Minimap events?

I'd like to make (or if it exists, download) an addon that will play a sound when a new item shows up on the minimap (similar to the click-sound used sometimes for the chat-frame). By 'item' i mean a herb/treasure/mine or similar 'mouseoverable' resource.

Are there any suitable events to capture this?

No, the "dots" on the minimap are rendered by the graphical engine itself and the UI doesn't have any knowledge of them except when you mouse over them and the GameTooltip object is used to display info on them.
