exciting than downloading addons galore.), but I still plan to do that.

I will keep you posted as I know more.

I kind of figured that switching off the raid frames would fix it. I think most of the problem at this point centers around nUI_UnitAura and then nUI_UnitSpec. I'm not sure how much of it is nUI_UnitRaidSort but all three of them grow exponentially in CPU load as the raid size increases.

Hopefully the re-write of those modules will solve the problem.

Thanks for getting back to me and confirming my suspicion on this.

Mind sharing this macro as I'd like to try this as I'm being hit by the Low FPS problem and I do not do Raids/Dungeons at this stage as I'm still on Dial-up (10 days till BroadBand ) and get the massive hit every 5-6 minutes.

Cheers

Good idea! Todd, you may even be able to upload it and get credit as an addon author, though I'm not sure what the limitations are on that.
